Abstract

1,219,935. Dispersing liquids by gaseous pressure. SAMUEL TAYLOR PTY. Ltd. April 29, 1968 [May 2, 1967], No.20111/68. Heading F1R. A closure for an aerosol or like pressurized container having a neck and mouth comprises a cap placed on the mouth and over the neck, a substantially cylindrical element connected with the cap and extending into the neck with clearance from the interior wall of the neck, and a ring of elastically deformable material elastically and displaceably fitted over the circumference of the substantially cylindrical element, the ring being an interference fit within the neck and having a part of its surface exposed to the pressure prevailing within the container to assist the sealing effect. The cap 5 may be retained on the neck 10 of the container by friction or by a clip or, as shown, by crimping the free edge 28 over the end portion of the neck. The valve chamber 14 of the aerosol container is held by an annular flange 26 depending from the cap 5, a gasket 18 being interposed between the valve chamber and the cap. A sealing ring 21<SP>111</SP> of rubber or the like is forced by the pressure within the container into sealing engagement with an annular shoulder 27 and the inner wall of the neck 10. Instead of being slipped over the tapered outer surface of the annular flange as shown, the sealing ring may be slipped over the valve chamber 14 below the annular flange. In this case the interior pressure forces the sealing ring into sealing engagement with the free end of the annular flange, and the sealing ring may be of elliptical, rectangular or tear-drop cross-section. In the latter case, the tapering part of the cross-section extends into a tapering space between the valve chamber and the free end of the annular flange.
