Definitions
- the invention relates to a Fa-Iz process with which a paper web printed with standing pages is processed in a web offset printing process, including the production of the second longitudinal fold.
- the invention further relates to an apparatus for performing the method.
- the direction of the paper (preferred grain direction in the paper), which results from the working direction of the paper machine during the production of the paper, is generally selected as the direction of the paper web.
- the paper web should be printed with upright pages, in which the flange webs are arranged parallel to the direction of paper travel.
- the folding after the printing then results in a page arrangement in e.g. a book with which the formation of waves in the bundle can be avoided due to the favorable direction of paper travel, especially in the case of adhesive bound brochures
- the books can be opened very well.
- Printing with standing pages requires the Folding a folding scheme, after which a first longitudinal fold is first carried out, a longitudinal cut or a longitudinal perforation being previously made in the break of the first longitudinal fold.
- the double-lying paper web produced by the first longitudinal fold is then perforated in the break of the first transverse fold and then cross-cut.
- the cross-cut products are collected and folded. The products then receive the second longitudinal fold.
- a similar procedure is used for products that come from strand fold groups.
- the closed, possibly perforated transverse fold break creates so-called pinch folds, although the paper is folded around a neutral phase.
- the cause of the pinch folds lies in the product thickness.
- the outer layers are stretched; the stretching is compensated for by a shift of the layers to one another.
- the inner layers experience a compression for which no compensation is possible because the closed transverse break edge or top side of the cross-folded product does not allow any relative movement of the individual product layers.
- the pinch folds reduce the quality of the printed product to such an extent that currently no such production is carried out.
- the object of the invention is to pinch folds in the second Longitudinal folding device to be excluded.
- pinch folds 21 are shown in the product shown, which are to be prevented according to the invention.
- the folding device according to FIG. 1 which has been set up for the purposes of the invention, essentially has the former roller 1, the folding former 2, the cutting or longitudinal perforation device 3, inlet rollers 4, paper guide rollers 5, pulling rollers 6, the transverse perforating device 7, the pair of pulling rollers 8 with a longitudinal perforating device, a cutting cylinder 9, the groove-folding knife cylinder 10, the folding jaw cylinder 11 and the folding drum 15, the folding roller 16 and the paddle wheel 17 for the second longitudinal fold.
- holes 14, preferably — viewed in plan view — square holes are punched into the paper web 13 in the paper web 13 transversely to the running direction of the machine, webs 18 remaining next to the holes.
- Four webs with a width of 1 to 3 cm are preferably selected. Holes with a length of 50 to 120 mm are expediently perforated and webs with a length of 10 to 30 mm are left.
- the holes 14 and webs 18 are arranged in the paper web in the region of the head web 12 of the first transverse fold.
- the hole and web distribution as well as the dimensions of these elements are chosen so that only so much webs remain that the introduction of the first transverse fold is possible, ie there should be as few webs as possible which should also be kept as short as possible .
- At least one glue strip 30 (FIGS. 2, 3) is applied to the paper web in the region of the second longitudinal fold 19 in such a way that the webs of the paper web 13 brought together through the glue track be held together.
- the glue track is expediently applied before or during the formation of the first longitudinal fold.
- the paper web provided with the first longitudinal fold can be wire or thread-stitched in the region of the break edge 19 of the second longitudinal fold.
- the sizing, wire or thread stitching is not shown separately in the drawing because devices for such methods are known and are used for similar purposes.
- the cross-folded product 20 cannot be longitudinally folded without the pinch folds 21 occurring.
- the invention therefore provides that the webs are removed before the second longitudinal fold is carried out. This is expediently carried out when the cross-folded product 20 is clamped in the jaw cylinder 11.
- This state is shown schematically in FIG. 3, the product 20 being indicated with only two layers 22, 23 for the sake of a better overview.
- the folding blade 24 of the folding blade cylinder 10 has pushed the product into the slot 25 of the folding jaw cylinder 11.
- a milling or cutting device 27 protruding into the slot 25 and rotating about the axis 26 is arranged in the jaw cylinder 11, the cutting elements 28 of which remove the webs 18 when the clamping elements 29 hold the product 20 in place.
- the product 20 is folded over and is used to carry out the second length fold led. Due to the previous sizing or stitching, the layers of the product / are sufficiently fixed so that the layers are prevented from moving during further processing. When the second longitudinal fold is formed, pinch folds can no longer occur because the head region of the product is cut free or open.
- the performance options of known folding devices can thus be fully used and z. B. 32-, 64- or even higher-sided products can be provided with a second longitudinal fold without pinch fold formation.
- the device according to FIG. 4 shows a separating device 31 for removing the webs 18, which interacts with a belt guide 32 known per se, which consists of a plurality of belts arranged at a lateral distance from one another.
- the separating device 31 has a plurality of knife carrier cylinders 33 and knife bar cylinders 34 which are arranged laterally next to one another and known per se, which sit in the gaps between the bands of the band guide 32 and whose cutting devices remove the webs 18 of the cross-folded product 20, the transport of the products 20 in this way takes place that the webs 18 are in the gaps between the bands.
