436,830. Ellipsographs. GARDNER, A. J., 102, St. Stephen's Avenue, Shepherd's Bush, London. Dec. 14, 1934, No. 35900. [Class 97 (iii)] An ellipsograph comprises a fixed leg 1 adapted to be held in an upright position on the marking surface, a movable leg 5 carrying a pencil 5<a> and held parallel with the fixed leg by links 6, 8, 9, while being free to revolve around and also to move away from and towards the fixed leg, the fixed leg carrying an angularly adjustable arm 15 mounted to revolve around it, and a guide member 16 mounted to slide on the movable leg 5 and connected by a universal joint to the arm 15. The fixed leg is cranked and carries a hollow cylinder 10 mounted on a pivot pin about which it may tilt and carries a sector 13 by which it may be clamped in the tilted position. The arms 15 which is of adjustable length is pivoted on the bearing 10 and attached at the other end to the guide 16 through a universal joint. The leg 5 is provided with two points 2, 3 one of which is placed at the centre and the other along the major axis of the ellipse. The point 5<a> is then placed at the end of the major axis, thus adjusting the length of the arm 15 which is clamped by screws 19. The point 5<a> is then placed at the end of the minor axis thus tilting the arm 15 which is clamped by a screw 14.
