Definitions
- the present invention relates to a vacuum cleaner that can be carried easily by the user.
- the handles situated on vacuum cleaners allow the user to lift and carry the vacuum cleaner.
- the vacuum cleaner can be carried horizontally or vertically depending on the place wherein the handle is secured to the vacuum cleaner body. However, carrying the vacuum cleaner by holding it from the handle requires the user to stoop down and this may cause various back aches.
- the appliance changes to the vertical position.
- the appliance can be stored in the vertical position when not in use.
- the handle also serves as a bumper.
- the foldable handle is comprised of pivotally connected upper and lower parts that are secured on the floor treating apparatus.
- the upper part is folded over the lower part and is held from the handle disposed on the folded place.
- a handle provided on the body is explained that can move telescopically and vertically.
- the handle concealed inside the body while the vacuum cleaner operates, is pulled out from the body when the user wants to carry the vacuum cleaner and enables the vacuum cleaner to be carried easily.
- a handle is pivotally mounted at the body of a vacuum cleaner wherein the handle can be moved between three different working positions.
- the aim of the present invention is the realization of a vacuum cleaner which shows good handling properties and whereby the locking mechanism is of a simpler construction.
- the vacuum cleaner realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is defined in claim 1.
- the bumper extends along the body to almost surround the body and when lifted up provides the user to carry the vacuum cleaner on wheels like a suitcase.
- the bumper is attached to arms that are pivotably secured on the body.
- the bumper can make sliding or turning movement on the body by means of these arms.
- the bumper acquires movement flexibility.
- the bumper is pivotably attached to the arms.
- the bumper can move in two axes that are parallel to each other by mounting the arms pivotably on the body and the bumper pivotably to the arms. Accordingly, the bumper can move fractionally in two different axes by being pivoted from two points on the body.
- the bumper and the arm move telescopically with respect to one another.
- the bumper opens, closes by making a rectilinear movement with respect to the arm.
- the vacuum cleaner comprises a second bumper secured on the body, providing the body to be surrounded entirely by integrating to the first bumper.
- the bumper serves both to protect the body from impacts and also for carrying without requiring an additional cost.
- the movement of the bumper provides the vacuum cleaner to be carried by the user more ergonomically. Carrying the vacuum cleaner preferably on the rear wheels decreases the power expended by the user and prevents probable aches in the back and arms.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) of the present invention comprises a body (2) wherein the motor-fan unit (not shown in the figures) and the dust chamber (not shown in the figures) are placed and wheels (4) disposed on the base of the body (2) for allowing the body (2) to move easily on the floor.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises a "U” or “C” shaped bumper (3) pivotably mounted on the body (2),
- the bumper (3) both serves to protect (protection position) and also to carry the vacuum cleaner (1) by lifting off the floor (carrying position) or pulling to drag on wheels (4) like a suitcase (pulling position). Dragging the vacuum cleaner (1) on wheels (4) without lifting off the floor eliminates the need for the user to carry the vacuum cleaner (1) and obviates the probable backaches.
- the bumper (3) extends along the body (2) and acts as a protector that prevents the body (2) from damages as a result of the body (2) bumping into other objects.
- the bumper (3) In the carrying position when the vacuum cleaner (1) is intended to be carried from one place to the other by lifting off the floor, the bumper (3) is held by the user for lifting.
- the bumper (3) is changed from the horizontal to the vertical position by the rotation or displacement of the point of securing to the body (2), the center of gravity of the bumper (3) and the vacuum cleaner (1) overlap.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) can be lifted off the floor in a balanced manner for carrying.
- the bumper (3) When the vacuum cleaner (1) is intended to be carried by dragging on the wheels (4) in the pulling position, the bumper (3) is changed from the vertical position to the carrying position by the rotation or displacement of the point of securing to the body (2). The bumper (3) allows the vacuum cleaner (1) to be carried by dragging on wheels (4) in this position.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises two arms (5) parallel to each other that are pivotably secured on both sides of the body (2) remaining on the same axis and rotating around an axis, and whereon the bumper (3) is mounted.
- the bumper (3) is secured pivotably to the arms (5) and similarly the arms (5) are pivotably secured on the body (2).
