Definitions
- the present invention relates to the general field of packaging, and in particular that of metal lids for a container of the kind can. It relates more particularly to metal caps of the type comprising a removable part which is delimited by a line of initiation of rupture and which is equipped with an opening member, according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a cover is disclosed by the document US 2007/131693 A1 .
- Some metal containers mainly canning cans for food packaging, are equipped with an "easy” opening system (or “EOE” for "Easy Open End”), avoiding the use of type can opener.
- EAE Easy Opening System
- the breaking initiation line is torn by manipulation of an opening member carried by the central panel, commonly known as the "opening ring”.
- the opening member is pressed against the upper surface of the central panel.
- the user For opening, the user is led to maneuver the opening member in two successive and distinct steps.
- the user grasps the opening member, generally by its central gripping portion, and then away from the central portion.
- the opening member then forms a lever, so that its peripheral portion of incision in the form of a beak causes a local breakage of the breaking initiation line.
- This rotational maneuver leads to the tearing of two upstream portions, on either side of the longitudinal axis of the opening member.
- the removable portion of the lid is then folded locally inward, along a virtual axis which is oriented perpendicularly, or approximately perpendicularly, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the opening member.
- a second opening step the user exerts traction on the opening member so as to continue tearing the tear initiation line and dissociate all or part of the removable portion relative to the cover.
- the opening member thus allows the transmission of the force applied by the user, and the energy generated, to the removable portion of the metal cover, so as to ensure the tearing of the metal along the primer line. a break.
- this depression is of the order of 600 to 700 mbar for canned corn, and of the order of 850 to 900 mbar for canned vegetables steamed.
- the rupture of the equilibrium holding the removable part in place is likely to generate a propagation of the tear of the rupture initiation line, because of the tearing force which is relatively low once it has been removed. There was initiation of tearing of this line of initiation of rupture.
- Such a structure then generates a punctual blocking of the opening during the tearing of the upstream portions of the breaking initiation line.
- the increase in hardness of the material, and / or the reduction of the thicknesses used for the cover can show an influence of the rolling direction.
- the tear is likely not to propagate along the breaking initiation line, as desired, but in the central panel shutter.
- the Applicant has developed a new structure of metal lid with easy opening, which also makes it possible not to punctually block the opening during the tearing of the upstream portions of the breaking initiation line, but to regulate gradually the energy used for this tear.
- the central portion comprises a removable portion which is delimited by a breaking initiation line having a variable residual thickness and which is equipped with an opening member.
- This opening member comprises, on either side of a fixing portion with the removable portion, a peripheral incision portion and a central gripping portion.
- the upstream and downstream portions are formed on either side of a virtual axis extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the opening member, said corresponding virtual axis at the fold line generated on the removable portion following a pivoting of said opening member and the tearing of said upstream portions.
- the second portion extends over at least 20%, preferably at least 25%, more preferably between 25% and 60% of the length of said upstream portion.
- the structure of the breaking initiation line according to the invention thus makes it possible to engage on second sections, the tear of which will continue to be progressively made and at a greater level of effort.
- the present invention also relates to a container, in particular of the metal cans type, equipped with a metal lid as defined above.
- the present invention further relates to a method for manufacturing a lid according to the invention, which method comprises a step of incising the breaking initiation line in said lid, by means of an incision tool comprising a upper member (for example an incision block) and a lower member (for example an anvil) each carrying a profile.
- an incision tool comprising a upper member (for example an incision block) and a lower member (for example an anvil) each carrying a profile.
- the present invention also relates to the installation for the manufacture of a metal cover according to the invention, comprising an incision tool to provide the rupture initiation line, which incision tool comprises an upper member (for example a incision block) and a lower member (for example an anvil), each having an incision profile.
- incision tool comprises an upper member (for example a incision block) and a lower member (for example an anvil), each having an incision profile.
- the incision position profiles define, between them, a space of variable width to generate the upstream portions of the breaking initiation line according to the invention.
- the metal cover 1, shown on the figure 1 is intended to be assembled on the upper edge of a metal container body (not shown).
- This container body generally consists of a bottom associated with the lower edge of a sidewall belt (circular section, square, rectangular, etc.).
- connection between the metal lid 1 and the upper edge of this container body is carried out in the usual manner, for example by a crimping technique.
- This metal cover 1 is of the "easy open” type (or “EOE” for "Easy Open End”), avoiding the use of tools such as openers.
- This metal cover 1 is advantageously made monobloc by a stamping technique, that from a sheet metal material (preferably aluminum, steel, etc.).
