Abstract
Papermaking machine, comprising a material inlet box, characterized in that it includes a material head that extends across the width of the material inlet box, a plurality of inclined, horizontally spaced riser tubes vertically, relatively narrow, communicating respectively at their upper and lower ends with the material inlet box and with the head, the inlet tubes in each of the groups being uniformly spaced and dimensioned, to provide a substantially uniform flow of material from each of the groups of riser pipes towards the material inlet box through its entire width, wall means that internally divide the head into a plurality of longitudinally extending compartments, each of which communicates with a group different from riser pipes, and means to selectively and individually block the flow of ma through the compartments to reduce the total flow of material into the material inlet box while maintaining a substantially constant flow of material through the open compartments and riser pipes with which these communicate.