- FIG. 5 Another useful device for removing the webs 18 is shown schematically in Figure 5. It is the stop 35 against which the product 20 is moved in a manner known per se before the second longitudinal fold indicated by the arrow 36 is introduced. Below the stop 35 is a knife bar 37 arranged, which projects beyond the stop 35 in the direction of the product. A punching knife 38 is located above the protruding part of the knife bar 37, the cutting edge of which removes the webs 18.
- magazine products z. B. can be 32-, 64- or higher sided, without producing creases in-line.
- the production capacity of a rotary machine for the direct processing of the printed products can thus be fully utilized.

- the excellent idea to carry out the stitching of the product in the area of the fold edge for the second longitudinal fold and the removal of the top web of the cross-folded product directly after the fold of the first transverse fold brings such considerable advantages that the entire magazine production must process the thick layers is revolutionized.
- the prior art does not provide any suggestion for achieving the object according to the invention.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a Fa-Iz process with which a paper web printed with standing pages is processed in a web offset printing process, including the production of the second longitudinal fold. The invention further relates to an apparatus for performing the method.
In the web offset printing process, the direction of the paper (preferred grain direction in the paper), which results from the working direction of the paper machine during the production of the paper, is generally selected as the direction of the paper web. The consequence of this is that the paper web should be printed with upright pages, in which the flange webs are arranged parallel to the direction of paper travel. The folding after the printing then results in a page arrangement in e.g. a book with which the formation of waves in the bundle can be avoided due to the favorable direction of paper travel, especially in the case of adhesive bound brochures The books can be opened very well.
Printing with standing pages requires the Folding a folding scheme, after which a first longitudinal fold is first carried out, a longitudinal cut or a longitudinal perforation being previously made in the break of the first longitudinal fold. The double-lying paper web produced by the first longitudinal fold is then perforated in the break of the first transverse fold and then cross-cut. The cross-cut products are collected and folded. The products then receive the second longitudinal fold. A similar procedure is used for products that come from strand fold groups.
Above a certain production strength or when using thick papers, however, a serious, long-known, previously unsolvable problem arises in the production of the second longitudinal fold. The closed, possibly perforated transverse fold break creates so-called pinch folds, although the paper is folded around a neutral phase. The cause of the pinch folds lies in the product thickness. In the case of very thick products, the outer layers are stretched; the stretching is compensated for by a shift of the layers to one another. The inner layers experience a compression for which no compensation is possible because the closed transverse break edge or top side of the cross-folded product does not allow any relative movement of the individual product layers. The pinch folds reduce the quality of the printed product to such an extent that currently no such production is carried out. Rather, one switches to the more expensive, 2 x 16-page production of the printing on the paper web with lying pages, because the folding scheme to be used without ge closed fold edges works. Although this gives the advantage of producing a large number of pages from one revolution of the cylinder, there is the disadvantage that book binding is difficult due to the unfavorable direction of the paper in relation to the position of the flange webs. The products hit hard, show tension and become wavy.
In order to counter the problem shown, attempts have been made to arrange specially designed perforation forms on the head side of the last transverse fold. However, this approach has not led to success; the pinch folds are only relocated to where the open parts of the breaking edge created by the special transverse perforation merge into the closed parts.
The problem shown arises, for. B. also in magazine production in web-fed rotary printing with standing pages and a second longitudinal folding device. In addition, the problem of wire stitching in the cross fold in the in-line process has not yet been solved. Rather, wire stitching must be done off-line in a saddle stitcher. This requires numerous process steps that make production more expensive. The DIN-A-4 product delivered from the rotary printing press is palletized and temporarily stored. It is then gathered in collating machines, the second longitudinal fold having to be opened in order to be able to carry out the wire stitching.
The object of the invention is to pinch folds in the second Longitudinal folding device to be excluded.

In FIG. 2,
The folding device according to FIG. 1, which has been set up for the purposes of the invention, essentially has the former roller 1, the folding former 2, the cutting or longitudinal perforation device 3, inlet rollers 4, paper guide rollers 5, pulling rollers 6, the transverse perforating device 7, the pair of
According to the invention,
According to the invention, at least one glue strip 30 (FIGS. 2, 3) is applied to the paper web in the region of the second
Despite the
After the
The device according to FIG. 4 shows a separating
Another useful device for removing the
The implementation of the invention for an in-line production of magazines can be seen in Figure 6. From the
With the combination of known devices according to the invention it is thus possible to magazine products z. B. can be 32-, 64- or higher sided, without producing creases in-line. The production capacity of a rotary machine for the direct processing of the printed products can thus be fully utilized. There has long been a considerable need for such a method. Although the invention combined devices for years and are known in the printing companies often he turns y, they have not yet been compiled for the line in-production of magazines. The excellent idea to carry out the stitching of the product in the area of the fold edge for the second longitudinal fold and the removal of the top web of the cross-folded product directly after the fold of the first transverse fold brings such considerable advantages that the entire magazine production must process the thick layers is revolutionized. The prior art does not provide any suggestion for achieving the object according to the invention.
