- the saddle stitcher comprises a gathering area and a stitching unit.
- a cutting machine e.g. a three-knife trimmer, can be connected to the output of the stitching unit to cut the finished printed products to a required size.
- a printed product as a finished product which consists of at least one printed sheet, as e.g. a brochure, a magazine, etc. understood.
- the gathering area includes a number of sheet feeders which are arranged along a gathering chain and each place a printed sheet astride the gathering chain.
- a sheet feeder is eg in EP 1156003 A2 described.
- the gathering chain moves in the direction of the stitching unit. This direction of movement is called transport direction in the further description.
- Such collecting chains are eg in EP 1232978 B1 and in EP 1717176 A1 described.
- the first sheet feeder which is furthest removed from the stitching unit, places the innermost printing sheet of the printed product on the gathering chain.
- the subsequent sheet feeders place middle sheets on the gathering chain and the last sheet feeder closest to the stapler sets the top sheet. After this, the entire printed product is loosely put together, it becomes Stapled together in the stitching unit and forwarded to the cutting machine.
- the cutting machine then trims the front and / or the head and / or the foot of the stapled printed product together.
- a saddle stitching machine and a method of making an impact register are known.
- the machine is provided with at least one arranged in the transport direction behind a sheet feeder edge punching device, which produces after the laying of a printed sheet consisting of printed product at its longitudinal edges punched.
- stamping in post-press is the splitting of materials in a parting line deviating from the straight line, with the cuts and cuts made either openly or with self-contained boundary lines.
- stamping in post-press is the splitting of materials in a parting line deviating from the straight line, with the cuts and cuts made either openly or with self-contained boundary lines.
- This device and the corresponding method have for certain applications, such as for advertising purposes, the property that always the entire printed product is uniformly punched.
- EP 0698451 A1 For example, a method and apparatus for trimming flat printed products along a predetermined cutting line are known.
- a head, foot and front cut is made by means of two knives, wherein the knives are moved in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the printed products direction with each other.
- the object of the invention is to provide a method and a saddle stitcher, which minimize the logistical effort in providing specially trimmed printed sheets.
- a method is first claimed in which a printed sheet of a printed product is processed along a gathering chain of a saddle stitcher by cutting one leg of the printed sheet astride the stitching chain by a cutting element.
- a saddle stitcher is described, comprising a gathering chain, a number of sheet feeders, a stitching unit and at least one cutting element for trimming printed sheets laid on the gathering chain.
- the significant advantage of the method and the associated saddle stitcher is the elimination of a number of pre-production steps of the printing sheets by a cutting operation embedded in the collecting process of the printing sheets.
- the logistical effort to provide pre-printed sheets at the right time and at the right sheet feeder is significantly reduced.
- the cutting of the printed sheets achieves a very good quality of cut with regard to product thickness and formate, whereby the quality of the cut is ensured, inter alia, by a high degree of straightness, avoidance of a scallop and avoidance of an undercut. In this case, both an outer and an inner contour of the printed product are produced with the same quality of cut. Such a quality can not be achieved even with a punching of a single sheet. When editing several sheets simultaneously, it deteriorates significantly.

- Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a saddle stitcher 18 according to the present invention.
- Sheet 14 are successively deposited by sheet feeders 2 a, 2 b and 2 c astride and superimposed on a gathering chain 1 and conveyed in a transport direction 5.
- An innermost, laid by the sheet feeder 2a on the gathering sheets 14 is then cut by a first cutting element 3a during transport.
- a middle and a top sheet 14 of the sheet feeders 2 b and 2 c are placed on the innermost sheet 14.
- the thus collected printed product 7 undergoes further trimming by a second cutting element 3b.
- the printed product 7 or its respective printed sheet 14 is raised over an erecting line 4 such that its front leg 19 is in a cutting plane between an upper and a lower knife 10, 11 at a substantially right angle to one of the two knives formed knife level is.
- the thus finished finished printed product 7 is fed to a stitching unit 6.
- Fig. 2 shows, according to a preferred embodiment of the saddle stitcher 18 according to the present invention, a cross section through a cutting element 3a.
- a drive 8 moves either one of two cranks 12 on the other or both cranks 12 toward each other, so that a sheet to be cut 14 is held by these to ensure safe and accurate positioning of the sheet 14.
- a remotely controllable motor 15 aligns the cutting element 3 a in the vertical and / or horizontal direction such that a plane of the upper and lower blades 10, 11 is substantially perpendicular to the sheet 14 to be cut.
- a control unit 16 takes over a synchronization of the cutting element 3a with the preceding sheet feeder 2a. Connecting lines of the control unit 16 are not shown here for reasons of clarity.
- the control unit 16 exchanges a number of parameters with a central control system (not shown here) in order to determine currently set values, such as a frequency of applying printed sheets 14 to the gathering chain 1, for a subsequent cutting process. As soon as these required values are present and a manufacturing process starts, the control unit 16 triggers the cutting process for each incoming printed sheet 14 by corresponding activation of the drive 8.
- Fig. 3 shows a side view of the cutting element 3a Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 a cross section of a gathering chain 1 at the position of the cutting element 3a.
- the sheet feeder 2a is positioned behind the cutting element 3a and places the printing sheet 14 astride the collecting chain 1.
- a longitudinal edge of the printing sheet 14 is located on a ridge 13 of the collecting chain 1.
- the printed sheet 14 is raised over the erecting section 4 in such a way that that its front leg 19 is located in the cutting plane between the upper and lower blades 10, 11.
- the printed sheet 14 or the printed product 7 on the ridge 13 of the gathering chain 1 ie above its back, be held by a arranged in this area, synchronously mit Anlagendes, not shown upper band in position.
- the method allows to individually cut a plurality of printed sheets 14, in other words, selected printed sheets 14 each receive a different cut.
- one or more cutting elements 3a, 3b can be positioned at corresponding positions between two sheet feeders 2a, 2b, 2c.
- at least one sheet feeder 2a, 2b, 2c is displaced along the gathering chain 1 to fill gaps between the sheet feeders 2a, 2b, 2c to close and / or to make room for the cutting element 3a, 3b.
- a plurality of cutting elements 3a, 3b are used, they are positioned such that a cutting element 3a is located between two of the sheet feeders 2a, 2b, 2c. Depending on the requirements of the number of individual cuts a corresponding number of cutting elements 3a, 3b are used.
- an alignment of the cutting element 3a with respect to the gathering chain 1 is adjustable.

