Description

Domaine techniqueTechnical area

The present invention relates to mechanical timepieces. It relates more particularly to a display device hours.

Etat de la techniqueState of the art

There are already known display devices for displaying at two different points the same time. More particularly, the document EP 1 031 895 discloses a table clock comprising a cylinder on which is arranged a strip having on its opposite edges two displays of the same hour, on either side of a display of cities. This dual display makes it possible to virtually reproduce a single time zone above the world map in the center of the band.

Display devices for displaying at least two different hours are most commonly used for displaying times corresponding to at least two different time zones. Such hours display can be done in different ways. It is possible first of all to provide on the same main dial, two fixed dials each comprising an hour hand respectively displaying a time chosen according to a time zone. This display device has the disadvantage of occupying a lot of space on the main dial. Two hour hands can also be provided in the center of the same dial displaying a first hour with a first hand, a rotating bezel being used to select a time zone and then display the corresponding second hour by means of the second hand on the bezel which is then fixed. However, the two needles in the center can affect the ease of reading the time.

Another possibility is to use a rotating needle associated with a dial and a fixed index on the dial associated with a ring rotated around the dial. On the crown may be inscribed the names of cities allowing to choose time zones. To take into account, in addition to time zones, summer time and winter time, it is possible to to add, to the left of the name of the town concerned, information, such as the letter S for "summer" to read daylight saving time if it applies. However, the resulting display device may be unclear as daylight saving time is not clearly displayed by means of an index associated with a digit.

An object of the present invention is therefore to overcome these disadvantages, by providing a display device for easy reading of the hours on two different hours display members.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a display device for easy reading of winter time and daylight saving time.

Mode(s) de réalisation de l'inventionMode (s) of realization of the invention

With reference to the figures, there will be described a particular embodiment of the invention, for displaying the winter hours and summer hours.

With reference to the figure 1 , there is shown a first variant of an hour display device according to the present invention, comprising a first hour display member 1 and a second hour display member 2, each having a circular shape, likewise axis, and on each of which are regularly distributed 24 graduations, corresponding to 24 hours. The first display member 1 displays the winter hours while the second display member 2 displays the summer hours.

The hours display device also comprises first indicator means of at least one hour arranged to indicate the time on the first display member hours 1 and second indicator means of at least one hour arranged to indicate the time on the second display member hours 2.

According to the invention, and in the variant represented on the figure 1 the first and second indicator means of at least one hour are arranged between the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2, so that said first and second indicator means of at least one hour, form a single piece and correspond to reference 4. In the variant shown, the first and second indicator means of at least one hour 4 form a single piece of circular shape, concentric with the first and second display members hours 1 and 2. On this piece 4 are regularly distributed 24 first indexes 6 associated with the names of cities divided into 24 time zones. The indexes 6 are here in the form of a straight line terminated, at its end on the side of the first display member 1, by an arrow to clearly indicate the time to be displayed on said first display member 1 On the part 4 are also distributed second indexes 8 also having the shape of a completed straight line, at its end side of the second display member 2, by an arrow to clearly indicate the time to be displayed on said second display member 2. It is obvious that the indexes may be in any other form suitable for the present invention. In particular, the indexes can be in the form of right angled sectors in each of which is inscribed the name of a city.

In the variant shown, the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2 are arranged so that the graduation corresponding to the time H provided on the first display member 1 is aligned with the axis of said bodies of display 1 and 2 and with the graduation corresponding to the time H + 1 provided on the second display member 2, in order to be able to display the winter time and daylight saving time. In addition, the indexes 6 and 8 of the first and second hour indicator means are arranged so that the indexes 6 and 8 with which the same city name is associated are aligned. Thus, the index 6a and the index 8a associated with the city of Los Angeles are aligned to indicate clearly that daylight saving time can apply to Los Angeles, and especially that when it is 4 pm in Los Angeles in winter, it is 17h in Los Angeles in summer.

There is no second index 8 for cities for which daylight saving time does not apply. A blank or other pattern may be provided corresponding to the associated index 6. It is also possible to extend the line of the associated index 6. For example, with reference to figure 1 , the trait of the index 6 associated with Hawaii extends towards the second display member hours 2 but does not end with an arrow to indicate that daylight saving time does not apply to Hawaii.

