Definitions

  • the invention relates to a can lid, in particular for beverage cans, with a metallic lid surface in which an opening delimited by a closed edge of the lid surface is formed, which is closed by a closure piece of the metal lid surface, the closure piece being formed at least in sections along the edge the microgap extending along the lid surface is separated from the surrounding lid surface, with a first end region of the closure piece being connected to the surrounding lid surface via a pivot bearing, and with a tear-open element which engages on a second end region of the closure piece opposite the pivot bearing, so that by pulling on the tear-open element pivoting out of the closure piece from the plane defined by the opening is made possible.
  • Can ends of this type are used extensively in the manufacture of beverage cans, food cans and the like. They are easy and inexpensive to manufacture, enable space-saving stacking of similar cans and can be easily opened and, if necessary, closed again by manually moving the closure piece. Due to the micro-gap, when the can is opened there are no harmful metal particles entering the interior of the can.
  • the task is solved by a can lid with the features of claim 1 .
  • the invention provides that the microgap between the first end area and the second end area is interrupted by at least one retaining web, via which the closure piece and the surrounding cover surface are connected to one another in a materially bonded manner. If the closure piece is pivoted upwards by pulling on the tear-open element, initially only a relatively small opening is created, which starts from the second end area and extends at most to the holding web. The holding web initially counteracts any further opening. Due to the relatively small initial opening, the can is already ventilated, which is also referred to as "venting". In the further course of the opening movement, the retaining web tears, so that it is possible to open the closure piece completely and thereby release the entire opening.
  • a particular advantage lies in the simple construction of a can lid according to the invention, because it is sufficient not to run the existing microgap all the way around, but to provide it with a recess to form the holding web. It is therefore not necessary to provide a separate additional holding device.
  • a further advantageous effect of the invention is that the holding web increases the stability of the lid closure. It has been shown that Due to the metallic retaining web, there are no leaks or even the closure piece flaking off, even if the internal pressure in the can is greatly increased and/or at high temperatures. A high temperature and the associated high internal pressure not only occur when cans with carbonated beverages are exposed to sunlight, but also when pasteurization is required for many applications. A sealing film that may be provided to cover the microgap is protected from overloading by the holding web.
  • the holding web is also advantageous in that it ensures that the closure piece is reliably held in the opening during manufacture.
  • the at least one holding web has a width of 0.1 mm to 6 mm, preferably 1.5 mm to 4 mm. It has been shown that with such a web width, on the one hand, a sufficiently strong holding effect for a ventilation effect is ensured, but, on the other hand, the holding web can be broken sufficiently easily in order to avoid obstructing the opening process.
  • the width of the holding web can be measured along the edge delimiting the opening or along the path of the microgap.
  • the at least one holding web can have a notch.
  • the notch ensures that the holding web is torn in a defined manner when the breech is pivoted up for the first time, namely along the notch. Undesirable tearing of the closure piece or the surrounding lid surface is thus avoided.
  • the indentation can extend along the edge of the lid surface and/or the microgap. The shape and depth of the indentation can be adjusted to provide a desired tear strength.
  • the notch preferably has a depth of at least 0.03 mm and/or at least a quarter of the thickness of the metal cover surface.
  • the microgap between the first end area and the second end area is preferably interrupted by a web arrangement of at least two holding webs, via which the closure piece and the surrounding cover surface are connected to one another in a materially bonded manner. This ensures that the closure piece is evenly fixed in the opening.
  • the web arrangement can be designed in such a way that a relatively small initial opening is formed during the opening process. The smaller the initial opening, the more controlled and gentle the excess pressure can escape.
  • the web arrangement can comprise holding webs arranged on both sides of the second end region. There is thus resistance to opening of the microgap on both sides of the point of action of the tearing element, so that the holding effect is uniform.
  • the web arrangement preferably comprises at least one pair of holding webs arranged opposite one another with respect to a central region of the closure piece. This provides symmetrical resistance to the opening movement.
  • the web arrangement can comprise at least four and at most eight, preferably six, holding webs distributed along the edge of the cover surface. This results in a particularly stable hold of the closure piece in the opening and counteracts overloading of a coating or film covering the microgap.
  • the holding webs of the web arrangement can be designed identically in order to ensure a particularly simple construction.
  • a further embodiment of the invention provides that the microgap is a punched gap and the at least one holding web is formed by a punched recess.
  • An embossing device such as an embossing die, can be arranged in the punched recess, which is designed to produce a notch, in particular as described above, in the holding web in question.
  • the microgap has a maximum width of 0.01 mm. This has proven to be particularly favorable in practice.
  • the closure piece can also be held in the surrounding cover surface by clamping.
  • a coating of a plastic material can be applied to a flat side of the metallic cover surface, covering the microgap.

  • the coating is therefore preferably located on the lid side facing the inside of the can. Generally, this is the underside of the metallic lid surface.
  • the coating can be applied over the entire surface of the flat side of the metallic cover surface. This is advantageous in terms of manufacturing technology and ensures a particularly high sealing effect.
  • the coating can be in the form of a film and/or applied to the metallic cover surface in a firmly adhering manner, for example by sealing.

  • the weakening reduces the force required to open the can. Due to the distance between the weakening and the microgap, a high level of tightness is ensured.
