Abstract

A double twist spindle having a hollow shaft 9 which supports a yarn package 17 and has a yarn tensioning means 18 at its inlet, is provided with a continuous conduit 10 (consisting of portions 11-14) rotating with the rotor 1, the conduit receiving yarn fed from the package via the inlet to the shaft and the interior of the shaft and the conduit leading yarn onto a take up member 15 carried by the rotor. The yarn describes an arc of between a quarter of a turn and one turn about member 15 before passing up through guide 19. Rotation of the rotor causes a negative pressure to be produced in the conduit. Preferably the downstream portion of the conduit is constituted by one of a plurality of tubes disposed at equi-angular intervals around the spindle. A desired suction effect may be produced by blocking one or more of the tubes. The tensioning means 18 may be of the ball or magnetic type. The stator 5 carrying the shaft 9 is prevented from rotating by magnets 7, 8.
