Abstract
1314935 Portable heaters and nozzles therefor SCHEU MFG CO 13 May 1971 [13 May 1970] 14811/71 Headings F4K and F4T To ensure-proper ignition of a gas fired portable, forced flow apparatus supplying a mixture of air and combustion gases, a bracket 48 for mounting a fuel nozzle 52 in the inlet end of a combustion chamber 20 is provided with a hexagonal aperture 49 corresponding to the cross-section of the nozzle so that the latter is positively positioned with its orifices 54, through which the fuel is delivered, orientated relative to a spark plug 36 to allow proper ignition of the fuel. The combustion chamber 20 which may be made from stainless steel comprises an inlet cover 25 having an opening 26 through which air from a fan 15 comprising both air for heating and combustion air is deflected by an air deflector 34, which also serves to mount the bracket 48, and the outlet end of the chamber is restricted by a baffle 28 having a central opening 29 and a plurality of openings 30 disposed therearound, the baffle serving to contain the flames at the outlet end so that the combustion chamber can be made more compact. The cylindrical combustion chamber 20 is mounted within a housing comprising two substantially cylindrical shell sections 11 and 12 and an air inlet grill 16 and a liner or heat shield 21 is mounted coaxially between and spaced from the wall of chamber 20 and the shell section 12 both to prevent the outside of the heater housing from overheating and also to allow air to flow over the combustion chamber wall and to enter through louvres 23 to aid combustion. The nozzle 52 which is suitably made from aluminium is provided with a flame spreader plate downstream of the orifices 54 and a flame sensor 37 and another sensor 38 for detecting a high limit temperature above which the combustion chamber should not be heated is mounted adjacent an aperture in the inlet cover 25.
