Definitions
- the invention relates to a multi-chamber shower head with a housing in which at least a first and a second fluid chamber are formed, which are separated by a partition, a fluid supply control unit for selectively supplying fluid to each of the fluid chambers and the housing on a fluid outlet side final jet disk having at least a first and a second group of one or more jet outlets, wherein the first group is in fluid communication with the first fluid chamber and the second group is in fluid communication with the second fluid chamber.
- Such multi-chamber showerheads are used in particular for sanitary showers to allow the user to set different Effervescent characteristics for the exiting from the shower head water jet.
- the patent US 7,100,845 B1 discloses such a showerhead in which a central group of jet outlets provide a massage jet and a group of jet outlets surrounding it in a ring shape has a softer jet exit characteristic. Accordingly, the central group of jet outlet openings are in fluid communication with a central fluid chamber behind the jet disk and the other group of jet outlet openings with a fluid chamber annularly surrounding the central fluid chamber behind the jet disk.
- supplied water can be selectively directed into one or the other or into both fluid chambers, so that it emerges from one or the other or from both groups of jet outlet openings.
- the publication DE 103 13 822 A1 discloses another such shower head, in which a space behind the jet disk is divided by an annular shoulder in a central fluid chamber and a fluid chamber surrounding this annular. By an axial movement of the annular shoulder relative to the jet disk, the subdivision be lifted so that optionally shower water exits only from a central region of the jet disk or from the entire area of the jet disk.
- the user can set whether shower water should escape only from the central jet outlet openings or in addition from the annular central jet outlet openings or out of all jet outlet openings of the jet disk by by appropriately reversible water flow the water only in the central fluid chamber or only in the annular central fluid chamber or only into the outer annular fluid chamber is introduced.
- the invention is based on the technical problem of providing a multi-chamber shower head of the type mentioned, in a novel and advantageous manner either the fluid supply to the first, but not the second group of jet outlets or both the first and the second group of Beam outlet openings possible.
- the invention solves this problem by providing a multi-chamber shower head with the features of claim 1.
- this multi-chamber shower head according to the invention adjoins the second fluid chamber at least partially on that side of the first fluid chamber, which faces away from the jet disk to the first fluid chamber, such that an overlap region is formed in which the first fluid chamber is located in a direction perpendicular to the jet disk between the second fluid chamber and the jet disk.
- the partition which is the first and the second fluid chamber is kept separate from each other, has in the overlap region at least one passage opening, which is associated with a check valve element for fluid pressure controlled closing and opening.
- the passage opening is closed or opened by the check valve element, depending on the fluid pressures prevailing in the first and second fluid chamber, in order accordingly to shut off or release a fluid connection between the two fluid chambers.
- the passage opening is located in the said overlap area and the fluid with opened passage opening directly from the overlap region of the second fluid chamber lying there behind the first fluid chamber seen from the jet disk forward, that is the direction of the jet disk, in the first Fluid chamber can flow to leave from there in turn forward the jet disk via the associated jet outlet openings.
- the fluid may thus be substantially parallel to a showerhead axial direction e.g. from the second into the first fluid chamber and need not be passed transversely to the axial direction of a radially adjacent to the first fluid chamber arranged portion of the second fluid chamber in the first fluid chamber. This can bring fluidic and structural advantages with it.
- the check valve element is adapted to open its associated passage opening at an overpressure in the second fluid chamber with respect to the first fluid chamber. Preferably, it closes automatically or at an overpressure in the second fluid chamber with respect to the first fluid chamber. This has the consequence that fluid can flow in the overlap region of the second into the first fluid chamber with a corresponding overpressure, while otherwise a transfer of fluid from the first to the second fluid chamber is avoided.
- the shower head can be operated in at least two modes of operation, a first mode in which the fluid exits only from belonging to the first fluid chamber jet outlet openings of the jet disk, and a second mode in which the fluid exits from all the beam outlet openings, with the first and second fluid chambers are associated.
- the check valve element is formed by a mushroom head element held on the dividing wall with an elastic mushroom-sealing edge.
- the elastic mushroom-sealing edge acts in this case as a fluid-pressure-controlled movable element for closing and opening the at least one associated passage opening.
- a plurality of passages arranged around a holder of the mushroom-head element are provided in the dividing wall, which passages can be shut off and opened together by the mushroom-headed sealing edge.
- the second group of jet outlet openings has at least one jet outlet opening, which is in fluid communication with the second fluid chamber via a connecting channel which extends through the first fluid chamber in the overlapping area.
