Description

The invention relates to a manifold for a heat exchanger, in particular for a motor vehicle.

The invention also relates to corresponding heat exchangers.

There are already known heat exchangers used in motor vehicles, for example to cool the engine coolant.

Generally, such a heat exchanger comprises a bundle of tubes and fins interposed between the tubes, and a header. This manifold comprises at least two parts: a header plate receiving the ends of the tubes and a cover which is fixed on the header plate to close the manifold by providing the compression of a sealing means.

According to a known solution, the header plate has a groove or groove for placing and positioning the sealing means. Then, the cover is positioned on the sealing means and the cover is attached to the header plate to close the header.

In a variant, flat collector plates having no groove or groove are known, in particular to facilitate the positioning and the holding in place of the seal.

The term "flat collector plate" means that this collector plate extends along a single flat surface, with the exception of collars conventionally protruding to receive the ends of the tubes. In particular, at its periphery, the collecting plate therefore has no groove or the like, generally used to house the sealing means.

Generally this solution requires a foot cover to maintain in position the sealing means, however, this foot cover is relatively wide which increases the width of the collector box.

Indeed, in order to properly compress and maintain in position the sealing means, the cover foot must be provided wider than the sealing means. Thus, the cover foot completely crushes the sealing means when the fixing of the cover on the header plate ensuring a seal.

For example, the document FR2927414 shows a heat exchanger collector box with a flat collector plate and a cover foot having a protruding portion which partially crushes the seal continuously over the entire length of said collector box. The document US4997035 shows a collector box cover whose lid foot has an alternation of recesses and protuberances, the protuberances of which are arranged opposite the openings of the collector plate, said collector plate also having a groove in which is placed the sealing means.

The invention therefore aims to provide a manifold whose collector plate is of the type without groove or groove, and the maintenance of the seal is ensured while reducing the width of the manifold.

To this end, the subject of the invention is a collecting box for a heat exchanger comprising a substantially flat collector plate having openings for the passage of a plurality of heat exchange tubes, a sealing means disposed on the contour peripheral of the collector plate, and a cover comprising a peripheral cover foot closing said manifold by compressing the sealing means, characterized in that the cover foot has a substantially crenellated shape with an alternation of recesses and protuberances extending axially towards the header plate, said recesses being arranged opposite the openings of the header plate to receive the ends of said tubes so as to maintain the sealing means between said tubes at the assembly, and in that that the width of the cover foot is less than or equal to the width of the compressed sealing means.

  • le couvercle présente une forme générale de voûte et les protubérances sont réalisées dans la continuité de ladite voûte;
  • les protubérances présentent respectivement un contour extérieur de forme sensiblement arrondie;

  • le moyen d'étanchéité présente une forme complémentaire de celle du pied de couvercle;
  • le moyen d'étanchéité est configuré pour être en contact avec les tubes d'échange de chaleur;
  • le moyen d'étanchéité comporte un joint d'étanchéité;
  • la hauteur d'une protubérance du pied de couvercle est inférieure à la hauteur du moyen d'étanchéité comprimé;
  • la plaque collectrice est fixée au couvercle par sertissage;
Said manifold may further comprise one or more of the following features, taken separately or in combination:
  • the cover has a general vault shape and the protuberances are made in the continuity of said vault;
  • the protuberances respectively have an outer contour of substantially rounded shape;
  • the cover foot has a substantially crenellated shape to a predefined thickness of the cover foot;
  • the sealing means has a shape complementary to that of the lid base;
  • the sealing means is configured to be in contact with the heat exchange tubes;
  • the sealing means comprises a seal;
  • the height of a protuberance of the cover foot is less than the height of the compressed sealing means;
  • the collector plate is fixed to the cover by crimping;
  • the collector plate has on its periphery folded crimping tabs, during crimping, on the lid.

The invention also relates to a brazed heat exchanger, in particular for motor vehicles, comprising a bundle of heat exchange tubes whose ends are respectively fixed to two manifolds, as defined above.

The invention also relates to a heat exchanger, in particular for motor vehicles, comprising a bundle of heat exchange tubes whose ends are respectively fixed to two manifolds, the elements constituting said manifold are mechanically fixed to each other , the two manifolds being as defined above.

Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge more clearly on reading the following description, given by way of illustrative and nonlimiting example, and the appended drawings among which:
  • the figure 1 is a simplified exploded view of a collector box,
  • the figure 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a header plate and a cover foot, with a heat exchange tube in the background,
  • the figure 3 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing the header plate and the cover foot at a heat exchange tube,
  • the figure 4 is a schematic longitudinal sectional view showing the header plate and the cover foot, and
  • the figure 5 shows schematically and partially a sectional view of the lid of the manifold.

In these figures, the substantially identical elements bear the same references.

The invention relates to a heat exchanger for a motor vehicle, in particular for cooling the engine coolant.

In particular, the invention applies for a brazed heat exchanger. The invention can also be applied for a mechanical assembly heat exchanger.

Seule une extrémité d'un tube 3 est visible sur les figures 2 et 3, cette extrémité se trouvant en arrière-plan sur la figure 2.Diagrammatic and simplified representation of the figure 1 , a manifold 1 for heat exchanger comprising a beam formed of a multiplicity of tubes 3 (cf. figures 2,3 ), for example aluminum, arranged in one or more rows of tubes. Only one end of a tube 3 is visible on the Figures 2 and 3 , this end lying in the background on the figure 2 .

