Abstract
566,519. Glassware. UNITED GLASS BOTTLE MANUFACTURERS, Ltd., MOORSHEAD, T. C., and DORMAN, E. P. May 26, 1943, No. 8392. [Class 56] - For use in the manufacture of stemmed glassware the stem and circular base are formed in one piece from a length of rod which is rapidly rotated and is heated near one end, the softened portion moving out centrifugally and being acted on by appropriate footshaping members. As shown, the 'rod 2 is held in a rapidly rotated vertical chuck 3 and heating burners 58, 60 are arranged to play on the rod at or adjacent its end. Six downwardlydirected burners and three upwardly-directed burners are provided, the top burners being arranged in three pairs, the two members of each pair having slightly different inclinations. Three upper and three lower positively driven rollers 10, 6 are provided between the burners, the lower rollers being conical, and the centre of the bottom of the rod is engaged by a steadying support 30. The burners are adjustably mounted, the rollers are carried by vertically slidable supports 8, 4 and the support 30 is carried by a vertically slidable positivelydriven shaft 25.
