Abstract

Zigarette, bei der das die Tabaksäule umgebende Papier diskrete Bereiche, insbesondere in Form von Bändern aufweist, welche mit dem Acetat eines Polysaccharids beladen sind und dadurch die Selbstverlöschungstendenz der Zigarette erhöhen, indem sie den Luftzutritt zur glühenden Tabaksäule vermindern, wobei das Polysaccharid Stärke ist.

Description

  • Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine Zigarette, bei der das die Tabaksäute umgebende Papier diskrete Bereiche, insbesondere in Form von Bändern aufweist, welche mit dem Acetat eines Polysaccharids beladen sind und dadurch die Selbstverlöschungstendenz der Zigarette erhöhen, indem sie den Luftzutritt zur glühenden Tabaksäule vermindern.
  • Aus der US Patentschrift 4,452,259 aus dem Jahre 1984 ist eine derartige Zigarette bekannt, bei welcher die brandhemmenden Bereiche mit Zelluloseacetat beladen sind. Die brandhemmende Wirkung von Zelluloseacetat beruht auf der Bildung eines luftundurchlässigen Filmes auf der Oberfläche des Papiers, der bei der Erhitzung entweder flüssig wird oder eine Art Kruste bildet. Die Verwendung dieser Substanz hat den Vorteil, dass sie keine zusätzliche Schädigung des Rauchers bewirkt und den einschlägigen Vorschriften entspricht.
  • Ein weiteres Beispiel einer gattungsgemäßen Zigarette ist aus der US 2005/0016556 bekannt.
  • Ausgangspunkt für die Erfindung war die Suche nach einer Alternative zu Zelluloseacetat. Diese wurde überraschenderweise in dem chemisch mit Zelluloseacetat verwandten Stärkeacetat gefunden. Während sich in der Verträglichkeit der Verbrennungsprodukte beim Übergang von Zelluloseacetat zu Stärkeacetat nichts ändert, ist es nun möglich, den Mechanismus der zur Selbstlöschung der Zigarette führt, grundsätzlich zu ändern*. Stärkeacetat lässt sich nämlich unter Verwendung üblicher Lösungsmittel und Auftragsverfahren weitgehend ins Innere des Papiers einbringen, sodass seine Wirkung insgesamt auf der Blockierung der Poren des Papiers und nicht auf der Abschirmung des Papiers durch einen äußeren Film beruht. Alle Nachteile derartiger Filme; welche die Oberfläche des Papiers nicht nur vom Aussehen her verändern, sind damit vermieden.
  • Anschließend werden Ausführungsbeispiele für die Herstellung eines erfindungsgemäßen Zigarettenpapiers beschrieben.
  • In den beiden folgenden Tabellen sind die wichtigsten Daten für zehn Ausführungsbeispiele (A-J) zusammengefasst. Tabelle 1:

  • Als Feststoff wurde in allen Drucklösungen ein Stärkeacetat (hochacetylierte Spezialstärke I09707-01, produziert aus Kartoffelstärke von Agrana AG) eingesetzt. Das Stärkeacetat wurde in ein Gemisch aus Ethanol (Produktnummer 32221, Riedel de Haen) und Essigsäureethylester (Produktnummer 33211, Riedel de Haen) möglichst schnell eingebracht und danach 30 Minuten mit einem Propellerrührer bei 2.800 U/min gerührt.
  • Die Papiere stammen von der Anmelderin und überdecken ein typisches Spektrum häufig verwendeter Zigarettenpapiere.
  • Der Auftrag des Materials auf das Papier erfolgt im Tiefdruckverfahren (auf einer Druckmaschine der Fa. Cerrutti) mit einer Geschwindigkeit von etwa 110 m/min und Trocknungstemperaturen zwischen 60°C und 125°C. Die Druckzylinder wurden chemisch geätzt.
  • Die aus den Papieren gefertigten Zigaretten wurde nach dem Testverfahren ASTM 2187-04b "Ignition Strength Test" getestet. Dabei wird eine glimmende Zigarette auf 10 Lagen eines Filterpapiers gelegt und festgestellt, ob die Zigarette auf dieser Unterlage verlöscht. Jeweils 40 Zigaretten wurden pro Ausführungsbeispiel getestet.
  • Die Dicke des Papiers im Bereich der bedruckten und unbedruckten Zonen unterscheidet sich im Mittel nur um nur 0.45 µm bei den Versuchen A-F und nur um 0.22 µm bei den Versuchen G-J, woraus geschlossen werden kann, dass tatsächlich der überwiegende Großteil des aufgetragenen Materials in die Papierstruktur eingedrungen ist und nicht als Film an der Oberfläche verbleibt, denn sonst würde die Dickenzunahme bei der aufgetragenen Menge mindestens 4 µm betragen.
  • Es zeigt sich in den Ausführungsbeispielen A-J, dass sowohl bei Veränderung des Flächengewichts, der Luftdurchlässigkeit des Papiers, des Füllstoffgehalts, der Art des Zellstoffs und auch der Breite der bedruckten Zonen die Tendenz zur Selbstverlöschung hoch ist.

Claims (2)

  1. Zigarette, bei der das die Tabaksäule umgebende Papier diskrete Bereiche, insbesondere in Form von Bändern aufweist, welche mit dem Acetat eines Polysaccharids beladen sind und dadurch die Selbstverlöschungstendenz der Zigarette erhöhen, indem sie den Luftzutritt zur glühenden Tabaksäule vermindern, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Polysaccharid Stärke ist.
  2. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Zigarettenpapiers zur Erzeugung einer Zigarette nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Stärkeacetat gelöst in einer Mischung aus Ethanol und Ethylacetat derart auf das Papier aufgetragen wird, dass es zumindest zum überwiegenden Teil in das Papier eindringt.