Referring again to the figure 1 , the manifold 1 comprises:
  • a collector plate 5 flat, that is to say without groove, and having openings 7 for the passage of the ends of the tubes 3, the plate 5 having for example flanges 8 to receive these ends of tubes 3,
  • sealing means such as a seal 9, and
  • a cover 10, for example made of plastic, with a cover foot 11.

The term "cover foot" is understood to mean the lower part of the cover 10 pressing against the seal 9 and which cooperates with the collector plate 5 to be fixed, for example by means of crimping tabs 12 present on the periphery or around the collecting plate 5 and which are folded during crimping on the cover 10.

The collecting plate 5, for example made of aluminum, has raised or folded edges 5a making it possible to define a housing for the seal 9 in the same plane as the openings 7.

The crimping tabs 12 are provided on these raised edges 5a of the collector plate 5 to be crimped on the edges of the cover 10.

The seal 9 (shown schematically and simplified) is disposed on the peripheral contour of the header plate 5 between the foot of the lid 11 and the collector plate 5. According to the embodiment described, the seal 9 is arranged to be in contact with the tubes 3.

Il n'y a donc pas de contact direct entre le pied de couvercle 11 et la plaque collectrice 5.In addition, the seal 9 may have a shape complementary to the shape of the cover foot 11 and is always present between the cover foot 11 and the collector plate 5. There is therefore no direct contact between the cover foot 11 and the collector plate 5.

Furthermore, the lid 10 has a generally vaulted general shape.

As can be seen in the embodiment of the Figures 2 and 3 , the cover foot 11 has a width L, L 1 at most equal to the width L ', L 1 ' of the seal 9. As a result, the gain in width of the manifold 1 is noticeable, while improving the connection between the cover 10 and the header plate 5, in particular the seal.

Of course, here the term "width" of the seal 9, the width of the latter at rest after elastic deformation due to the compression of the seal 9 by the cover foot 11.

In addition, the cover foot 11 has a substantially crenellated shape visible on the Figures 1 and 4 .

Cette forme en créneaux est ici réalisée du côté intérieur du couvercle 10.This crenellated form is formed on the long sides of the cover foot 11, for example on just a thickness e of the cover foot 11 (see figure 2 ) and in the continuity of the roof vault 10. This crenellated form is here made on the inside of the lid 10.

There is thus an alternation of recesses 13 and protuberances 15 extending axially towards the collector plate 5, as is better visible on the Figures 1 and 4 . The protuberances 15 are aligned with the roof of the lid 10.

Bien sûr, on entend par pied de couvercle 11 la partie inférieure du couvercle 10, les protubérances axiales 15 y compris venant appuyer sur le joint d'étanchéité 9.Of course, the term "cover foot 11" is understood to mean the lower part of the cover 10, the axial protuberances 15 including pressing against the seal 9.

En se référant aux figures 1 et 3, les creux 13 sont en vis-à-vis des ouvertures 7 de la plaque 5 et donc des extrémités des tubes 3 lorsqu'ils sont assemblés à la boîte collectrice 1, de façon à maintenir le joint d'étanchéité 9 entre les tubes 3.Referring to Figures 1 and 3 , the recesses 13 are opposite the openings 7 of the plate 5 and therefore of the ends of the tubes 3 when they are assembled to the manifold 1, so as to maintain the seal 9 between the tubes 3 .

On the contrary, the protuberances 15 are on both sides of these openings 7 and therefore tubes 3 to the assembly of the heat exchanger (see Figures 2 and 3 ). There is therefore no protuberance 15 at the tubes 3 of the assembled exchanger.

In addition, according to the illustrated embodiment, each protuberance 15 has a height h less than the height h 'of the seal 9, so that there is no direct contact between the cover foot 11 and the collector plate 5.

Pour mesurer la hauteur h de la protubérance 15, on mesure ici la partie protubérante par rapport à un creux 13 comme on le voit sur la figure 4.To measure the height h of the protuberance 15, the protruding portion is measured here with respect to a recess 13 as seen in FIG. figure 4 .

Of course, here the term "height" of the seal 9, the height thereof after elastic deformation due to the compression of the seal 9 by the cover foot 11.

On évite ainsi d'abîmer le joint d'étanchéité 9 lors de l'assemblage de la boîte collectrice 1.Moreover, as we notice on the figure 5 , the protuberances may respectively have an outer contour 17, that is to say the outer side of the lid 10, having a substantially rounded shape. This avoids damage to the seal 9 during assembly of the manifold 1.

Of course, any other form of the outer contour 17 of the protuberances 15 may be provided which reduces the risk of damaging the seal 9 during its compression.

Thus, for assembling such a heat exchanger 1 by soldering, the tube bundle 3 and the collector plate 5 are brazed together, then the lid 10 is crimped onto the collector plate 5, in particular using the straps of FIG. crimping, with the seal 9 interposed between the cover foot 11 and the collector plate 5.

The crenellated portion 13,15 of the cover foot 11, arranged so that the ends of the heat exchange tubes 3 are interposed between the protuberances 15 and that there is nothing at the level of the tubes 3, allows to obtain a compact header 1 while improving the seal between the cover 10 and the header plate 5.
