L'invention concerne un dispositif de traitement capillaire (10), comprenant - au moins une sortie de vapeur (30) permettant d'émettre de la vapeur sur les cheveux, - un système (40) permettant de fournir de la vapeur à ladite sortie de vapeur (30), - au moins un détecteur (50) permettant de détecter un contact ou une proximité du dispositif avec les cheveux, et - une unité de commande de vapeur (59) configurée pour autoriser l'alimentation en vapeur et/ou pour fournir automatiquement de la vapeur à la sortie de vapeur (30) par le système d'alimentation en vapeur (40) lorsqu'au moins une condition prédéfinie est satisfaite, cette condition étant une condition de contact ou de proximité avec les cheveux vérifiée à partir d'informations générées par le détecteur de contact ou de proximité (50).
