THOMAS REID, OF IVTALKERVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
FEEDER FOR MILL-ROLLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,982, datedJ'une 26, 1883. Application led March 20, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'IIIoMAs REID, of Walkerville, county of Essex, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Feeders for Mill-Rolls; and I do declarethe followingto be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention consists in the combination of devices and appliances hereinafter speciiied, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a device embodying my invention, with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved feeder for mill-rolls, and is more particularly designed for feeding flour and meal to crushing-rolls.
In carrying out my invention as illustrated in the drawings, A represents the mill-rolls. A represents a suitable hopper provided with a gate, a, whereby the size of the throat of the hopper may be regulated as desired. B is a suitable feed-roll located atthe base of the hopper, and adapted to be revolved by a shaft, b. C is a horizontal bar provided with a number of depending fingers, c, said bar being adapted to be driven by suitable gearing, D, secured to the shaft b and to an upright shaft, d, said upright shaft being provided with an eccentric, E, the bar being secured thereto by means of an eccentric-strap, e. f F is a bracket,
in which the shafts `b and d have their bearing, the bracket being so constructed as to furnish a suitable housing for the gearing D. It is evident that this gearing and eccentric are adapted to cause a rapid longitudinal reciprocation of the bar C along the feed-roll B, whereby the flour or meal in the hopper shall be agitated and fed in a proper manner to the mill-rolls. p Y I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the precise gearing herein described and shown for causing the vibration or reciprocation of the bar.
l. In a feeding device for mill-rolls,and in combination with such rolls, a feed-roll hopper, a horizontal bar provided with a number of projecting ngers located within such hopper, an upright shaft having an eccentric to which the said bar is connected by a strap, and suitable gearing connecting the said upright shaft with the power, substantially as described;
2. In a feeding device for mill-rolls, the combination, with the hopper-gate, roll B, and agitator C c, of the shaft d, having eccentric E, the strap e, connecting the eccentric with the agitator, and the gearing D, connecting the shaft d with the shaft of the roll B, substantially as described. l
In testimony whereof I sign this specication in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS REID.