- the leg of the printing sheet 14 can be cut in its length, for a specific cutting request, obliquely with respect to the vertical plane 20 through the gathering chain 1.
- a cut parallel to the ridge 13 is achieved by aligning the upper and lower blades 10, 11 parallel to the plane 20.
- the cutting element 3a is transiatorisch in a direction perpendicular to the transport direction 5 displaced, in such a way that the upper and lower blades 10, 11 are always substantially perpendicular to the surface to be cut of the sheet 14.
- This type of alignment has the advantage that different widths of the leg of individual printed sheets 14 of a printed product 2 can be realized. The more the cutting element 3a is moved "outwards", ie away from the gathering chain 1, the front leg 19 of the printing sheet is moved 14 after the trimming increasingly wider and vice versa, the more the cutting element 3a to "inside", so the gathering chain 1 out, is moved, the front leg 19 of the sheet 14 after trimming increasingly narrower.
- each cutting element 3a comprises at least one remotely controllable motor 15 which adjusts the orientation of the cutting element 3a with respect to the vertical plane 20 of the gathering chain 1.
- the motor 15 allows a comfortable horizontal and / or vertical orientation of the cutting element 3a without direct action of the staff.
- both the front leg 19 and a rear leg 21 of the printed sheet 14 are simultaneously trimmed, each by a cutting element.
- a preferred embodiment of the saddle stitcher 18 includes two cutting elements which are vertical with respect to the gathering chain 1 extending plane 20 are arranged opposite one another.
- the described embodiments allow a variety of design options for the printed product 7 while minimizing a number of pre-printed sheet 14 and an additional reduction in production time by trimming the sheet 14 during the compilation of the entire printed product. 7

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for processing at least one printed sheet of a printed product along a gathering chain of a saddle stitcher and a saddle stitcher for performing the method, according to the preamble of the independent claims.
In the field of post-press, a saddle stitcher is a machine for collecting, stapling and trimming printed sheets. In certain applications where a sheet is to be cut to a different size than subsequent sheets, these sheets must be pre-produced and trimmed accordingly. Such a method is associated with a considerable logistical effort, since a smooth synchronization of all necessary steps must be ensured so that the specially cut sheets are available in a timely manner and transported to the right place, ie to the right sheet feeder become. This procedure is necessary because the cutting machine can cut only the entire printed product, but not individual sheets.
The object of the invention is to provide a method and a saddle stitcher, which minimize the logistical effort in providing specially trimmed printed sheets.
The object is achieved according to the invention by the features of the independent claims. Accordingly, a method is first claimed in which a printed sheet of a printed product is processed along a gathering chain of a saddle stitcher by cutting one leg of the printed sheet astride the stitching chain by a cutting element. Furthermore, a saddle stitcher is described, comprising a gathering chain, a number of sheet feeders, a stitching unit and at least one cutting element for trimming printed sheets laid on the gathering chain.
The significant advantage of the method and the associated saddle stitcher is the elimination of a number of pre-production steps of the printing sheets by a cutting operation embedded in the collecting process of the printing sheets. Thus, the logistical effort to provide pre-printed sheets at the right time and at the right sheet feeder is significantly reduced. This results in a further advantage, which consists in the flexibility with regard to the layout of the printed products, namely a large number of individual design options for the individual printed sheets. Furthermore, the cutting of the printed sheets achieves a very good quality of cut with regard to product thickness and formate, whereby the quality of the cut is ensured, inter alia, by a high degree of straightness, avoidance of a scallop and avoidance of an undercut. In this case, both an outer and an inner contour of the printed product are produced with the same quality of cut. Such a quality can not be achieved even with a punching of a single sheet. When editing several sheets simultaneously, it deteriorates significantly.
In a preferred embodiment, the cutting element is optionally arranged after one or more of the sheet feeder. In other words, printed sheets are successively deposited on the collecting chain by means of a plurality of sheet feeder and the cutting element is arranged after at least one sheet feeder, so that a sequence of sheet feeders and at least one cutting element is formed. The position of the cutting element within the sequence is changed according to the sheet to be cut. Accordingly, the cutting element is positioned either between two sheet feeders or in the transport direction behind the last sheet feeder.

Preferably, the method allows to individually cut a plurality of printed
Furthermore, there is the possibility of printing all printed
In a further preferred embodiment, an alignment of the cutting
The cutting
Further, another degree of freedom of alignment is that the cutting
In a preferred embodiment of the
