Description

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing books with Drahtkamm- or spiral binding or other comparable bindings, are collected in the partial layers of stamped sheets successively in a collection point on top of each other to a book, which is then bound.

In the production of writing pads, booklets, calendars or other books, it is known to assemble the books from partial layers that have been previously provided on one side with a series of punched holes. To bind the books, a wire comb or a spiral is guided through the punch holes. Such a method and such a device are in the DE-A-26 20 688 described. Other conventional devices and methods are known in US-B1-6447231 and EP-A1-1710096 disclosed. Usually, when collecting, the partial layers of a book for aligning the edges are moved against a stop. The thus-oriented books are then encouraged to bind.

In the design of a book, it is often desirable to include covers or intermediate sheets that protrude on three sides over other partial layers. This makes it relatively slow and expensive possible for a positionally accurate depositing the partial layers Gather align with a vertical stop. The layers can only be aligned with a stop at the trailing edge (spine, punched side), for this purpose the punched side must be in the direction of travel at the front. This makes it necessary to elaborate the situation before binding. The invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method and an apparatus of the generic type, which allows (with) to collect books with high speed and less expensive books with on three sides protruding lids or intermediate sheets positionally accurate.

This object is achieved according to the invention by a method according to claims 1- 4 and a device according to claims 5-9. The transport of a partial layer into the collection point and the removal of the book from the collection point preferably take place on conveyor belts. When removing a book from the collection this is held during acceleration additionally by a resting and moving mitel clamping band.

Preferably, the side tongs clamping a partial position carry out a horizontal movement from the position taking over a partial position up to the stacking point. This can be done by a circumferential or a reciprocating motion of a traction device, for example a toothed belt, to which one or more clamping tongs are attached. The clamps are in the transfer position on the Transport speed of the sub-stack accelerates and then keep the partial position clamped until it is completely decelerated at the collection point.

Advantageously, the clamps are designed so that a partial position is clamped independent of thickness by spring force. At standstill in the final position at the stacking point, the closed clamping jaw is mechanically opened by a lever so far until it automatically engages in the open state by means of a built-in latch. This position is self-locking due to the positive design. This construction has the advantage that no external additional clamping force for the clamping tongs must be exerted during the transport path.

The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to a simplified embodiment.

The apparatus shown in fragmentary form in the figures is part of a system in which books are made from paper rolls with wire combs or spirals. In the plant individual sheets are made from paper webs by transverse and longitudinal cutting, which are then collected to partial layers and provided by punching with a series of holes through which spirals or wire combs can be performed.

The partial layers are separated by interleaf sheets and then collected into a book, in addition a book cover and a spine were supplied. The exact position collected to a book partial layers are then bound by spirals or wire combs are passed through the punched holes in a known manner in a binding drum.

In the FIGS. 1 to 3 the collection point 3 is shown, in which the transported on conveyor belts 1 partial layers 2 are collected to a book 5. The leaves of a partial layer 2 have, at their rear side in the transport direction, a series of punched holes 4, through which a spiral or a wire comb is guided during binding of the book 5. To make this possible, the punching holes 4 of the overlapping sheets must be congruent, therefore, the partial layers 2 are conveyed to the collection point 3 with correspondingly positioned sheets.

As in FIG. 1 shown, in the frame 6 of the device in front of the collection point 3, a horizontal table top 7 is arranged, run on the surfaces for the on-delivery conveyor belts 1, of which the partial layers 2 and the books 5 are transported lying. At the beginning of the collection point 3 begins a further table top 8 with conveyor belts 9, which is pivotable at the collection point 3 down to form a Ablegestufe relative to the table top 7. Alternatively, the table top can be arranged slightly offset downwards to the bands 1 conveying the partial layers 2. The step formed by pivoting or staggered arrangement makes it possible, by means of the conveyor belts 1 to deposit the partial layers 2 on top of the already collected partial layers 10.

On each longitudinal side of the device in each case a parallel to the conveyor belts 1 by means of a drive continuously movable toothed belt 11 is arranged, wherein at least one toothed belt 11, preferably both toothed belt 11, at its stacking point 3 side facing a clamping device 12 carries as clamping device. The toothed belts 11 are designed so that the clamping nipper 12 can be moved from an area in front of the stacking point 3 into the region of the stacking point 3. By means of the drives, not shown, the clamping tongs 12 can be accelerated to the conveying speed of the conveyor belts 1 and then braked on their way to the stacking point 3 to a standstill. Alternatively, reciprocating toothed belts or other traction means such as chains for moving the clamping devices to the stacking point 3 can be used. A partial layer 2 can be so take over from the clamping forceps 12 at transport speed of the sheets 7, then the part position is braked and stored at the collection point 3 exact position. The corresponding movement of the toothed belt 11 is preferably carried out via servo motors, alternatively, mechanically driven step gear can be used.

