Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a heat exchanger, in particular for motor vehicles.
Heat exchangers generally include a collector connected to a bundle of tubes. Conventionally, this collector may be formed by a collector plate covered with a lid.
The invention relates more particularly to an exchanger in which the collector plate has a core and an edge raised at its periphery. The core is pierced with holes adapted to receive tubes of a beam, the holes being each surrounded by a collar having two pairs of opposite sides.
Such heat exchangers are made in various ways. Thus, the raised edge of the header plate can form a groove for receiving a plastic cover crimped therein. Such a heat exchanger can also receive a metal cover, for example aluminum, brazed to the peripheral edge of the collector plate.
In a conventional manner, the collector plates of these heat exchangers have collars which are generally formed by punching and lifting or puncturing the plate. The tubes are inserted into these collars and the brazed assembly to form the heat exchanger.
In these heat exchangers, there is a discontinuity of material between the tube, the collar edge made by the collector plate and the collar edge made directly by the raised edge. This discontinuity can lead to an imbalance during brazing, and lead to an inequitable distribution of stresses when the exchanger is stressed, particularly at the cross section of the tubes (in the case of non-circular tubes).
The invention proposes to improve heat exchangers of the above type.
For this purpose, there is provided a heat exchanger comprising a header plate having a core and an edge raised at its periphery, the core being pierced with holes for receiving tubes from a bundle, collars being provided at said holes to surround said tubes, each said collar having two pairs of opposite sides at least a first side of a collar being formed directly by the raised edge and at least a second side of said collar being derived from the core of the header plate. Between at least two adjacent holes, the raised edge has a recess towards the core, allowing said holes to conform to the contour of said tube.
This type of heat exchanger is extremely advantageous in that the recess in the direction of the core makes it possible to fill the discontinuity of material and allows a brazing which brings about a uniform distribution of the stresses.
Advantageously, the recess has a first portion at a second side of the collar surrounding one of said holes between which the recess is formed, and a second portion at a second side of the collar surrounding the other of said holes. Thus, a recess can be used to tuck two successive collars.
Advantageously, once the exchanger assembled, the second side is brazed to the recess. This type of heat exchanger is extremely interesting in that it offers improved mechanical strength. Indeed, the brazing of one side of the collar on the raised edge allows, once the exchanger has been soldered, to distribute the forces exerted on the tube not only on the collar but also on the whole of the collector plate , and in a uniformly distributed way.
In one embodiment, the collars each include a pair of second opposite sides to each other from the core of the header plate. Advantageously, the beam may then comprise a row of tubes, and each collar may comprise a pair of opposite first sides to one another, while the raised edge may comprise a recess between each pair of adjacent holes of the core. .
The second sides of the collar, coming from the core, can extend towards the inside of the collector or towards the outside of the collector, that is to say toward the bundle of tubes.
The raised edge of the header plate can form a clean groove for receiving a seal and a crimpable plastic cover. The raised edge can also be adapted to receive a lid to which it can be brazed. In this embodiment, the cover may in particular comprise ribs of a size homologous to those of the recesses, and which are housed in them when the cover is received in the throat. Such an exchanger can thus be made even more resistant.

In the example described here, these tubes are flat and share with the holes 6 a large axis X-X and a small axis Y-Y. By flat tube is meant a generally oblong section tube, with two large parallel sides and two small sides connecting the respective ends of the long sides. These tubes could nevertheless be different in nature depending on the application sought.
The
It comprises two

Thus, not only is the
In fact, the continuity of material at the level of the soul-tube-edge connection raised which appears in this figure ensures a balanced brazing and a favorable distribution of the subsequent mechanical stresses experienced by the manifold, especially during cooling.
In the examples described here, it is the short sides of the collars which are generally formed by the raised edge of the collector plate. One could nevertheless imagine cases where the long sides would be formed by the raised edge, for example in the application of the invention to gas coolers, in which the tubes are "twisted". It would also be conceivable to produce a cover provided with an extension in its lower part which takes the place of the
The invention finds a preferential application to heat exchangers for motor vehicles, for example to charge air coolers. It can however be applied to other heat exchangers, for example engine cooling radiators.