- the peripheral portion 3 is here ring-shaped or ring-shaped. It is adapted for fixing the metal cover 1, advantageously by crimping, on the upper edge of a container body having a cylindrical side wall.
- peripheral portion 3 may have any other shape (for example square, rectangular), which would be adapted to the section of the container body (if any parallelepipedic).
- the distance between these two faces 21, 22 corresponds to the nominal thickness N of the central portion 2 ( figure 2 ).
- This nominal thickness N of the central portion 2 is for example between 0.14 and 0.28 mm, preferably between 0.16 and 0.25 mm.
- the central portion 2 comprises a removable portion 4 intended to constitute the access opening to the contents of the container.
- the removable part 4 is, on the one hand, delimited by a breaking initiation line 5, also called “incision line” and, on the other hand, equipped with an opening member 6.
- the opening member 6 is formed at the upper face 21 of the central part 2, covering the removable part 4 ( figure 1 ).
- this opening member 6 by a user will allow easy opening of the metal cover 1, that is to say a total or partial disengagement, the removable part 4 by tearing the primer line of rupture 5.
- opening member 6 which is well known, is also known by the name of "opening ring”.
- the breaking initiation line 5 consists of a thinning of material, constituting a structure of lesser resistance.
- This line of initiation of rupture 5 is here complete (closed), and advantageously of circular form ( figure 1 ). Alternatively, it could be partial (for example in an arc) and / or have any other shape (square, rectangular for example).
- the upper surface 51 of this breaking initiation line 5 is formed by an upper groove 53 formed in the upper face 21 of the central portion 2.
- This breaking initiation line 5 could also be formed, alternately or additionally, by a groove 54 which would be formed in the lower face 22 of the central portion 2 (as schematically illustrated in FIG. figure 2 in broken lines). Where appropriate, this lower groove 54 then forms the lower surface 52 of the breaking initiation line 5.
- the two upstream portions 55 extend on either side of the longitudinal axis 6 'of the opening member 6.
- Each upstream portion 55, on the one hand, and the downstream portion 56, on the other hand, are here separated by a virtual axis 10 represented on the figure 1 .
- the virtual axis 10 corresponds, at least approximately, to the fold line generated on the removable part 4 following the pivoting of the opening member 6.
- this virtual axis 10 extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis 6 'of the opening member 6.
- This virtual axis 10 advantageously passes, at least approximately, at the level of the fixing portion 8.
- each upstream portion 55 of the breaking initiation line 5 comprises, on its length, a specific evolution of its residual thickness E.
- the upper groove 53 and / or the lower groove 54 thus have a variable depth at each upstream portion 55 of the breaking initiation line 5 to define this residual thickness E variable.
- each section 551, 552 and 553 of the upstream portion 55 each form a bearing.
- Each section 551, 552 and 553 of the upstream portion 55 thus has a residual thickness E1 , E2 , E3 , respectively, constant along its length L1 , L2 , L3 .
- the residual thickness E2 of the second section 552 is greater than the residual thickness E1 , E3 of the first section 551 and the third section 553, respectively.
- the first section 551 and the third section 553 of the upstream portion 55 additionally have residual thicknesses E1 , E3 that are identical relative to one another.
- the residual thickness E1 , E3 of these first section 551 and third section 553 is advantageously identical, or at least approximately identical, to the majority residual thickness E4 of the downstream portion 56.
- major residual thickness is meant in particular the residual thickness E4 of the downstream portion 56 over its entire length or practically its entire length, excluding any point segments having a residual thickness variation E aimed at master his tear.
- the first section 551 and the third section 553 of the upstream portion 55 have residual thicknesses E1 , E3 of between 45 and 80 ⁇ m for steel metal covers.
- the residual thickness E2 of the second section 552 comprises an additional residual thickness E2 ' , with respect to the residual thickness E1 , E3 of the first section 551 and the third section 553.
- this additional residual thickness E2 ' is between 10 and 50 ⁇ m, preferably between 15 and 35 ⁇ m.
- the second section 552 extends over a length L2 corresponding to at least 20%, preferably at least 25%, more preferably 25% to 60%, of the length L of this upstream portion 55.
- the upstream end 5521 is advantageously located at a distance from the initial point A.
- the downstream end 5522 is formed here within the upstream portion 55, away from the end point B.
- this downstream end 5522 of the second section 552 could be located at the end point B of the upstream portion 55, connected directly with one end of the downstream portion 56 of the breaking initiation line 5.
- the upstream end 5521 and the downstream end 5522 here consist of a sudden change in the residual thickness.
- the upstream end 5521 of the second section 552 is advantageously at a distance of between 3 and 8 mm from the initial point A of the upstream portion 55 (corresponding to the length L1 of the first section 551).
