Abstract

1,220,191. Firing appliances and mechanisms. G. BUCK. 12 March, 1969 [14 March, 1968], No. 13121/69. Headings F3A and F3C. A hand-operated firing appliance, more especially for bullets with incendiary, explosive and smoke action, comprises a firing barrel 10, Fig. 1, and a firing mechanism which contains a primer 13 and a firing pin 15, the housing 11 of the firing mechanism having articulated thereon a hinged handle or grip 21 which is hinged alongside the barrel when the appliance is being carried and is adapted to be secured in an outwardly hinged position by a detent mechanism under the pressure of the firing pin spring 17 when the appliance is ready to be fired, the spring 17 being moved from an uncompressed or almost uncompressed position into a compressed position when the grip 21 is swung into its outwardly hinged position. The hinged grip comprises detent notches 21a, 21c, Fig. 3, which co-operate with detent pins 22 fixed on a displaceable spring abutment member 23, Fig. 1. As the grip is swung into its outwardly hinged position a cam 21b on the grip urges the detent pins 22 along a slot 11b thereby displacing the abutment member 23 and compressing spring 17. The displacement of the abutment member moves the member out of a safety position in which it engages over a sliding safety catch 16 for the firing pin. The catch is lifted by a lever 19 upon actuation of a hinged trigger 18, and a widened portion of a slot (not shown) in the catch serves to release the firing pin.
