Abstract

A cartridge-operated nail-driving tool comprises a housing 1 having a nozzle 3 at its forward end to receive a nail 5 and a handle 30 at the other end containing a firing mechanism, a striking bolt 10 connected to a piston 11 which is slidable within a bore 2 in the housing, blocking means 37 adapted to render the firing means inoperative until a predetermined force has been applied to the handle, and at least one exhaust port 19 formed in the housing whereby, upon forward movement of the piston beyond the port, air is trapped in the bore and thereby exerts a braking force on the piston. The housing 1 is slidably mounted in a casing 21 which is coupled by means of a bayonettype joint 31, 32 to the handle 30 pivoted at 28 to the casing in order to facilitate loading the tool with a cartridge. The housing is fitted at its inner end with a threaded plug 16 into which the cartridge is inserted, and at its other end with the nozzle 13, the latter being inter. changeable.
