- the invention is described using the various embodiments mentioned above. An element common to these modes is designated by the same reference.
- a snowboard binding comprises, according to one or other of the different embodiments, a base 1, a support shell 3 and a pedal 5.
- the base 1 is intended to be fixed to a snowboard (not shown) and comprises a front part 7 which receives the front of the snow boot 2 from a user and a rear part 9, whether attached or not, which carries a first axis of rotation A1.
- a support shell 3 is movable in rotation relative to the base 1 around this first axis of rotation A1, between an open position and a closed position.
- a pedal 5 is movable relative to the support shell 3 around a second axis of rotation A2, to control it from an open, initial or intermediate position, to the closed position.
- the support shell 3 comprises, FIGS. 1 to 3, a shell 13, of concave shape, and two shell sides 12 which carry the second axis of rotation A2.
- the bottom of the shell 13 preferably has a concave shape for receiving the heel of the boot 2 of a user.
- the opening position, initial or intermediate, and the closed position of the support shell 3 are defined by angular values around the axis of rotation A1. The angular value of the open position is greater than the angular value of the closed position, if the base 1 is taken as a common reference for the two positions.
- a boot stop is formed in the hull bottom 13 by a hinge along the first axis of rotation A1, comprising a bearing 61 carried by the hull bottom 13 and an axis 57 carried by the base 1 and received in bearing 61.
- the boot stopper allows, as explained above, to guide and pre-position the boot 2 of a user, in any position between the intermediate open position, FIG. 2, and the closed position, FIG. 3.
- the intermediate opening position is defined by the first contact between the boot stopper and the boot of a user during the rotation of the support shell 3 around the first axis of rotation A1.
- the bottom-of-shell 13 is notched opposite the bearing 61 to allow the latter to play the role of boot stop.
- the pedal 5 is preferably carried by two arms 17 movable around the second axis of rotation A2 by two links which use, for example, rivets 15 received in holes 16.
- the pedal 5 controls the support shell 3 in the position closing automatically, without manual intervention.
- the arms 17 transmit a thrust from the boot 2 of a user to the support shell 3 by producing a motor torque from the initial opening position to the final closing position.
- the arms 17 are linked to the base 1 in such a way as to allow them to move forward or backward combined with the rotational movement around the second axis of rotation A2 .
- the arms 17 which carry the pedal 5 are mounted freewheeling around the second axis of rotation A2.
- the freewheel mounting of the arms which carry the pedal is compatible with the embodiments illustrating the connection of the arms to the base allowing the movement of advancement or retreat.
- the connection of the arms to the base allowing this movement of forwards and backwards is compatible with the embodiments illustrating the freewheel mounting of the arms.
- the pedal 5 is fixed to the arms 17 which carry it.
- the invention provides that the pedal 5 will for example be mounted in rotation around a bar which is itself fixed to the arms 17.
- the invention also provides that the pedal 5 will be split into two pedals, each carried by an arm 17 .
- the connecting means 15, 16 along the second axis of rotation A2 ensure the guiding in rotation of the pedal 5, which pivots freely relative to the base 1 to orient itself according to the sole of a user's boot during putting on.
- two links 21 are articulated to the arms 17 and articulated to the base 1 to increase the precision of the guidance of the pedal 5.
- the respective articulations comprise connecting means 23 and 25.
- This system of guide allows the arms 17 to carry out a forward movement towards the front part 7 of the base then a backward movement towards the rear part 9 of the base 1, during the rotation of the support shell 3 around the first axis of rotation A1.
- the link 21 makes it possible to absorb a horizontal component of the movement of the arms 17 which carry the pedal 5 during the rotation of the support shell 3 around the first axis of rotation A1.
- the links 21 are articulated to the front part 7 of the base 1.
- This embodiment has the advantage of producing, in the open position, the loosening of a front strap, as will be explained further on.
- the links 21 are articulated to the rear part 9 of the base 1.
- the arms 17 are articulated to the base 1 by a guide 20 carried by the base 1 and an axis 22 carried by the arms 17 and received in the guide 20.
- the guide 20 can be oblong or curvilinear, as illustrated in FIG. 4. This articulation produces the same effect as the link described above, namely a forward movement of the arms 17 towards the front part 7 of the base then a backward movement towards the rear part 9 of the base 1, during the rotation of the support shell 3 around the first axis of rotation A1.
- the arms 17 which carry the pedal 5 have a length, counted from the pedal 5 to the connecting means 15, 16 along the second axis of rotation A2, preferably chosen so that the pedal 5 comes into direct contact with the snowboard in the closed position. This arrangement facilitates the eventual elimination of snow accumulated in the open position.
- direct contact of the pedal 5 with the snowboard promotes the transmission of heel thrust from a user. This direct contact applies to the six embodiments of the invention.
- a snowboard binding according to the invention comprises means for holding the support shell in the closed position.
