Definitions

  • the invention relates to the opening of thin packages, typically made of plastic.
  • a tear primer typically in the form of a pre-cut tongue. But it appeared that, when tearing a fragile film by pulling on such a pre-cut tongue, the sides thereof tend to converge towards one another during the tear, which results in a detachment of a simple tapered flap, so that one must look for a new tear initiation, which results in the tearing of a new flap, and so on.
  • the document LU91 221 A2 shows a pocket with a rupture primer opening in an area capable of trapping the tear.
  • the invention aims to meet this objective and proposes for this purpose a thin packaging film comprising the characteristics defined in claim 1.
  • the spiral thus traversed by tearing of the film in its fragile part is of exponential shape and continues to the edges of the face formed by the packaging film (and no longer a line as in the known solutions); yet the force to be applied for the propagation of the tear remains substantially constant while being moderate.
  • the gripping portion has the shape of a tongue, which facilitates the lifting and then the grip on this gripping portion; alternatively, this gripping portion may be provided with an attached pull.
  • the closed contour of the reference zone is lined internally by a material having a lower tear resistance than that of the tearable zone surrounding this closed contour.
  • this reference zone is an opening whose edge constitutes the closed contour; this closed contour is advantageously rounded, even circular, which allows a regular behavior of the film during tearing.
  • the closed contour of the reference zone is internally lined by a reinforcing material having a higher tear strength than that of the tear-off zone.
  • the closed contour of the reference zone is lined internally by a loop of said reinforcing material which is traversed by the tear initiation; for example, the reference zone comprises an opening lined externally by said loop; alternatively, the reference zone comprises a median zone surrounded by said loop, this median zone preferably having the same resistance to tearing as the tear-off zone surrounding the closed contour (that is to say that the loop may be a loop referred to the film packaging, thus separating the inner and outer areas of the same film).
  • the reference zone is formed entirely of this reinforcing material.
  • tear initiation crosses the contour into the reference zone, when this is materialized.
  • This reinforcing material is advantageously chosen as being plastic (thus little tearable).
  • the tear primer has an outer end (intended to propagate outside the contour ) which is located so that the tangent at this point to said tear initiation is substantially perpendicular to a tangent to the closed contour passing through that point.
  • the outline need not represent a significant fraction of the packaging film surface to be removed; thus, the inner surface of the contour may be less than 10%, or even less than 5% (or even 1%) of the packaging surface of said film.
  • the tear initiation has a length of between 0.5 cm and 3 cm. cm and / or the closed contour has a mean transverse dimension of between 1 and 3 centimeters.
  • the rounded closed contour has a generally circular shape, which ensures a regular behavior of the film during tearing.
  • FIGS. 1 to 3 together represent a first example of a thin packaging film according to the invention, with a first form of tear initiation.
  • This thin film of which a portion is represented under the reference 1, has an opening 2 whose closed contour is rounded.
  • this opening has a circular contour, but it can alternatively not shown, be oval, or have three (or more) rounded vertices.
  • this contour is as close as possible to a circular shape, i.e. it has a radius of curvature as constant as possible (at at most, at a point marked A 0 - see below).
  • This thin film is of any known type suitable, both from the point of view of material constituting the point of view of thickness; for example, it is a polypropylene thin film for example bioriented (especially BOPP type) having a thickness of a few hundredths of a millimeter, optionally metallized.
  • the thin film 1 comprises, starting from a point A 0 of the contour, a breaking primer 3 constituted by a cut of limited length, denoted by A 0 B 0 , starting from the contour in any orientation.
  • this cutout 3 The function of this cutout 3 is to delimit, together with the contour of the opening 2, a gripping portion 4 adapted to be gripped between the fingers of a user.
  • the tear initiation 3 is substantially tangent to the contour of the opening, at A 0 , so that the gripping portion constitutes a tongue, even before the transverse traction is begun to be applied to it. on the plane of the film.
  • This gripping portion is delimited on one side by the tear primer 3 (which will be able to propagate) and on the other side by the contour 2 (which will, at first, trap the displacement of the end internal of the primer - see below).
  • the figure 2 represents the packaging film in a starting configuration in which the tab, initially located in the plane of the film 1, has been raised, by the fingers of a user, in a direction substantially perpendicular to this plane.
  • This straightening of the tongue spontaneously results in the formation of a fold 5 (that is to say a very weak zone).
  • radius of curvature extending substantially from the outer end of the tear initiation A 0 B 0 , that is, from the point Bo, to the contour 2 being tangent thereto (the point of tangency in this starting configuration is noted C 0 ).
