Definitions

  • the invention relates to a packaging film according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Coatings for food packaging are known which are used to protect the packaged food from attack by microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi or other germs.
  • microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi or other germs.
  • WO 2006/133754 A1 two fundamentally different functional principles of antimicrobial layers are known.
  • the first functional principle is characterized by the fact that the antimicrobial active ingredients and inhibitors integrated into the layer are volatile and are released over time from a material of the layer, whereby the antimicrobial effect occurs not only in the vicinity of the coated surface but in the entire packaging volume.
  • the second functional principle is characterized in that the antimicrobial active ingredients and inhibitors are spatially fixed in the functional layer in such a way that they cannot escape independently from the carrier layer. With functional layers of this type, the antimicrobial effect only develops when the packaged goods come into direct contact with the antimicrobial coated surface.
  • the WO 2006/133754 A1 describes an advanced process with which a technical surface with an antimicrobial agent-releasing layer can be produced.
  • a solution of polyvinyl acetate, a preservative and a solvent is applied to the technical surface and dried on the technical surface to form the antimicrobial layer.
  • oxygen scavengers oxygen scavengers
  • the function of these scavengers is often to create and maintain an oxygen-free atmosphere in the packaging in order to ensure an extended shelf life of the packaged goods.
  • the direct connections must on the one hand remove the remaining oxygen that is in the packaging space as quickly as possible, on the other hand, the connections, if they are integrated into the outer packaging material, represent an active barrier for oxygen migrating from the outside into the packaging.
  • the WO 2007/051860 A1 now describes a new type of lacquer material that has an oxygen-scavenging property.
  • This comprises a matrix consisting of organic polymers and at least one component which, after suitable triggering, is reactive towards oxygen.
  • the functional layers described above have proven themselves particularly in food packaging and pharmaceutical packaging.
  • the integration of functional layers of this type into packaging material often entails difficulties, especially when the functional layer must have direct contact with the packaged product and / or the packaging volume in order to achieve the desired effect.
  • the functional layer would have to be sealable in addition to its antimicrobial and / or oxygen-scavenging property in order to be able to close the packaged goods in a moisture-tight and / or airtight manner.
  • it would only be possible to cover the entire surface with a sealable layer which would, however, result in the loss of direct contact with the packaged goods and at least reduce the functional effect of the functional layer.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of proposing a packaging film with a packaging film section comprising a functional layer having an antimicrobial and / or oxygen-scavenging property, which at least in sections forms an outer layer of the packaging film and yet does not have to be sealable.
  • annular sealing surface is to be understood as an area encircling, ie endless, sealing surface that runs around the circumferential direction around the section of the functional layer forming an outer layer of the packaging film section or the functional layer forming an outer layer of the packaging film section, the shape of which is not limited to a specific geometric shape is limited.
  • annular sealing surface in addition to an annular sealing surface, there are also all other geometric shapes, such as, for example, rectangular, square or oval ring shapes to understand.
  • the invention is based on the idea that in the event that the functional layer of the packaging film section only partially forms an outer layer of the packaging film section, that is, only partially in relation to its surface extent extends up to the outside of the packaging film section, this section forming an outer layer of the packaging film section Functional layer, at least in sections, preferably completely, to be arranged in an area which is enclosed on the outside (outer surface) of the packaging film section by an annular sealing surface, ie around the section. In the event that (based on its surface extension) the entire functional layer extends to the outside of the packaging section, i. H.
  • the functional layer completely forms an outer layer of the packaging film section
  • the functional layer at least partially, preferably completely, is arranged in an area that is on the outside (outer surface) of the packaging film section by a ring-shaped, ie enclosed around the area encircling sealing surface.
  • the essence of the invention is to form the outer surface of the packaging film section only partially with the aid of the entire functional layer or with the aid of a section of the functional layer and to form at least a partial area of the outer surface of the packaging film section with an annular sealing surface that is arranged in this way that it completely surrounds the section of the functional layer or the functional layer, ie encloses it.
  • the sealing surface is preferably formed by a sealable, in particular heat-sealable material which, in a finished packaging formed with the aid of a packaging film designed according to the concept of the invention, forms a sealing seam that seals the packaged goods, in particular airtight and / or moisture-tight.
  • the packaging film is sealed to itself in the area of the annular sealing surface, for example to produce a bag-shaped packaging, or to another packaging part, in particular another packaging film and the product encloses, the functional layer in this case preferably forming the inside of the packaging facing the product (packaged goods).
