Abstract
<PICT:0993313/C1/1> <PICT:0993313/C1/2> The invention relates to a method of operating on a rotating glass body (e.g. in the process of cutting off the "lost top" or for burning in the brim) which employs a holder for holding the ware in an annular burner so that the axis thereof coincides substantially with the axis of the annular burner during a relative rotation between the glassware and the burner. The glass object is held by suction by its lower end in saucer-shaped plate 3, Fig. 1. An aperture 9 is connected to vacuum duct 5, 6, 7, 8, extending through the holder. The supporting table 4 attached to plate 3 is suspended by three equidistant coupling rods (e.g. 14) from holder 13, the rods being connected at both ends by universal joints to holder 13 and table 4 respectively, and thus is capable of swinging under holder 13. A coupling plate 10 bearing against foot plate 12 of the holder follows this swinging movement as it is coupled by universal joint 11 to plate 3. The holder and annular burner are displaced in the direction of their common axis so the object can be inserted in the centring ring 33. Situated in ring 33 is adjusting ring 16, Fig. 2, movable over the distance in cleft 18 by handle 17. Equidistant vertical shafts 19, 20, 21 with arms 22, 23, 24 are driven by adjusting ring 16 through slots 25, 26, 27 which engage cams 28, 29, 30 of the arms. Arms 31, 32 in the other side of the centre of rotation constitute adjusting fingers, the tips 34, 35, 36 of which contact the circumference of the object suspended in holder 2 by operating handle 17. The centre of the circle through contacting tips 34, 35, 36 lies on the axis of rotation of holder 2, thus the object is brought into a position in which the circumference practically coincides with a circle having its centre in the axis of rotation of holder 2. The bearing plate 4 follows this adjustment as it slides with coupling plate 10 along footplate 12. The coupling plate 10 and supporting table 4 are held in the adjusted position by suction through cock 37 in branch duct 38. The centring arms are retracted, and ring 33 moved sidewardly, so the centred object can be moved axially into the plane of the annular burner 1.