- the locking means comprises a lever 27 hinged to the support shell 3 by a link 29 to pivot against an elastic return means (not shown).
- the lever 27 is provided with notches 31 and cooperates with a retaining element 33, fixed relative to the rear part 9 of the base 1 and provided with notches 35.
- the notches 31 and 35 respectively of the lever 27 and the element fixed 33 are oriented to block the support shell 3 in a closed position by opposing the pivoting of the latter in the open position. Note that the notches 31 and 35 respectively of the lever 27 and the fixed element 33 determine several locked closing positions.
- This arrangement makes it possible to take into account the possible presence of snow under the pedal 5 or under the boot of the user. Unlocking is caused by manual action on the lever 27, for example using a flexible link (not shown), to release the notches 31 and 35.
- the lever 27 can be arranged on one side of the support shell 3, that is to say on the side of one of the two connections 15 of the support shell 3 with the arms 17 which carry the pedal 5. It can also be arranged on both sides of the support shell 3. In this case, it can take the form of an arch 37 and act symmetrically.
- a second example is described with reference to the sixth embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 8 and 9, but again this example applies to the other embodiments. It differs from the previous example in that the lever 27 comprises a spout 39 instead of notches and cooperates with a relief element 41 in relief fixed to the rear part 9 of the base 1. Note the reference 42 of the elastic return means of the lever 27, a spring, mounted around the connection 29 between the lever 27 and the support shell 3.
- This second example of locking means allows only one locked closing position.
- the lever can be pivotally mounted on the base and cooperate with an element fixed on the support shell.
- a retaining strap 43 in one piece or arranged in correspondence with the ankle of the boot 2 of a user, is articulated by a link 45 to each arm 17 which carries the pedal 5.
- the binding comprises several straps, for example a front strap 47 and an ankle strap 43
- the front strap 47 is articulated to the front part 7 of the base 1 while the ankle strap 43 is articulated to the pedal 5 by the arms 17.
- the link 45 is disposed on the arms 17 at a distance from the first axis of rotation A1, greater than the distance between the first and the second axis of rotation A2, so as to produce an amplification of the movement of the arms 17 relative to the movement of the support shell 3.
- the invention also provides a means for raising the front strap 47 in the open position, to facilitate putting on.
- the front strap 47 is pivotally mounted on the arms 17 which carry the pedal 5, according to a connection 51.
- the rotation of the arms 17 around the second axis of rotation A2 in the initial opening position, FIG. 1 drives the front strap 47 in a loosening movement determined by the backward movement of the arms 17.
- the front strap 47 passes from a tightening position to a loosening position, determined respectively by an advance position of the arms 17 in the closed position of the support shell
- the backward movement of the arms 17 in the initial opening position can also determine a movement for loosening a front strap according to the second embodiment. As illustrated in FIG. 4, it is the articulation between the curvilinear guide 20 carried by the base 1 and the axis 22 carried by the arms 17 and received in the curvilinear guide 20 which allows the recoil movement of the arms 17 and loosening the front strap 47.
- the front strap 47 is pivotally mounted on a lever 49 articulated at the base 1 according to a connection
- connection 55 constitutes the point of transmission of the movement of the support shell 3 to the lever 49
- the invention provides for placing this connection 55 so that, in the open position, it is at a distance from the first axis of rotation A1, greater than the distance between the first and second axis of rotation A2, so as to produce an amplification of the movement of the lever 49 relative to the movement of the pedal 5.
- the lever 49 can be fixed to the transmission element 53 rigidly, provided that the link 51 has an oblong hole to absorb the component horizontal movement of the transmission element 53 during the pivoting of the support shell 3.
- the lever 49 can also be linked to the support shell 3 by an oblong hole.
- FIGS 10 to 13 illustrate more particularly the support shell of the various embodiments of the snowboard binding according to the invention.
- the support shell 3 comprises a shell 13, two shell sides 12 and a first axis of rotation A1.
- This axis of rotation A1 is carried by a hinge bearing 61 forming in the bottom of the shell 13 a boot stop in any position of the support shell 3 comprised between two angular positions, of opening and closing, around of the first axis of rotation A1.
- the shell 13 itself serves as a boot stopper to guide and pre-position the boot of a user.
- the bottom-of-shell 13 comprises a notch 14 facing the bearing 61 so that the latter serves as a boot stop.
- the bearing 61 or a roller 65 mounted in rotation relative to the bearing 61 may advantageously have an envelope 18 with a concave generator to center the boot of a user.
- the bearing 61 carried by the bottom-of-shell 13 receives, in FIG. 13, an axis 57 carried by the base 1 to form a hinge along the first axis of rotation A1.
- the axis 57 is fixed to an inter-axis 59 by screws 63.
- the rear part 9 of the base 1 can have a hoop shape , provided that the width A of the hinge, measured along the axis 57, is less than the width B of the support shell 3, measured along the second axis of rotation between the holes 16 intended to receive the rivets 15 connecting with the pedal 5.
