Abstract
An oil burner of the wall-flame kind has fuel projected on to a surface, a portion of which has been previously heated by a heating device and a sparking device. A shaft 20 carrying a disc 9 and vanes 10, is rotated by a rotor 21 mounted in a stator 22, to draw fuel from a well 4 and pass it through tubes 7, 8 which spray the oil mixed with air drawn through adjustable ports 24, on to a surface formed by loosely connected, heat resistant, metallic alloy plates 11 each provided with a hood 12. An electrical coil 17 is attached to one plate 11 and an igniter rod 13 is mounted in a porcelain housing 14 with its tip 16 spaced from a plate 11 just above the upper limit of the oil strike, the coil being downstream of the rod 13 in the direction of rotation of disc 9. The coil can be heated simultaneously with, or independently of, the spark discharge from rod 13. Oil supply to well 4 from an external source is controlled by a valve 6.
