Abstract

Radio active contamination is removed from metal parts, e.g. brass, bronze, carbon steel or stainless steel cooling systems of nuclear reactors, with an aqueous solution of Cg. 1 1., oxalic acid 20 to 30, dibasic ammonium citrate 40 to 60, ferric sulphate or nitrate 1.7 to 2.4, diethyl thiourea 0.8 to 1.2 where the ratio of oxalic acid to dibasic ammonium citrate is not greater than 1: 2. The metal may be first treated with a hot aqueous, alkaline potassium permanganate solution.
