Abstract

PURPOSE:To greatly reduce the weight of moving parts, by providing push plates between the parallel spindles of intake and exhaust valves and valve lifters which are pushed by cam shafts, and by using the push plates to simultaneously open and close the plural valves. CONSTITUTION:When valve lifters 54 are simultaneously pushed down by two cams 62 on an intake cam shaft 52 in the process of intake, push plates 56 descend together with the valve lifters to uniformly and simultaneously push the ends 32 of the spindles of four intake valves 16 downward. As a result, valve springs 40 are compressed to simultaneously open the valves 16 to introduce the intake mixture into the combustion chamber through an intake passage 24. In the process of exhaust, two valve lifters 76 and a single push plate 78 are pushed down by exhaust cams 88 to simultaneously open three exhaust valves 18.
