Wird nun die Restbahn gespannt bzw. gestrafft, und zwar nur in einem Randbereich benachbart zum Überführstreifen, wellt sich die Restbahn im Innenbereich unverändert, d.h. die Papierbahn hat die Tendenz sich dort zusammenzuziehen. Dadurch dreht sich die Restbahn aus der Straffvorrichtung heraus und bewegt sich von der Überführklappe weg.
