Abstract
The plunger 11 of a pressure casting machine is initially moved by hydraulic pressure fed, via inlet 12, to a pressure chamber 9 of a cylinder 10 and then, in a second stage, the plunger 11 is rapidly accelerated by opening a check valve 5 and allowing the stored pressure energy of an oil-filled, gas pressurized accumulator 1 to act through large cross-section, low flow resistant passages 6, 7 on the said plunger 11. The accumulator 1 is arranged vertically with the valve 5 on its top pressure oil side 2. The valve 5 comprises a movable element 15 spring biased on to a seat 18. An electromagnetic reversible valve 22 is operated to allow the pressure in a chamber 28 of the valve 5 to drop to atmospheric so that the element 15 can be moved against the spring 17 by the pressure in the chamber 9 fed via the inlet 12. The opening of the valve 5 is adjustable by the positioning of a spindle 19.