According to a first variant of the invention, the first and second display members 1 and 2 are fixed, and the first and second hour indicator means, joined in a piece 4, are rotatably mounted around the axis of the display organs, to make a tour in 24h.

The user can turn the room 4 to set for example the winter time to be displayed according to the chosen time zone. Then piece 4 rotates clockwise by displaying the winter time for each of the cities associated with the indexes 6 and daylight saving time for each of the cities associated with the indexes 8 when daylight saving time is applied . Thus, when for example 1h in Paris in winter, the user easily knows, reading the first index 6, that it is 3 hours in Moscow and 4 hours in Dubai. When it is 1am in Paris in summer, the user easily knows, reading the first indexes 6 and second indexes 8 present, that it is 3 hours in Moscow but also 3 hours in Dubai.

With reference to the figure 2 schematically shown drive means of the part 4. In the variant shown, the first hour display member 1 has an annular shape, the second display member hours 2 has the form of a disk and the hour indicator means have the shape of an annular piece 4. The drive means of the piece 4 comprise a gear train 10 cooperating on the one hand with the barrel 12 and on the other hand with a wheel 14 integral with piece 4.

According to another variant not shown, the direction of the graduations on the display members, and the order of the cities can be reversed, in this case the direction of rotation of the part 4 will be anti-clockwise. Similarly, it is possible to invert the indexes 6 and 8 so that daylight saving time can be read on the first display member hours 1 when it applies and the winter time is read on the second display member hours 2.

According to a second variant of the invention, the first and second hour indicator means, namely the part 4, are fixed, and the first and second display members 1 and 2 are mounted to rotate about their axis, in counterclockwise, at the same speed of rotation to make a turn in 24h. The direction of the graduations on the display members, and the order of the cities can be reversed, in this case the direction of rotation of the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2 will be hourly.

In the variant shown on the figure 3 , for which the same elements are represented with the same references, the indexes 6 and 8 associated with the same city respectively have a curved shape in the extension of one another. The graduations corresponding to the same hours on the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2 are aligned with respect to their axis, so that the indexes 6 and 8 associated with the same city, being inclined, display for the same city winter time and daylight saving time when it applies. Indexes in the form of curves can be replaced by curved angular sectors in the middle of each of which is inscribed the name of a city. Indexes in the form of a curve can also be replaced by straight lines connected by a transverse rectilinear line.

Each of the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2 has a light color for the hours between 7am and 6pm and a dark color for the hours between 7pm and 6am for a day / night display. It is obvious that other intervals of hours can be chosen.

According to the invention, the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2 are movable in rotation, at the same speed to perform a turn in 24 hours and the part 4 is fixed, or the first and second members of display of hours 1 and 2 are fixed and part 4 is rotatable to perform a turn in 24 hours.

According to the variants represented on the figures 4 and 5 the first hour display member 21 and the second hour display member 22 respectively have the shape of a cylinder, a circular base, and having the same longitudinal axis. On each of these cylinders are regularly distributed 24 graduations, corresponding to 24 hours. The first display member 21 displays the winter hours while the second display member 22 displays the summer hours. The first hour indicator means and the second hour indicator means are disposed between the first and second hour display members 21 and 22, so that said first and second hour indicator means form a single cylindrical piece 24, circular base, with the same longitudinal axis and the same diameter as the cylinders of the display members 21 and 22. On this piece 24 are regularly distributed 24 strips 26, inside each of which is inscribed the name of a corresponding city to one of 24 time zones. The end of each strip 26 facing the first hour display member 21 acts as a first index to display the winter time on the first hour display member 21 and the end of each strip 26 as second time display member 22 serves as a second index to display, on the second display member hours 22, the summer time corresponding to the same city.

According to the invention, the first and second display members of hours 21 and 22 are movable in rotation, at the same speed to perform a turn in 24 hours and the piece 24 is fixed, or the first and second members of display hours 21 and 22 are fixed and the part 24 is rotatable to perform a turn in 24 hours. The directions of rotation can be clockwise or anticlockwise according to the arrangement of the graduations and the order of the cities.