The clamping tongs 12 are designed so that a partial layer 2 is clamped independent of thickness by spring force. When standstill in the final position at the stacking point 3, the closed clamp 12 is mechanically opened so far by a lever until it locks automatically by means of a built-in latch in the open state. This position is self-locking due to the positive design. This design has the advantage that during the transport path no external additional clamping force for the clamping nipper 12 must be exercised. The timing belt 11 has only the task to move the clamping pliers 12 according to the predetermined driving profile. After the opened clamping nipper 12 in its initial position at synchronous speed to the incoming Partial 2 was accelerated, it is closed by means of a firmly screwed in the frame 6 cam. For this purpose, this opens the pawl, so that the clamping pliers 12 closes by means of the spring compressing them. The range in which the clamping forceps 12 are moved at synchronous speed is selected so that different conveying speeds of the partial layers 2 have no influence on the positioning accuracy.

Below the stacking point 3 is at least one, preferably two or more attached to a cross member 14 upwardly extending needles 13 are attached. The cross member 14 with the needles 13 is by means of a lifting drive vertically up to the area of the table surface 8 hochbewegbar and at the same time so far lowered, that the tips of the needles 13 are below the conveyor belts 8. The needles 13 can thus be moved up through two of the punching holes 4 in order to keep the partial layers 10 collected at the stacking point 3 fixed. The vertical position of the needle tips is adjusted so that it is below the inlet level of the next conveyed partial layer 2, and at the same time the needles 13 securely fix the already collected partial layers. Thus, the collected partial layers 10 are held in the transport of a new sub-layer 2 in their position without hindering the placement of the new sub-layer 2. If the new sub-layer 2 is stored with exact position at the stacking point 3, then the needles 13 are raised at least by the thickness of the new sub-layer 2 in order to fix them at the stacking point 3 in an exact position. They then extend through the corresponding punching holes 4 of the newly collected sub-layer 10. Only then are the clamping devices 12 are opened and moved circumferentially or back to the transfer position in front of the stacking point 3 to take over a new sub-layer 2.

When all the partial layers 10 of a book 5 are collected at the collection point 3, an upper clamping band 15 is placed on top. The book 5 is then accelerated by the conveyor belts 9 at resting, mitbewegendem clamping band 15 and thereby kept fixed to be fed to the subsequently arranged binding station. The binding of a book 5 is carried out in a known manner with a spiral or a wire comb, which are passed through the punch holes 4.

Claims (9)

  1. A method for the production of books with wire comb or spiral binding or other comparable bindings, with which partial layers (2) of punched leaves are collected in sequence on top of each other at a collection point (3) into a book (5), which is then bound, characterised in that a partial layer (2) during transportation is kept clamped in the collective position by at least one moveable lateral clamping device (12), while the partial layers (10) being already collected at the collection point (3) are held fixed by means of at least one needle (13) ascending vertically from below through the punched holes (4), wherein the clamping of the pliers is only loosened, if the needles (13) by means of vertical ascension are also located in the punched holes (4) of the newly fed-through partial layer (2), wherein the book (5) is then accelerated from the conveyor belts (9) with a supported, moveable clamp fitting (15) and thereby kept fixed, in order to be fed into the subsequently arranged binding station.
  2. The method according to claim 1, characterised in that the transportation of the partial layer (2) to the collection point (3) and the transportation of the book (5) from the collection point (3) to on conveyor belts (1, 9) occurs in a horizontal position.
  3. The method according to claim 2, characterised in that when transporting a book (5) from the collection point (3) this is held fixed by an overlying, moveable clamp fitting (15).
  4. The method according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that as the clamping element at least one pair of lateral clamping pliers (12) is moved between a position receiving a partial layer and the collection point.
  5. A device for implementing a method according to one of claims 1 to 4 with a conveyor belt (1) leading to a collection point (3), and a conveyor belt (9) moving from the collection point (3), characterised in that at the collection point (3) at least one upwardly extending needle (13) is arranged, the tip of which is upwardly movable by means of a lift drive to above the conveyor belts (1), and that laterally next to the infeed track at least one clamping device (12) being moveable horizontally from an area before the stacking station (3) and up to the area of the stacking station (3) is arranged, by which a partial layer (2) being conveyed by one of the stacking stations (3) is kept clamped.
  6. The device according to claim 5, characterised in that on each longitudinal side of the conveying section conveying to the stacking station (3) a horizontally movable clamping device (12) is arranged.
  7. The device according to claim 5 or 6, characterised in that the clamping device (12) can be accelerated to synchronous speed with the conveying conveyor belt (1) and can be braked to a standstill on its way to the stacking station (3).
  8. The device according to one of claims 5 to 7, characterised in that above on a completely stacked book (5) applicable clamp fittings extend from the area of the stacking station backwards in the direction of transport, in order to keep a finished book (5) fixed during acceleration from the stacking station (3) together with the transporting conveyor belts (9).
  9. The device according to one of claims 5 to 8, characterised in that the clamping pliers (12) are designed such that a partial layer (2) is clamped irrespective of thickness by means of spring force, wherein means exist at a standstill in the end position on the stacking station (3) to mechanically open the closed clamping pliers (12) wide by means of a level until they independently engage in the opened state by means of a built-in latch.