- the two upstream portions 55 of the breaking initiation line 5 advantageously extend symmetrically on either side of the longitudinal axis 6 'of the opening member 6.
- the user operates the opening member 6 in two successive and distinct operations.
- the user grasps the opening member 6, generally by its central gripping portion 9, and then moves it away from the central portion 2.
- the opening member 6 then forms a lever, the incision-shaped peripheral portion 7 in the form of a beak causes a local break of the breaking initiation line 5, within the first section 551 of the two upstream portions 55.
- This tear propagates along the two upstream portions 55, on either side of the longitudinal axis 6 'of the opening member 6, towards their respective end points B.
- the tear then continues within the second two sections 552 of the upstream portions 55, in a progressive manner and at a greater level of effort.
- This mechanism allows a slowing of the opening speed, during which a pressure equalization is carried out between the interior of the container and the environment, without risk of collapse of the lid.
- the removable part 4 of the cover 1 is then folded locally inwards along the virtual axis 10.
- a second opening step in a conventional manner, the user pulls on the opening member 6 so as to continue the tearing of the breaking initiation line 5, in particular its downstream portion 56, and to dissociate all or part of the removable part 4 with respect to the lid 1.
- a metal cover 1 according to the invention can be obtained through a method comprising a step of incising the breaking initiation line 5 in the cover 1, by means of an incising tool 12 as represented schematically on the figure 4 .
- Such an incision tool 12 comprises an upper member 121, for example an incision block, and a lower member 122, for example an anvil.
- the upper member 121 and the lower member 122 have profiles 1211 and 1221 facing each other, to define the section of the breaking initiation line 5.
- the geometry of the profile 1211, 1221 of the incision block 121 and / or of the anvil 122 acts on the residual thickness E of the breaking initiation line 5.
- the profile 1211 of the upper member 121 constitutes an incision profile intended to conform the upper groove 53 of the breaking initiation line 5.
- the incision profile 1211 of the upper member 121 has a profile complementary to that of the each of upstream portion 55, with in particular a reservation 1212 intended to define the second section 552 of the breaking initiation line 5.
- the method for manufacturing a lid 1 according to the invention firstly comprises the provision of a lid to be incised.
- the profiles 1211, 1221 of said incision tool 121 are brought together by a translation movement, to generate the upper and / or lower grooves 54 in the central part 2 of the cover 1.
- the profiles 1211, 1221 thus define, between them, a space of variable width along the length of said profiles, which is complementary to the residual thickness E of the breaking initiation line 5, for generate in particular the sections 551, 552 and 553 of the upstream portions 55 of the breaking initiation line 5.
- Variants of Figures 6 and 7 differ from the structure described above in relation to the Figures 1 to 3 by the structure of the upstream ends 5521 and downstream 5522 of the second section 552.
- these ends 5521, 5522 consist of straight slopes, respectively upward and downward.
- this variation in thickness takes place over a length of between 0.3 and 0.7 mm.
- downstream end 5522 extends over a longer length than the length of the upstream end 5521.
- This structural characteristic has the advantage of softening the variation of effort felt by the consumer.
- the upstream end 5521 has a discontinuous gradual variation of the residual thickness E.
- this upstream end 5521 has the shape of a staircase or a succession of bearings.
- This structural characteristic also has the advantage of softening the variation of effort felt by the consumer.
- Variants of Figures 8 to 12 differ from the structure described above in relation to the Figures 1 to 3 by a residual thickness E2 variable of the second section 552.
- the additional residual thickness E2 ' corresponds to the maximum residual thickness of this second section 552.
- the second section 552 comprises a continuous progressive variation of the residual thickness E2 , with an increasing linear slope greater than a decreasing linear slope.
- the second section 552 comprises a continuous progressive variation of the residual thickness E2 , with an increasing linear slope that is identical, or at least approximately identical, to the decreasing linear slope.
- the second section 552 has a variation of curved thickness, for example in an arc.
- the second section 552 has a thickness variation of generally oscillating shape, broken on the figure 11 and curve on the figure 12 .
- the residual thickness E2 of the second section 552 oscillates between a minimum value E21 and a maximum value E22 which both remain greater than the residual thickness E1 , E3 of the first and third sections 551, 553.
- the lid structure according to the invention has the advantage of preserving an ease of opening, while offering an effective solution to the risk of implosion at the opening and the risk of tearing of the removable part due to its rolling direction.
- the cover structure according to the invention makes it possible, for the same thickness of the cover and of the breaking initiation line, to have an increased resistance to implosion compared to a system of the "flat arrester" type.