In the variant shown on the figure 4 the strips 26 are rectilinear, that is to say parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rolls, and the first and second display members of the hours 21 and 22 are arranged so that the graduation corresponding to the hour H provided on the first display member 21 is aligned, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rolls, with the graduation corresponding to the time H + 1 provided on the second display organ 22, for the same city, in order to be able to display the winter time and daylight saving time for the same city.

Each of the first and second display members of the hours 21 and 22 has a light color for the hours between 7am and 6pm and a dark color for the hours between 7pm and 6am for a day / night display.

According to the variant represented on the figure 5 , the strips 26 are inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the rolls, and the first and second hours display members 21 and 22 are arranged so that the graduation corresponding to the time H provided on the first member of display 21 is aligned, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cylinders, with the graduation corresponding to the same time H provided on the second display member 22 for the same city, in order to be able to display the winter time and the summer time for the same city using inclined bands 26.

According to a variant not shown, it is possible to provide a window allowing a preferred display of a single city and a single hour on each of the display organs hours 21 and 22.

In another variant not shown, there can be provided a retractable flap arranged to close one of the display organs of the hours 21 or 22 to display for example only one hour for the case where the time of day summer does not apply.

According to the wishes of the user, the first and second hours display members 21 and 22 and the workpiece 24 may be arranged to be able to rotate the workpiece 24 to display a city in a preferred manner, and the first and second workpieces time display will turn to show the corresponding times. The piece 24 then remains stationary and locked on the chosen city, the first and second display members of the hours 21 and 22 then being rotatable. When the user wishes to choose to display another city preferably, the first and second hours display members will rotate to display the corresponding times.

In a variant not shown, the base of the cylinders has the shape of an ellipse.

In another variant not shown, only the indexes associated with the same city for which daylight saving time is applied are displayed.

Those skilled in the art can easily adapt the examples described above to the more general cases of displaying hours corresponding to different time zones. In particular, with reference to figure 6 it may be provided that the first and second indicator means of at least one hour constitute two different pieces 34, 36, which can be rotated to be positioned relative to each other according to the chosen time zones. Each of the first and second time indicator means comprises 24 indexes, respectively referenced 38 and 40, each of which is associated with the name of a city corresponding to one of the 24 time zones. Initially, the piece 34 corresponding to the first hour indicator means is detached from the piece 36 corresponding to the second hour indicator means so as to position it to display the time on the first display member 31, according to a first time zone chosen by means of the first indexes 38, and the piece 36 is positioned to display the time on the second display member 32, according to a second time zone chosen by means of the second indexes 40, the first and second indexes 38, 40 being in the extension of one another for a simplified reading. When setting the time zone, the second display member 32 is arranged to rotate with the workpiece 36. During operation, the workpiece 36 is disengaged from the second display member 32. The workpieces 34 and 36 rotate at the same time. same speed or the first and second display members hours 31 and 32 rotate at the same speed to display the hours in two time zones, by means of two indexes 38, 40 in the extension of one another .

So, in the example shown on the figure 6 , the user is located in Paris, wants to know the time in Bangkok. As a result, it turns part 36 so that the index 38 associated with the city of Paris is aligned with the index 40 associated with the city of Bangkok. Reading two time zones is thus simplified.

Le fonctionnement de ce dispositif est identique à celui de la variante de la figure 1.The variant represented on the figure 7 substantially corresponds to the variant represented on the figure 1 , except for the arrangement of the hours indicating means. The same elements are represented with the same references. In the variant of the figure 7 only the second indicator means of the hours constituted by the part 4a carrying the second indexes 8 are arranged between the first and second display members of the hours 1 and 2 to display the summer time on said second display member of the hours 2. The first indicator means of the hours constituted by the part 4b carrying the first indexes 6 are arranged around the first display member hours 1 to display the winter time on said first display member hours 1. The names of the cities may appear only on the part 4b, associated with each first index 6. The index 8 provided on the part 4a associated with a city being aligned with the index 6 associated with the same city provided on the part 4b, the reading of winter time and daylight saving time when it is applied is simplified. The operation of this device is identical to that of the variant of the figure 1 .

It is obvious that the present invention is not limited to the examples shown. In particular, the shape of the indexes, graduations, the colors of the different elements may vary. On display devices, only certain hours may appear. Information related to a place may differ from city names. In particular may appear names of sports venues, shops or any other information involving a time difference.