  • a packaging film designed according to the concept of the invention places significantly lower demands on the properties of the functional layer, since the functional layer itself does not have to be sealed - the sealing function takes over, preferably exclusively, the sealing surface surrounding the functional layer, i.e. the circumferential sealing surface.
  • the functional layer is preferably a non-sealable or at least poorly sealable layer.
  • the substrate is formed only of a single layer, for example an aluminum layer.
  • a multilayer substrate as the substrate, which is made up of different functional layers.
  • the functional layer is preferably printed directly onto the single-layer or multilayer substrate.
  • the layer immediately adjacent to the functional layer is a primer layer which serves as an adhesion promoter in order to ensure a better hold of the functional layer. Adhesion improvement can also be achieved by appropriate pretreatment of the substrate, for example by plasma treatment. It is within the scope of the invention to apply the primer layer shortly before the functional layer is printed and thus make it part of the substrate for heating the functional layer.
  • the outer side / outer surface / flat side of the packaging film section does not have a functional layer in an area outside the annular sealing surface - that is, the section of the functional layer forming an outer layer of the packaging film section or the entire functional layer forming an outer layer is exclusively located in the area enclosed by the annular sealing surface.
  • the section of the functional layer forming an outer layer of the packaging film section or the entire functional layer forming an outer layer is exclusively located in the area enclosed by the annular sealing surface.
  • no functional layer is provided on the entire outside / outer surface of the packaging film in an area outside the area enclosed by the sealing surface, since this, in particular non-sealable, functional layer is would be outside the actual product space.
  • the functional layer is printed on the substrate, preferably on a primer layer of the substrate, and the sealing layer is located above (offset in the direction of the outside) of the functional layer, i.e. covers it in a ring shape and thereby closes an inner and an outer layer of the packaging film section forming section of the functional layer.
  • the sealing layer it is conceivable for the sealing layer to be applied directly to the functional layer, preferably to be printed.
  • an embodiment is particularly preferred in which the sealing layer is applied, in particular printed, to a suitable primer layer applied to the functional layer to improve adhesion.
  • An embodiment can also be implemented in which both the sealing layer and the functional layer are applied to the substrate, preferably to a corresponding adhesion promoter primer layer.
  • the functional layer can be applied in an inner region with a first pressure roller and the annular sealing surface around the functional layer with a second pressure roller.
  • the functional and sealing layers at least essentially, do not overlap - they possibly run somewhat into one another, but can also specifically have a pressure-free gap between them.
  • the entire functional layer i.e. the functional layer over its entire surface extension
  • the functional layer or the section of the functional layer within the annular sealing surface, there are again several possibilities.
  • the functional layer or the section of the functional layer can be applied over the entire area within the annular sealing surface, preferably in such a way that the entire area of the annular sealing surface enclosed area is filled by the functional layer.
  • the functional layer only in at least one area within the sealing surface, wherein the functional layer can be applied, for example, as a pattern, preferably as a regular pattern.
  • An embodiment can also be implemented in which the functional layer or the section of the functional layer is formed from several layer sub-sections arranged next to one another, with at least two layer sub-sections of the functional layer or the section of the functional layer having a different function.
  • layer sections with an antimicrobial effect and layer sections catching oxygen can be arranged in a checkerboard manner within the annular sealing surface.
  • the material forming the functional layer is, for example, a printable material, that is to say can be applied by means of at least one printing process, in particular onto the substrate and / or a sealing layer.
  • a printable material that is to say can be applied by means of at least one printing process, in particular onto the substrate and / or a sealing layer.
  • This can, for example when using digital printing processes, be in powder form in the manner of a toner for laser printers.
  • a liquid version of the material is particularly preferred, so that the material can be applied to the substrate, for example, by roller printing, flexographic printing, inkjet printing, gravure printing or also by a correspondingly designed digital printing process.
  • the substrate is either designed as a barrier layer or has a barrier layer.
  • the barrier layer is preferably a layer that is effective with regard to avoiding oxygen diffusion in order to prevent oxygen, such as oxygen from the ambient air, from penetrating into the packaging or through the substrate into the functional layer. It is particularly suitable here to form the barrier layer from aluminum or an aluminum alloy or to use a barrier layer which is at least aluminum-containing.
  • Substrates that have a barrier layer can be, for example, foils containing at least one layer or film made of polyvinyl chloride, of ethylene vinyl alcohol or containing at least one metallic layer or a layer of silicon oxides or aluminum oxides vapor-deposited in vacuo.
