Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a lifting mechanism for the bedspring, or the support plane, of a mattress.
  • the mechanism can be integrated into a furniture frame, in general a containing piece of furniture, preferably a bed, or a furnishing item such as a sofa or sofa-bed.
  • a mechanism for lifting a bedspring or supporting plane for a mattress with respect to a fixed frame.
  • the mechanism comprises two arms both hinged at one end thereof to the bedspring and at the other end to the frame, so as to form altogether an articulated parallelogram capable of guiding the bedspring or plane lifting it vertically.
  • One of the two arms incorporates a gas spring inside two telescopic tubes.
  • a locking element which by rotating can hook the tube below so as to prevent a further extension.
  • the mechanism works well, and can be improved by making it simpler to build and/ or less expensive.
  • FIG. 15 Another mechanism is described in EP 2387914.
  • Fig. 15 it comprises an extendable arm formed by two telescopic elements with inside a thrusting gas spring.
  • the upper telescopic element is hinged to the bedspring and by oscillating acts as a locking means for the gas spring by selectively engaging a pin (64) integral with the lower telescopic element.
  • the gas spring of the extendable arm is blocked by a rod (26) hinged to the bedspring and can be blocked on an arm (38) hinged to the frame.
  • the arm (38) is not fixed but collapses on the frame when lowering the bedspring.
  • EP 2387914 The disadvantage of the solutions in EP 2387914 is the complexity of the arm locking.
  • the first variant it is necessary to make a groove in a telescopic element and secure a pin on the other, with long and expensive operations.
  • To facilitate the lifting of the bedspring one must have a gas spring adequately powerful and a relative, very robust locking, which weighs and costs.
  • the second variant e.g. needs a third, folding arm on which the rod (26) can be blocked, which complicates the mechanism and increases the risk that someone or something could get caught in the moving parts of the mechanism.
  • the mechanism serves to lift a support (or support plane) P with respect to a fixed frame T of a piece of furniture.
  • the support or plane P serves e.g. to lift a mattress supported therein.
  • the mechanism comprises a first arm Bl and a second arm B2 hinged at one end thereof to the support P and at the other end to the frame T (see axes K).
  • the arms Bl, B2 are substantially linear segments.
  • the arms Bl, B2, the frame T and the support P altogether form the four sides of an articulated parallelogram capable of guiding the support P lifting it vertically with respect to the frame T (see arrow E).
  • the arms Bl, B2 can be connected to the support P or the frame T also indirectly, e.g. when the materials of the latter are not very resistant, through e.g. plates, brackets or bars or other means of intermediate connection. However the nature and operation of the resulting parallelogram does not change.
  • locking means MS schematically shown with a dashed segment.
  • Such means MS are connected (see point W) to an arm (any one of the two, here called the first arm) and selectively connectable to at least one fixed point FX (see point shaped as a square) located on at least one of the remaining sides of the articulated parallelogram, i.e. either on the frame T and/ or on the support P and/ or on the other (second) arm, or combinations of these types of points FX.
  • the dash for the means MS indicates the possibilities of connection. To anchor or hook the means MS on a said remaining side of the parallelogram it is sufficient only one fixed point FX, while one can, however, increase the number of points FX to improve the resistance of the blocking action.
  • the means MS To avoid the detachment of the means MS, and e.g. also when they have non- deformable structure, it is preferred to permanently connect them to the first arm, while they are being made selectively connectable (via e.g. a controlled (electric or pneumatic) actuator or manually) to the fixed point FX. Connecting or disconnecting the means MS to/ from the point FX engages/ disengages rigidly the first arm, and therefore the support P, to/ from another side of the parallelogram. If, instead, the means MS have deformable structure, e.g. extendable along an axis, the connection or coupling points on the first arm and on the other side of the parallelogram can be connected fixedly or permanently. In this case the constraint for the support P is obtained by blocking internally the deformable structure of the means MS.
  • the first arm is extendable. This allows to tilt the support P with respect to the frame T and to lock it so by the means MS.
  • the first arm is extendable through a telescopic structure, formed by at least two elements mounted telescopically on each other and connected, e.g. hinged, respectively to the frame T and the support P.
  • the coupling/ connection point W on the first arm is placed on one of the two telescopic elements, and the point FX is placed on another side of the parallelogram so as to be able to block the mutual position of the telescopic elements.
  • the first arm comprises a gas spring adapted to counteract the weight of the plane.
  • the gas spring is usually a delicate organ, and when it constitutes the first arm and/or is exposed, it is worth to protect it and/or to avoid changing it.
  • the first arm can comprise an element integral with the spring, and on such integral element the blocking means can be rigidly connected.
  • the integral element can be coupled to the spring in many ways, e.g. by containing it all or in part, or by surrounding it all or in part.
  • the integral element comprises a seat adapted to house therein at least a portion of the gas spring.
  • the seat is preferably cylindrical.
  • the integral element can be hinged to the support P, so as to discharge thereon the weight of the support P, and can be the only element comprised in the first arm being hinged to the support P.
  • the aforesaid gas spring can be hinged to the support P too, e.g. with the axis coaxial to that of the integral element.
  • the blocking means MS can be connected to the first arm (point W) in various ways. Some examples are a fixed connection (e.g. a welding or screwing) or a movable connection, e.g. sliding or guided, or through hinging.
  • the hinging is the preferred system because it has simple construction and allows a little complicated movement for engaging the blocking means MS in order for them to block the support P.
  • the position of the point W may vary too, e.g. one can choose one end or an intermediate point of the arm and/ or of the integral element and/ or of the gas spring.
  • the means MS are hinged at an intermediate point W of the first arm, so as to be able to oscillate relative to the latter.
  • the means MS can be connectable (i.e. adapted to create a non-permanent connection) to the side of said articulated parallelogram in various ways. Some examples are a movable connection, e.g. sliding or guided, or by anchoring or fixing.

  • the arms Bl, B2 having a hinging axis to the frame T and to the support P, the means MS can be configured to be capable of being blocked in a point integral with the frame T or the support P located substantially along at least one of these axes.
  • This solution has the advantage of being able to exploit as an anchor point the structural elements of the frame T or of the plane P which carry out the hinging of the arms Bl, B2, so as to simplify the mechanism. It is advantageous to choose the first arm's hinging axis to the frame T, i.e. to create a selective connection (or anchoring or coupling) point of the means MS only on the frame T, because this way by gravity and/or in a simple way the means MS assume a compact configuration between the arms Bl, B2, and come out shorter and less complex.
  • the mechanism can comprise a plate for fixing to a vertical wall of the furniture, which facilitates the fastening e.g. to wooden parts. From said plate can extend, along the hinging axis to the frame T of the first arm, a support or spacer element to the free end of which the first arm is hinged.