- the invention allows a compression of the jet image of the fluid jet emerging from the jet disk, when the fluid exits not only via the first fluid chamber from the associated first group of jet outlet openings, but also via the second fluid chamber from the second group of jet outlet openings.
- one or more jet outlet openings of the second jet outlet opening group are arranged outside the jet disk area, in which the first group of jet outlet openings is located, for example radially outside this last-mentioned area.
- the in the Fig. 1 to 3 shown multi-chamber shower head can be used for example for a sanitary shower spray, such as a so-called overhead shower.
- the shower head has a housing 1, which is closed off at a front side, ie a fluid outlet side, by a jet disk 2.
- the jet disk 2 is held on the housing 1 in a conventional manner.
- a connecting piece 3 extends upwardly or rearwardly centrally out of the housing 1, parallel to a defined by a longitudinal center axis 4 of the shower head axial direction.
- the longitudinal center axis 4 extends substantially perpendicular to the slightly curved, substantially planar jet disk 2.
- the connecting piece 3 receives a ball joint body 5, through which the shower head can be attached to a permanently installed eg on the building side fluid or water connection, so that the housing. 1 ball joint pivotally remains.
- a fluid inlet 6 extends centrally and longitudinally through the ball joint body 5 into a fluid distribution chamber 7 of the shower head.
- the jet disk 2 is provided with a central opening in which an axially actuable push button 8 is accommodated, which is part of a user-controllable indexing device for the cyclic indexing of a valve closing member 9 rotatably mounted about the longitudinal center axis 4 of the shower head.
- the indexing device one of the pushbutton 8 axially actuated against spring bias, centric pin 10 and a suitable indexing mechanism for axially lifting the trained in the example as a dumbbell valve disc valve body 9, to rotate the same in the next valve position and for lowering the same.
- a switching mechanism is known in the art and therefore requires no further explanation.
- the jet disk 2 is provided in a manner known per se with a plurality of jet outlet openings, which in the example shown form a first group 12a of jet outlet openings and a second group 12b of jet outlet openings.
- the first group of jet outlets 12a is in fluid communication with a first fluid chamber 13
- the second group of jet outlets 12b is in fluid communication with a second fluid chamber 14.
- a lining 11 made of an elastomeric material is attached, which forms in the region of the jet outlet openings 12a, 12b respective hollow jet outlet nipple 15, which extends from the base surface of the lining 11 through corresponding outlet openings of the jet disk 2 and somewhat more extend out and define the actual jet outlet openings 12a, 12b of the jet disk 2 with its hollow channel.
- a housing intermediate wall 16 delimits the second fluid chamber 14 toward the interior of the housing and is connected on the circumference to an axially inward-pointing retaining projection 2a of the jet disk 2 and to the lining 11.
- a partition wall 17 between the housing intermediate wall 16 and the jet disk 2 delimits the two fluid chambers 13, 14 from each other.
- the partition wall 17 extends radially from the inside to the outside substantially parallel to the jet disk 2 and the housing intermediate wall 16, wherein it is radially shorter than the housing intermediate wall 16 and with a peripheral shoulder 17a sealingly abuts against an annular, rear sealing projection 11a of the elastomer liner 11, so the first fluid chamber 13 is fluid-separated from the second fluid chamber 14 even in this peripheral area.
- the first jet outlet openings 12a are located radially within the region of the first fluid chamber 13 directly behind it and supplied with fluid, while the second jet outlet openings 12b are located radially outside of the first fluid chamber 13 in an annular area surrounding this inner area, in which the second Fluid chamber 14 extends with a radially outer ring portion 14a.
- the second jet outlet openings 12b are thus fluid-fed by this radially outer ring section 14a of the second fluid chamber 14 located directly behind it.
- One surrounded by this radially outer ring portion 14a The remaining, central region 14b of the second fluid chamber 14 lies above or behind the first fluid chamber 13, wherein it is separated axially from the latter by the partition wall 17.
- the second fluid chamber 14 adjoins the first fluid chamber 13 in a corresponding overlap region with its middle chamber section or chamber region 14b on the side of the first fluid chamber 13 facing away from the jet disk 2.
- partition wall 17 has at least one passage opening 18, which is associated with a check valve element 19 for fluid pressure-controlled closing and opening of the passage opening 18.
- Fig. 3 shows the shower head in a cross-section which extends through the second fluid chamber 14 and over the valve disc 9 substantially, so that in plan view of the fluid distribution chamber 7, the valve disc 9, the partition wall 17 and the radially outer portion 14a of the second fluid chamber 14 with the associated second jet outlet openings 12b can be seen.
