Abstract
Envase de cartón para envasado activo de frutas y hortalizas frescas, y procedimiento de fabricación del mismo. Esta invención está relacionada, en general, con el campo de la tecnología de envasado de productos vegetales, como frutas y hortalizas frescas enteras que suelen tener cierta carga microbiana superficial. Concretamente, esta invención se refiere a un nuevo envase de cartón que se caracteriza por tener un recubrimiento activo antimicrobiano, a base de un compuesto polimérico en combinación con aceites esenciales que forman complejos de inclusión con ciclodextrinas. Los vapores de los aceites esenciales se desprenden del cartón a medida que se alcanzan humedades relativas suficientemente elevadas en las inmediaciones de este recubrimiento que está junto al producto envasado, y estos vapores tienen una acción antimicrobiana frente a hongos, levaduras y bacterias, tanto alterantes de la calidad del producto como patógenos para los consumidores. Este nuevo envase consigue aumentar de forma significativa la seguridad alimentaria y la vida útil de los alimentos que se envasan en el mismo.

5 b) el secado del recubrimiento antimicrobiano aplicado en a).
En una realización particular y preferida de la invención el recubrimiento antimicrobiano aplicado posee la siguiente composición: -Compuesto polimérico, en una concentración en peso del 5 al 30 %, preferiblemente 10 del 10 al 25%;
-complejos de inclusión de ciclodextrinas con aceites esenciales o componentes de estos aceites o mezclas de ambos, en una concentración en peso del 5 al 30 %, preferiblemente del 10 al 25%;
-agua, en una concentración en peso del 40 al 90 %, preferiblemente del 50 al 80%.
15 El secado del recubrimiento antimicrobiano de la etapa b) de procedimiento, se puede llevar acabo de diferentes maneras aunque de una manera preferente se realiza mediante secado a una temperatura comprendida entre 70 ºC y 180 ºC, preferiblemente entre 100 ºC y 170 ºC.
20 En cuanto al tipo de plancha de cartón que se debe utilizar para la fabricación del envase de la invención, esta debe ser preferiblemente de un tipo de cartón seleccionado de entre los siguientes: cartón prensado o cartoncillo, de una o varias capas de papel; o cartón ondulado de una onda o cartón de doble cara (formado por dos caras lisas y una hoja ondulada), o
25 cartón de dos ondas o cartón doble-doble (formado por 3 caras lisas y 2 onduladas), o cartón triple (formado por 4 caras lisas y 3 caras onduladas). La citada onda o canal de la hoja ondulada será de tipo microcanal (onda con una altura de menos de 2 mm); o de tipo onda pequeña (onda con una altura comprendida entre 2.5 y 3.5 mm); o de tipo onda mediana (onda con una altura comprendida entre 3.6 y 4.5 mm); o de onda grande (onda
30 con una altura comprendida entre 4.6 y 5.5 mm).
La fabricación del envase objeto de esta invención se adaptará preferiblemente a una forma de envase como la caja que se indica en la Figura 2, que es apilable.
35 En su fabricación, el envase podrá llevar un alveolo (12) para la colocación de los frutos o unidades de hortaliza que se vayan a envasar. Este alveolo (12) podrá ser de material

La caja de cartón (5) tiene el recubrimiento activo antimicrobiano descrito anteriormente (tal como se describe en la Figura 2 anterior) aplicado en toda su superficie interna, y también lleva un alveolo (12) para la colocación de los frutos o unidades de hortaliza que se vayan a envasar. Estos alveolos sirven para que no se golpeen entre sí las unidades de producto envasado, y mejorar su presentación. Este alveolo puede ser de material plástico o papel o cartón prensado, y podrá incluir, o no, en el mismo material de construcción algún tipo de agente antimicrobiano o adsorbente de etileno, aplicado como recubrimiento o según otro procedimiento sobre ese material.
Figura 4. Otro ejemplo práctico de realización de esta invención. La caja de cartón (5) tiene una lámina (13) de papel o de material plástico que se utiliza para envolver completamente pero no herméticamente (por abajo y por arriba) las unidades de fruta y hortalizas envasadas en esta caja (5). Esta envoltura (13), que se coloca en el interior de la caja (5), puede ser de material plástico o papel, y podrá incluir, o no, en el mismo material de construcción algún tipo de agente antimicrobiano o adsorbente de etileno, aplicado como recubrimiento o según otro procedimiento sobre ese material. Esta envoltura puede ser no completa, y tapar solo la parte superior de la caja (5), y puede estar formada por una sola lámina o por dos láminas (13) que se pueden abrir tal como se indica en esta Figura 4. En este último caso, esta envoltura parcial (13), que no recubre el interior del fondo de la caja (5), podrá estar pegada a los laterales (14) de la caja (5).

La caja de cartón (5) tiene una lámina (13) de papel o de material plástico que se utiliza para envolver completamente o parcialmente las unidades de producto envasado, tal como se ha explicado en la Figura 4 anterior. Y el envase (5) objeto de esta invención tiene también un alveolo (12) con la funcionalidad y las características que se han explicado en la Figura 3 anterior. En esta Figura 5 se ven los elementos de envase (12)y (13) separados para que se pueda apreciar mejor su forma y disposición.
En la Figura 6 se ven estos mismos elementos de envase (12)y (13) colocados en su sitio en el interior de la caja (5).