  • This configuration taken spontaneously by the tongue, has the advantage that, if the tongue is pulled so as to move it away from the plane of the film, a tear 3A occurs in the extension of the initial tearing primer A 0 B 0 while the zone 5 of small radius of curvature (which is here a fold) moves in the film, extending from the new end B of the tear line to the contour while tending to be tangent to this one at a point C (B and C designate the current positions of the ends of the fold).
  • the direction of traction is as perpendicular as possible to the plane of the film, but practice has shown that this is not critical (for example, a difference of about ten degrees is quite acceptable (a traction by the fingers of an operator is usually not exactly perpendicular to the plane of the film)).
  • the continuation of the pulling of the tongue actually results in the propagation of the tear 3 in a spiral curve until reaching an edge of the film.
  • the packaging film can then be removed in one piece.
  • the contour of the opening 2 is rounded, at least outside the point A 0 . Indeed, an angular point of this contour, the tip of which would be oriented towards the outside of the opening, would be likely to constitute, because of the stresses applied to the tongue, a rupture primer which would reveal a second line of tearing , inadvertent, which could converge, until intercepted, to line 3.
  • the tear primer 3 it is also advantageous if there is no angular point in the tearing primer 3 having its point directed outwardly since, after passing through the point A 0 , the fold 5 tends to stay tangent to the new edge constituted by the tear initiation 3 and then the tear 3A.
  • the simplest is to give the tear primer a shape devoid of any sharp point.
  • the tear line 3A propagates beyond B 0 in the extension of the tear primer 3, so that when the fold 5 reaches the point B 0 , after the propagation of the tear on a turn being tangent to the edge constituted by the tear primer 3A, it crosses while remaining tangent to the tear 3A which started from B 0 .
  • the tear initiation 3 is cut in such a way that the angle formed at B 0 by the tangent to this tear initiation and the tangent to the opening 2 passing through this point B 0 (that is B 0 C 0 ) is greater than or equal to 90 °.
  • the angle formed by the tear initiation with contour 2 is arbitrary.
  • this primer 3 is conformed to a tangent to the contour 2 (if it is rounded, preferably circular), the tongue thus formed is narrow, so that it is advantageous if this tongue has a sufficient length. to minimize the risk that, at the beginning of the propagation of the tear from the point B 0 , this tear converges to the contour 2 in the case of a lack of control of the orientation of the traction applied to this tab.
  • the tear initiation it may therefore seem preferable to conform the tear initiation so that it has a non-zero angle with the tangent local contour, that is to say, it is not tangent to this contour; on the other hand, if this angle increases, the width of the tongue increases, but it is preferable (see above) to bend this tear initiation so as to turn its concavity towards the inside of the opening.
  • the Figures 4 to 6 thus represent a variant of Figures 1 to 3 ; elements similar to those of these figures are designated by reference signs which are deduced from those of Figures 1 to 3 by adding the premium index.
  • the film 1 ' is distinguished by the fact that the tear initiation 3' extends from the edge of the point A 0 ', on the contour of the opening 2', at an angle substantially equal to 90 ° i.e., the primer 3 'is, near this point A 0 ', substantially perpendicular to the local tangent.
  • this primer 3 ' is curved, with a curvature such that, at the point B 0 ', its tangent is substantially perpendicular to the direction of the fold 5 '(between the points B 0 ' and C 0 ') which is formed as soon as traction is applied to the tongue perpendicular to the plane of the film.
  • this traction results in a propagation of the tear, beyond B 0 ', in the extension of this primer, so that it does not appear angular point at this point B 0 '. After one turn of this fold, it passes without difficulty this point B 0 '.
  • this section A 0 B 0 (or A 0 'B 0 ') is in practice chosen so as to allow easy grasping, by the fingers of a user, of the tongue delimited by this cut and the outline of the 'opening ; a length of the order of 0.5 cm to 1 cm (or even 1.5 cm or even 3 cm) is a range that seems quite appropriate for openings 2 or 2 'having a mean transverse dimension (it is a diameter if these openings are actually circular) of a few centimeters (typically between 1 and 3 cm).
  • the dimensions of the spiral then obtained by traction on this tongue are large enough to ensure a reasonably rapid release (in a reasonable number of turns) of the film vis-à-vis the product it is used to pack. Of course, larger dimensions are possible.
