Definitions
- the present invention relates to an imaging printing form which comprises a base body with an elastomer coating, wherein the elastomer coating bears an engraved pattern, wherein the elastomer coating consists essentially of hard rubber and has a hardness of greater than 70 ShoreD according to DIN ISO 7619-1, characterized in that the hard rubber is a hard rubber based on butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber (NBR), carboxyl group-containing nitrile rubber (XNBR), hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR) or combinations thereof.
- the present invention further comprises a method for producing an imaging printing form and a method for gravure printing.
- the intaglio printing process is a printing technique in which the elements to be reproduced are present as depressions (cells) in the printing form.
- the printing is done by first inking the entire printing form, removing the excess ink with a squeegee or wiper so that the printing ink is only in the depressions, and then transferring the printing ink to the paper.
- the printing form can be a printing plate or a gravure cylinder.
- doctor blade gravure or rotary gravure printing is particularly important, where the printing form is a gravure cylinder. This process is used, for example, for printing magazines or catalogs.
- the production of the imaging (printing) surfaces of the printing form is carried out in the conventional way by first processing a soft copper layer with a Mohs hardness of, for example, 2 using electromechanical engraving or laser engraving and then engraving the printing cells.
- the softness of the copper layer is necessary in order to create the engraving using the engraving tools used in the state of the art without immediately wearing them out. If these tools wear out too much, this process would no longer be economical.
- a hard chrome layer with a Mohs hardness of, for example, 8 is then applied in a galvanic process to protect the engraving layer from wear caused by the squeegee during the printing process.
- this conventional process has disadvantages. This process requires the application of two layers to the printing form and is therefore comparatively complex and energy-intensive.
- this process includes a galvanic process step for applying the chrome layer, which is extremely unfavorable from a health and environmental point of view.
- Hard chrome plating usually uses chromium (VI) trioxide, which is highly toxic in the application until it is deposited.
- chromium (VI) trioxide which is highly toxic in the application until it is deposited.
- the proper disposal of chromium compounds is problematic from both an environmental and cost perspective. Since the batch sizes of print jobs are becoming smaller and smaller, the disadvantages associated with this conventional process for producing printing forms are no longer proportionate to the benefits.
- the present invention is therefore based on the object of providing an imaging printing form, the production of which avoids the disadvantages of conventional methods described above.
- the present invention is also based on the object of providing a correspondingly improved production method.
- an imaging printing form which comprises a base body with an elastomer coating, wherein the elastomer coating bears an engraved pattern, wherein the elastomer coating consists essentially of hard rubber and has a hardness of greater than 70 ShoreD according to DIN ISO 7619-1, characterized in that the hard rubber is a hard rubber based on butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber (NBR), carboxyl group-containing nitrile rubber (XNBR), hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR) or combinations thereof.
- NBR butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber
- XNBR carboxyl group-containing nitrile rubber
- HNBR hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber
- the printing form according to the invention comprises an elastomer coating which consists essentially of hard rubber.
- This elastomer coating is also referred to below as a hard rubber layer.
- a printing form with a printing layer is provided which Both layers in conventional printing forms (namely the copper layer and the chrome layer) are replaced by a single hard rubber layer.
- the base body of the printing form according to the invention thus comprises the elastomer coating as a single layer.
- the hard rubber layer enables engraving using the engraving techniques known in the gravure printing industry, completely dispensing with the electroplating surface treatment described in the prior art.
- the hard rubber of the printing form according to the invention is a hard rubber based on butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber (NBR), carboxyl group-containing nitrile rubber (XNBR), hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR) or combinations thereof.

- HNBR hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber
- the elastomer coating of the printing form according to the invention has a hardness of greater than 70 ShoreD. This hardness is determined in accordance with DIN ISO 7619-1. In contrast to conventional elastomers, the hard rubber layer of the printing form according to the invention therefore has a higher hardness (corresponding to a higher modulus of elasticity) and thus a lower deformation and recovery (rubber elasticity).
- the imaging printing form according to the invention can be any suitable printing form.
- the imaging printing form is preferably a gravure cylinder or a printing plate.
- a gravure cylinder is particularly preferred because it is used most frequently in commercial printing.
- the base body is preferably a hollow cylinder, an axle cylinder or a sleeve as a cylindrical strength carrier.
- the base body can be made of any suitable material.
- the base body can consist of plastic or metal, for example.
- the base body consists of aluminum and/or steel.
- the base body is particularly preferably a hollow cylinder or an axle cylinder made of aluminum and/or steel.
- the elastomer coating of the printing form according to the invention can have any suitable thickness.
- the elastomer coating preferably has a thickness of at least 30 ⁇ m.
- the elastomer coating has a thickness in the range from 30 ⁇ m to 30 mm.
- the large range from 30 ⁇ m to 30 mm allows the printing form to be used multiple times without re-rubbering. To do this, an engraving is simply sanded off after use and a new engraving is applied.
- the roughness of the elastomer coating can be suitably adjusted by grinding and polishing, for example to an average roughness depth of less than 2 ⁇ m Rz.
- the surface of the elastomer coating has an average roughness depth of less than 1 ⁇ m Rz. The roughness ensures that an ink film allows the doctor blade to slide on the surface of the printing form during subsequent printing.
- the present invention further relates to a method for producing an imaging printing form, comprising (a) providing a base body, (b) providing an elastomer coating on the base body and (c) providing an engraving pattern on the elastomer coating by engraving, characterized in that the elastomer coating consists essentially of a hard rubber and has a hardness of greater than 70 ShoreD according to DIN ISO 7619-1 and wherein the hard rubber is a hard rubber based on butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber (NBR), carboxyl group-containing nitrile rubber (XNBR), hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR) or combinations thereof.

Description

- Farbe: CA.9005 RAL
- Härte: 77D Shore A
- Dichte: 1,245 g/cm3
