Abstract
An ink-ribbon mechanism, which is mounted on a movable carriage for feeding of an ink ribbon 21 capable of receiving up to six overstrikes and for feeding of the ink ribbon at constant increments irrespective of the dia. of the supply or take-up spools 22, 27, is provided with a brake 30 which causes a garter spring drive 40 to slip when the incremental length of ink ribbon has been fed. The ink-ribbon 21 is supplied from a spool 22, which is acted upon by a tensioning brake 25, then advanced in front of a printing station 13 by ink ribbon vibrator guides 24 and subsequently passed over guide posts 31, 32 and back again over the guide post 31 (which constitute the brake 30) before being trained over a guide post 26. The inkribbon is then wound on the take-up spool 27, which is driven by the slip drive formed by a garter spring 46 wrapped about driven pulley 45 and driving pulley 44, the latter being advanced by a cam oscillated pawl 41 which engages in apertures 43 of a ratchet wheel 42. The guide post 31, which in conjunction with the post 32 forms a brake 30, is mounted on a bracket 34 pivoting about post 32 under the bias of a spring 35 to vary the wrap-round of the inkribbon about the post 31 and thereby vary the drag force exerted by the brake 30 on the inkribbon. Angular displacement of the bracket is limited by a setting screw 36.