  • the opening 2 (or 2 ') is likely to locally constitute a defect in the protection of the product provided by the packaging film; indeed, dust, in particular, can penetrate to the product through the film via this opening.
  • this disadvantage can easily be eliminated by providing, under the film, or above it, protection located in the area comprising this opening.
  • the ease of gripping can be improved by engaging an additional strip of any suitable material forming a pull tab.
  • FIGS. 7 to 9 represent another embodiment of a packaging thin film according to the invention, which does not have the disadvantage of such a potential protection fault.
  • these figures represent a thin packaging film 11 comprising a reference zone 12 whose closed contour 12A is rounded and in which a tongue 14 is pre-cut.
  • An edge of this tongue is a tear initiation 13 constituted by a cut of limited length, denoted E 0 F 0 ; this tongue forms, when pulled away from the plane of the thin packaging film, a fold 15.
  • the thin film 11 is different from that of the Figures 1 to 3 in that, instead of interrupting along the contour of the opening 2, it extends into the zone 12, the latter being bordered by a loop of reinforcing material 16, which runs along the contour 12A inwardly.
  • the tear initiation 13 extends from the internal contour of the loop 16 (from the point marked E 0 ), through this loop to the point G 0 located on the contour 12A, and outside of this one up to the point F 0 .
  • a second tear initiation 17 is advantageously provided along the inner contour of the loop 16 from the point E 0 , to a point noted H 0 .
  • the tongue 14 can thus be straightened with respect to the plane of the thin film without any effort.
  • this tear primer 17 may be omitted, the passage of a nail (or any other tool) through the precut E 0 F 0 being sufficient to cause a tear beginning along the inner contour of the loop 16.
  • the internal contour of the loop 16 behaves, when pulling on the tongue, as the edge of the opening 2.
  • the tear 17 has been precut or it appeared during the passage of a nail through the primer E 0 F 0 tear, this tear 17 can only propagate along the inner edge of the loop 16, since it can not cross this loop (since it is made of reinforcement, it is easier for the tear 17 to propagate in the film, inside the loop 16, than to cross this loop).
  • the inner end of the tongue is, at least at the beginning of the propagation of the tear, trapped inside the contour 12A, along the inner contour of the loop 16.
  • the invention is not limited to any angle value between the tear initiation and the outer contour of the reinforced zone.
  • This loop 16 is for example made of an extra thickness consisting of the same material as the thin film. It may also be polyethylene, polypropylene (possibly bioriented), or even metal, in particular.
  • This loop is advantageously attached to the thin film under it, so as not to risk clinging before the time when the film must be removed. It has been found that this arrangement does not affect the strength of the connection between this loop and the thin film, during the application of traction on the tongue.
  • This loop is advantageously annular in which case its average transverse dimension is a diameter; this average transverse dimension is advantageously of the order of one centimeter, for example included between 1 cm and 3 cm, as before. It is understood that, given this small size, it is much easier to set up such a loop that to set up a strip along a desired tear line, as in known solutions.
  • the width of the loop (that is to say the width of the reinforcing strip constituting this loop) is advantageously of the order of a few millimeters, for example between 1 and 5 mm (this may depend on the constituent material; the stronger the material is, the less important the width needs to be).
  • the dimensions can be much larger; it is up to the person skilled in the art to choose appropriate dimensions according to the intended application (in particular the dimensions of the packaged product).
  • FIGS. 10 to 12 represent a variant of Figures 7 to 9 . Elements similar to those of these figures are designated by reference signs which are deduced from those of Figures 7 to 9 by the addition of the "premium" index.
  • the reinforcing material is not limited to a loop within the contour 12A, but extends over the entire zone 12; in other words this reinforcing material is in the form of a disk, with a circular contour or not (it can be a massive zone of any contour).
  • this reinforcing material is sufficiently undrillable, the fact of applying traction to the gripping portion defined by the primer causes propagation of the only end that can be propagated, namely the external end located at the end.
  • this trapping effect ceases as soon as, as in the case of Figures 7 to 12 this reinforcing zone begins to bend, in which case the tear continues, while the fold of the tongue rotates while remaining tangent to the tear 13A, continuing the spiral that has begun to form.
  • the thin film has a greater resistance than the vacuum located inside the contour 2 (the edge of the opening constituted by this vacuum confines the propagation of the inner end of the tear primer) while in a second example the outline is internally lined by a reinforcing material which also confines the inner end of the tear primer.
  • the contour is lined internally by a reinforcing material, which has the shape of a loop, the residual part, inside this loop can be an opening without material.
