Abstract
Una partícula polimérica que comprende una partícula núcleo de un polímero de adición que ha tenido hinchada y polimerizada dentro de ella una mezcla de un alcohol aromático con un aldehído o una mezcla de una amina aromática o urea con un aldehído y que posteriormente se ha tratado térmicamente hasta una temperatura de al menos 150 ºC, y que posteriormente se ha recubierto con al menos una capa que comprende un metal; o que posteriormente se ha tratado con una amina.

En todas las etapas del proceso, es decir, tras el tratamiento térmico, el tratamiento superficial o el recubrimiento, las partículas poliméricas de la invención son preferentemente monodispersas.
Las partículas poliméricas tratadas superficialmente de acuerdo con la invención tienen preferentemente un diámetro en el intervalo de 3 μm a 1000 μm, preferentemente 100-800 μm, más preferentemente 250-800 μm.
Aplicaciones
Las partículas de la invención tienen aplicaciones obvias en electrónica. La invención, por tanto, proporciona un elemento de un circuito electrónico unido a un sustrato usando al menos una partícula recubierta de la invención. En particular, la invención se refiere a su uso en matrices de mallas de bolas (BGA), paquetes de escala de chip (CSP) y adhesivos conductores. Así pues, la invención engloba también una matriz de mallas de bolas o una parte de un circuito electrónico que comprende las partículas recubiertas de acuerdo con la invención.
Las partículas de la invención se pueden emplear también en cualquier sitio donde se pueda desear una partícula conductora.
La invención se ilustra mediante los siguientes ejemplos.
Descripción de las figuras
La Figura 1 muestra las partículas obtenidas en el Ejemplo 2, ensayadas mecánicamente mediante compresión usando un dispositivo BOSE ElectroForce 3200 con un punzón plano. La Figura 2 muestra las partículas obtenidas en el Ejemplo 3, ensayadas mecánicamente mediante compresión usando un dispositivo BOSE ElectroForce 3200 modificado con un punzón plano.
Ejemplos
Ejemplo 1
Sulfonación de partículas de poliestireno de 55 μm de un solo tamaño.
Se prepararon partículas de poliestireno de un solo tamaño (55 μm) reticuladas con un 0,1 % en peso de divinilbenceno mediante el método de hinchamiento activado de Ugelstad. En un reactor hermético se añadieron 90 ml de 1,2-dicloroetano a 6,5 g de partículas secas. Al cabo de 48 horas se añadieron 390 g de ácido sulfúrico concentrado y se agitó la dispersión de partículas a 90 ºC durante 24 horas. La dispersión se enfrió hasta temperatura ambiente y se vertió con cuidado en 3 litros de agua. Las partículas se lavaron sobre un filtro vertiendo continuamente agua a través de la dispersión, hasta que el agua de lavado tuvo un pH de aproximadamente 6. La dispersión final obtenida tenía un contenido de sólidos del 0,52 % y comprendía partículas sulfonadas hinchadas de un solo tamaño con un diámetro de 345 μm.
Ejemplo 2
Preparación de partículas de resorcinol-formaldehído
A 19,23 g de la dispersión de partículas sulfonadas de un solo tamaño del ejemplo 1 que contenía 0,1 g de partículas secas, se añadieron 480 g de agua, 13,33 g de resorcinol y 29,48 g de una solución de formaldehído al 37 %. La mezcla se calentó hasta 65 ºC con agitación durante 2 horas para dar partículas de resorcinol-formaldehído de un solo tamaño con un diámetro de 332 μm. Las partículas se sedimentaron y se dispersaron de nuevo en agua varias veces hasta que la fase acuosa ya no presentó partículas finas. Por último, las partículas se secaron al aire a temperatura ambiente. Eran de color rojo-marrón y se designaron como no tratadas térmicamente. Una muestra de partículas se sometió a tratamiento térmico a 200 ºC durante 2 horas. Estas partículas se designaron como tratadas térmicamente a 200 ºC.
Las partículas producidas se ensayaron mecánicamente mediante compresión usando un dispositivo Tryboindenter® de Hysitron modificado con un punzón plano. Los resultados se muestran en la Figura 1. A efectos de facilitar la interpretación se incluyen dos líneas que muestran el rendimiento calculado de las partículas con un módulo de 1000 MPa y 2000 MPa. Las líneas calculadas son del método de Zhang, Kristiansen y Liu. Computational Materials Science 39 305-314 (2007). Las líneas calculadas compensan los efectos de la geometría: compresión de una partícula esférica. El ensayo implica en primer lugar aplicar una carga a la partícula mediante compresión durante 20 segundos, mantener la deformación máxima durante 5 segundos y eliminar después la carga y seguir la recuperación. La recuperación se sigue durante 15 segundos.
Es importante destacar que la curva de histéresis de las partículas térmicamente tratadas muestra una rápida recuperación hasta casi la forma esférica (incluso considerando que la recuperación se sigue sólo durante un corto periodo de tiempo, 15 segundos). La recuperación tras el tratamiento térmico mejora notablemente.