- the point from which the bumper (3) is pivotably secured to the arms (5) is virtually in the center of gravity of the vacuum cleaner (1) and the bumper (3) can rotate approximately 180[deg.] around the point of connection to the arms (5) without the arms (5) moving.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises a locking mechanism (6) having a pin (8) each at the point the bumper (3) is secured to the arms (5) and a channel (7) each on both sides of the body (2) wherein the pin (8) is fitted.
- the channel (7) is preferably configured semi-circularly, with the end on the side the arms (5) are secured to the body (2) being open and the other end closed.
- the pin (8) maintains the bumper (3) to be guided by moving in the channel (7).
- the pin (8) stays in the channel (7) when the arms (5) are in the horizontal position and while the bumper (3) makes a rotational movement.
- the pin (8) bears against the closed end of the channel (7) and maintains the bumper (3) to remain stationary in that position.
- the angle between the arms (5) and the bumper (3) is almost 180° and the bumper (3) is connected to the body (2) from two points by means of the channel (7) on the arms (5) wherein the pin (8) is fitted and also from the point wherefrom it is secured to the body (2) ( Figure 1 and Figure 5 ).
- the bumper (3) When the vacuum cleaner (1) is wanted to be lifted off the floor by the user, the bumper (3) is moved from the protection position towards the carrying position. During this movement, the bumper (3) gets closer to the line passing through the center of gravity of the vacuum cleaner (1). When the user brings the bumper (3) to approximately 90°, the bumper (3) is almost aligned with the line passing through the center of gravity, and when the vacuum cleaner (1) is lifted, the pin (8) bears against the channel (7) thereby allowing the user to lift off the vacuum cleaner (1) from the floor for carrying. During this movement, the arms (5) do not move and only the bumper (3) moves. In this position, the weight of the vacuum cleaner (1) is carried by the bumper (3), thus the pin (8) and the channel (7) whereto the pin (8) bears against ( Figure 2 and Figure 6 ).
- the bumper (3) is rotated around the point of pivoting to the arms (5) up to the open end of the channel (7).
- the pin (8) corresponds to the open end of the channel (7) and when the user continues to pull the bumper (3), the pin (8) is detached from the open end of the channel (7) and the bumper (3) makes a displacement movement along with the rotational movement ( Figure 3 , Figure 4 and Figure 7 ).
- the arms (5) connected to the bumper (3) rotate around the point of connection to the body (2) when the bumper (3) makes the displacement movement.
- the bumper (3) continues to move with the arms (5) from hereon.
- the movement of the bumper (3) is stopped at a position where the user does not need to stoop and the user can carry the vacuum cleaner (1) by pulling on wheels (4).
- the bumper (3) and the arm (5) move telescopically with respect to each other by being fitted into each other.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises an additional bumper secured on the body (2).
- the additional bumper maintains to entirely surround the body (2) by being integrated with the "U” or "C” shaped bumper (3).
- the arms (5) comprise a stopper each that provide the bumper (3) to be in the same direction as itself in the horizontal position.
- the outer portion of the bumper (3) is produced of plastic material.
- the bumper (3) can properly serve to protect the body (2) from impacts.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) comprises a housing (not shown in the figures) on each side of the body (2) that extend along the body (2) and a projection each (not shown in the figures) for the bumper (3) to be fitted in the housing and to make both rotational and displacement movements inside the housing.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) furthermore comprises a locking mechanism that prevents the bumper (3) from making a displacement movement in the carrying or pulling position and to stay in that position unless an additional force is exerted thereon.
- the bumper (3) moves along the housing by means of the projections.
- the bumper (3) is initially at the protection position. It is pulled by the user when intended to change to the carrying position. During this movement, the bumper (3) slides in the housing. Upon reaching almost the center of the housing, the projections bear against the locking mechanism situated therein.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) can be carried by lifting off the floor when the bumper (3) is changed from this position to the carrying position by the user.
- the projection bears against the housing wall and the vacuum cleaner (1) can be carried by lifting off the floor.
- the projections slide towards the end of the housing and bear against the end of the housing. In this position, the projection bears against the end of the housing and the vacuum cleaner (1) can be pulled on the wheels (4) as the user pulls by holding from the bumper (3).
- the bumper (3) is enabled to serve both for protecting the body (2) from impacts and also for carrying without an additional element and thus an additional cost.
- the vacuum cleaner (1) can be carried by entirely lifting off the floor or carrying ergonomically by pulling on wheels (4) like a suitcase.
