Abstract

A device for operating two or four valves of a four-stroke engine is produced, whose valves are controlled by a standard production camshaft via push rods and rocker levers. In this case, a surface of a cam-shaped projection, abutting on the respective push rod, on each of the rocker levers, has a curve corresponding to an arc of a circle in plan view onto the rocker lever in the direction of the rocker lever axis. Furthermore, the push rod end surface abutting onto the cam-shaped projection of the respective rocker lever is an inherently flat surface (with an infinite radius). As a result of the interaction of the flat push rod end surface and the circular surface of the cam- shaped projection of the rocker lever, the reciprocating movement of the push rod on the rocker lever changes the lever-arm ratio thus changing the time cross-section and in this way achieving better filling of the combustion chamber. In this way, the performance of a standard production engine is significantly improved while using the standard production camshaft.
