Definitions
- the present invention relates to a watch component having a magnetic shielding function and comprising a steel alloy.
- Stainless steel will comprise at least 12% by weight of chromium so as to obtain good corrosion resistance.
- the nickel in order to obtain a good resistance to corrosion, the nickel is added to form an austenitic structure. Molybdenum increases the resistance to pitting corrosion in the presence of Cl ions.
- the second phases are not favorable, such as Martensite induced by ⁇ -ferrite deformation.
- ⁇ -ferrite is ferromagnetic and makes the steel less polishable.
- the carbon concentration should be low otherwise, at high temperatures, chromium carbides are formed resulting in a decrease in chromium in the steel matrix.
- Austenitic steels are more or less sensitive to stress corrosion. The martensitic steel variants are stainless only in the quenched condition, where the chromium is in solution.
- type 316L steel (X2CrNiMo18-14-3), Sandvik steel 1802 (AISI 431, X2CrMoTiS18-2) or Chronifer® M-15X steel are considered the stainless steels of choice for watch components, where the tradeoff between function and formatting is concerned.
- the formatting is important since the watch cases are normally produced from cut sheets. In order to achieve their desired final shape, depending on the type of the watch case, the steel must be strongly cold pressed and, depending on the height of the case, be annealed.
- a soft iron cage In order to protect the parts of a watch mechanism that are sensitive to the influence of strong magnetic fields, some watch manufacturers have integrated a soft iron cage into titanium or stainless steel AISI 316L watch cases, Sandvik 1802 or Chronifer® M-15X steel mentioned above. It is, for example, well known to make casing circles of soft iron. This soft iron cage prevents magnetic fields from entering the movement of the watch. In this way, the movement of a watch can be protected against magnetic fields up to 80000 A / m.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a timepiece component comprising a steel alloy which not only has magnetic shielding properties but also has good machinability, corrosion resistance and ductility properties.
- the proposed steel alloy component can be polished and / or finished to an acceptable aesthetic standard, for example so as to be eligible for the Geneva Seal, while having a reasonable price.
- this object is achieved by a component comprising a steel alloy comprising, by weight: 16% and 20% chromium; between 0.05% and 0.5% of sulfur; between 0.1% and 0.3% nitrogen; between 0.1% and 0.3% nickel; between 0.1% and 0.3% of niobium and / or cobalt; not more than 1% silicon; not more than 0.1% of carbon; and at most 0.04% phosphorus.
- the remainder of the alloy essentially comprises iron.
- One or more watch components such as components comprised within a watch case or watch case elements, may be made with the steel alloy of the invention so that or these components play a role of magnetic shielding, without the need to add additional components to the watch.
- the invention also relates to a timepiece (for example a watch) comprising said component.
- the alloy residue is essentially iron.
- the steel alloy comprises, by weight: 17.5% chromium; 0.3% sulfur; 0.2% nitrogen; 0.2% nickel; 0.25% niobium and / or cobalt; 0.9% silicon; 0.02% carbon; 0.02% phosphorus; 0.4% of manganese, the rest being essentially iron.
- the steel alloy described here not only has magnetic shielding properties but also has good machinability, corrosion resistance and ductility properties.
- the proposed steel alloy can also be polished and / or finished to an acceptable aesthetic standard, for example so as to be eligible for the Hallmark of Geneva, while having a price that remains reasonable.
- a watch that enters a magnetic field of a few hundred amperes per meter (A / m) may stop. Indeed, steel alloy parts included and the movement, such as the exhaust, are likely to become magnetized. Three different effects can be distinguished: the residual effect, which is the difference in gait before and after the passage in the magnetic field; the temporary effect, which is the variation of walking during field exposure; and the stopping effect.
- the watch According to NIHS (NIHS 90-10), the watch must not stop in a field of 4800 A / m, and the residual effect should not exceed 30 seconds per day (s / d) for a watch are the movement has a diameter greater than 20 mm and 45 s / d for a smaller watch.
- Table 1 compares different materials, including the steel alloy according to the preferred embodiment described above of the invention, on the basis of the effects mentioned above.
- the different materials have been used for the component serving as a magnetic "shielding" for the movement of the watch.
- the use of brass results in the shutdown for a field of 4800 A / m, a residual effect which exceeds the value of 30 s / d and a temporary effect of 30 s / d for a weak field ( 1000 A / m).
- other materials have properties for magnetic shielding.
- the steel alloy of the invention has a lower residual effect (3.1 s / d) than that of the other materials tested.
- Table 2 compares the same materials as those in Table 1 according to industrial criteria such as the price of the material, machinability, aging and whether or not the Reach standard is met. Machinability is classified into three levels: 1 (easy), 2 (medium) and 3 (difficult) and aging according to whether there is corrosion, oxidation, or neither (-). It is found that the steel alloy of the invention is not only advantageous from the point of view of the magnetic shielding properties but also has good machinability, good aging properties, a relatively low price and meets Reach standards.
- a clock component is constituted in the steel alloy of the invention.
- the watch component is included inside a watch case, so that the component plays a role of magnetic shielding for the movement of the watch.
- the figure 1 is a side sectional view of a watch case 1 enclosing a mechanical or electronic movement 2.
- the watch case comprises a caseband 3, an ice cream 4 and a bottom 5.
- the caseband 3 is circular. It could, however, be any other suitable form.
- a frame 10 of the movement 2 in which is mounted a winding stem 8 carrying a ring 9.
- the movement 5 is held in the middle part by the casing elements comprising a casing ring 6.
- a dial 7 visible through the glass 4 conceals at least part of the movement 2.
- Other elements of the watch for example needles, push buttons, bracelet horns, etc., are not visible on this cut or have not been represented for the sake of simplicity.

Abstract
Description
- entre 16% et 20% de chrome;
- entre 0.05% et 0.5% de souffre;
- entre 0.1 % et 0.3% d'azote;
- entre 0.1 % et 0.3% de nickel;
- entre 0.1 % et 0.3% de niobium et/ou de cobalt;
- au plus 1 % de silicium;