Ejemplo 3
Preparación de partículas de resorcinol-acetaldehído
A 19,23 g de la dispersión de partículas sulfonadas de un solo tamaño del ejemplo 1 que contenía 0,1 g de partículas secas, se añadieron 66 g de agua, 8,90 g de resorcinol y 10,68 g de acetaldehído. La mezcla se calentó hasta 65 ºC con agitación durante 4 horas para dar partículas de resorcinol-acetaldehído de un solo tamaño con un diámetro de 280. Por último, las partículas se secaron al aire a temperatura ambiente. Las partículas se sedimentaron y se dispersaron de nuevo en agua varias veces hasta que la fase acuosa ya no presentó partículas finas. Por último, las partículas se secaron al aire a temperatura ambiente. Eran de color marrón oscuro y se designaron como no tratadas térmicamente. Una muestra de partículas se sometió a tratamiento térmico a 200 ºC durante 2 horas. Estas partículas se designaron como tratadas térmicamente a 200 ºC.
Las partículas producidas se ensayaron mecánicamente mediante compresión usando un dispositivo Tryboindenter® de Hysitron modificado con un punzón plano. Los resultados se muestran en la Figura 2. Ejemplo 4
Dilatación térmica de las partículas de resorcinol-formaldehído
Se usó un dispositivo TGA7 de Perkin Elmer para tratar térmicamente las partículas producidas en el ejemplo 2 durante un tiempo predeterminado en una atmósfera de nitrógeno seco. Las partículas resultantes se ensayaron posteriormente en un dispositivo TMA7 de Perkin Elmer para determinar el coeficiente de dilatación térmica, mostrado en la Tabla 1.

Ejemplo 5
Partículas de resorcinol formaldehído tratadas térmicamente y tratadas superficialmente con tetraetilenpentamina.
Las esferas poliméricas monodispersas suministradas por Conpart AS (Oslo, Noruega) con un diámetro modal de 380 μm compuestas por resorcinol formaldehído se produjeron según el método descrito en los documentos WO 93/02112 y WO 00/61647.
Se calentaron 200 g de partículas poliméricas hasta 200 ºC durante 2 horas al aire. Las partículas se enfriaron hasta temperatura ambiente.
Se dispersaron 100 g de partículas poliméricas térmicamente tratadas con un diámetro nominal de 380 micrómetros en una mezcla de 125 ml de agua Milli-Q, 124 ml de etilenglicol y 74 ml de tetraetilenpentamina. La mezcla se calentó hasta 105 ºC y se mantuvo a esa temperatura durante 24 horas. Las partículas se enfriaron y se lavaron con agua Milli-Q.
Ejemplo 6: Recubrimiento con metal de partículas de resorcinol formaldehído tratadas térmicamente y tratadas superficialmente con tetraetilenpentamina.
Las partículas del ejemplo 5 se dispersaron en 1200 ml de agua y se añadieron 600 mg de tetracloro paladiato. Las partículas se calentaron hasta 60 ºC. Las partículas se lavaron con agua Milli-Q una vez y se dispersaron de nuevo en agua Milli-Q y se calentaron hasta 60 ºC. Se añadieron 1500 mg de dimetilaminoborano. Las partículas se agitaron durante 20 minutos antes de lavar tres veces con agua Milli-Q.
Se añadieron 27,5 g de partículas (con catalizador añadido) a una mezcla de 1500 ml de agua Milli-Q, 45 g de polivinilipirrolidona, y 15 g de cloruro de níquel hexahidrato. Se añadieron 28,4 ml de una solución de amoníaco al 25 %. Con agitación rápida se añadieron 37 ml de una solución de 100 mg/ml de dimetilaminoborano.
Las partículas resultantes estaban recubiertas homogéneamente con una capa de níquel que mostraba una buena adhesión. El espesor del recubrimiento fue nominalmente de 1 micrómetro.