- FIG. 3 how out Fig. 3 can be seen in the example shown, three check valve elements 19 evenly provided at 120 ° -Winkelabstand to the shower head longitudinal axis 4 on the partition wall 17, each check valve element 19 more passage openings 18 are assigned in the partition 17, which are opened and closed by him together and which are arranged around a central axis of the check valve member 19 around. In the example shown, these are each eight through openings 18 per check valve element 19. It is understood that in other embodiments of the invention, more or less than three check valve elements may be provided at any desired locations of the partition 17 and that per check valve any other number of ports in the partition can be formed, wherein it is also possible to assign different check valve elements to a different number of passage openings, which can be opened and closed by the relevant check valve element. In particular, this also includes the case of providing only a single check valve element on the dividing wall and / or forming only a single passage opening in the dividing wall.
- the check valve element 19 is formed in each case by a mushroom head element made of elastic material, which is held with a mushroom-shaped base 19a clasped in a receiving opening of the partition wall 17 and a mushroom-shaped protruding therefrom sealing edge 19b.
- the associated passage openings 18 are arranged in the partition 17 around the receiving opening for the mushroom head element 19 around and are of its elastic mushroom head 19 b in the closed position, as shown in the Fig. 1 and 4 is shown, sealingly covered and kept closed.
- the elastic mushroom head 19b lays against the partition 17 from below, ie from the side of the first fluid chamber 13.
- the mushroom check valve element 19 assumes this closed position as long as the second fluid chamber 14 is not subjected to fluid.
- valve disc 9 By pressing the push button 8, the user for the purpose of changing the shower spray characteristic, the valve disc 9 between a first, in Fig. 1 shown position and a second, in Fig. 2 switch shown position. In the first valve position, the valve disc 9 closes according to Fig. 1 a fluid supply port 20 leading from the distribution space 7 into the second fluid chamber 14. At the same time, it releases a fluid supply opening 21, which leads from the distribution space 7 into the first fluid chamber 13. Consequently, in this valve position the fluid supplied to the shower head is directed exclusively into the first fluid chamber 13 and accordingly exits only from the first jet outlet openings 12a. The second jet outlet openings 12b do not contribute to the jet pattern in this case.
- the valve disc 9 By pressing the button 8, the valve disc 9 from its position of Fig. 1 in the position of Fig. 2 in which it shuts off the supply opening 21 from the distribution space 7 into the first fluid chamber 13 and releases the supply opening 20 from the distribution space 7 into the second fluid chamber 14.
- the fluid supplied to the shower head passes into the second fluid chamber 14.
- the respective check valve element 19 is moved from its closed position into the open position Fig. 2 controlled and releases the associated passage openings 18.
- the elastic mushroom head 19b yields to the fluid pressure in the second fluid chamber 14 and lifts under elastic deformation the partition 17 from.
- the fluid supplied into the second fluid chamber 14 also flows into the first fluid chamber 13.
- Fig. 4 shows in a fragmentary detail of one of the mushroom check valve elements 19 and an environment area thereof.
- the partition wall 17 is supported by support pillars 17b formed thereon against the jet disk 2 or its inside lining 11.
- laxative second jet outlet openings are also provided in the overlap region of the second fluid chamber 14 with the first fluid chamber 13, in addition to the second jet outlet openings 12b outside the first fluid chamber 13.
- These additional second jet outlet openings are in the example of Fig. 4 are formed by respective connecting channels 12c which extend as hollow columnar bodies from the second fluid chamber 14 through the partition wall 17 and the first fluid chamber 13 to and through the jet disk 2.
- the additional second jet outlet openings 12c cause in the mode in which the fluid is supplied to the second fluid chamber 14, an additional jet compression in the middle, corresponding to the first fluid chamber 13 portion of the jet disk 2, since the fluid in this jet disk area from these additional second jet outlet openings 12c in addition to the first jet outlet openings 12a emerges.
- the invention provides a multi-chamber shower head, in which two fluid chambers via one or more passage openings in an axial overlap area fluid pressure controlled in fluid communication with each other or kept fluidly separated from each other, including the partition in the overlap region with a or a plurality of corresponding passage openings and one or more associated check valve elements is provided.
- the invention can be used, for example, for sanitary shower heads, such as sanitary overhead showerheads, but also for other applications in which two fluid chambers of a multi-chamber showerhead are to be selectively brought into fluid communication with one another or kept separate from each other.
