Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a punching device according to the preamble of claim 1 and a method of operating it according to claim 12.
  • a generic punching device and a corresponding operating method are from the DE-A-103 17 015 known.
  • Other generic devices are also in the EP-B-0 773 856 , of the EP-A-1 378 330 and the WO-A-85/01241 and in the non-prepublished European patent application no. 05 020 381 ( EP-A-1 764 194 ).
  • the material sheet to be cut is placed between two wedge-shaped, hollow cylindrical punching blades in the profile.
  • the punching blades are movable against each other for punching. Stops or suitable control ensure that they can not touch each other in their final position. In this way, with the exception of a thin core, the sheet of material is symmetrically cut from two sides.
  • the blank is broken out of the sheet of material by means of a punch-like core, which is arranged in one of the knives.
  • a punch-like core which is arranged in one of the knives.
  • Such devices have the advantage that the punching blades do not wear as easily as, for example, the complete punching through the sheet of material.
  • the punching knife encounters a base.
  • burrs in the region of the top or bottom of the blank edges can be reduced.
  • Such ridges occur, for example, in die-die cutting due to the lateral displacement of the sheet material by the knife.
  • the knife contours defined by the knife crowns are identical in the known punching devices.
  • the contour cut at the top of the sheet of material is congruent with the contour cut at the bottom.
  • punched plastic cards e.g. As bank, credit or chip cards or as identity cards, data page in the passport or driver's license to be used, the generally normalized length and width must comply very closely.
  • the format of credit cards is described in ISO 7810 standard.
  • the cut edges must be smooth with no burrs and no tangible roughness. Because burrs can be used especially for hard plastics such as Polycarbonate during the manufacturing process, the other cards scratch, which should be avoided, since the function of the card can be affected. Furthermore, burrs may cause read errors in later use in card readers, e.g. by hanging the card. In addition, the card should feel comfortable to use. In practice, it has been shown that the quality of the cut edges often does not meet these requirements, even in the generic stamping methods described above.
  • the causes of impaired cutting edges are inter alia the ever-present flexibility of the sheet material or blank.
  • the sheet material bends easily when penetrating the punching knife. Even with precisely aligned first and second knives, therefore, it can not be pushed through the second knife so that the second knife only the soul is severed.
  • the knife edge of the second knife already touches and scratches the portion of the cutting edge already cut by the first knife, even with the smallest offset of the blank relative to the second knife, or planes off this material. This occurs especially in punching devices with an opening extending in the punching direction for piercing the blank, for example according to EP-A-1 378 330 , Because of the opening, the sheet support offers little resistance to the bending of the material sheet during punching.
  • the invention is based on the object of specifying a punching device of the type mentioned, in which blanks with improved quality of the cut edges can be produced.
  • two hollow cylindrical punching knives are used.
  • One of the punching knives is stamped.
  • the second punching knife and its associated carrier device have in the punching direction a through opening through which the blank can be ejected by means of the punch. In this way succeeds an efficient removal of the blanks, without the blades must perform more than the necessary relative to the insertion and punching of the sheet relative stroke.
  • the knife crowns of the punching blades define a first or second knife contour, which essentially corresponds to the outline of the blank to be produced.
  • the knife contours are not exactly identical. Instead, the contour of the stamped knife (first knife contour) is slightly smaller than that of the counter knife (second knife contour).
  • first knife contour in the projection on the punching plane or perpendicular to the punching direction is at least partially, preferably completely, within the second knife contour.
  • the first knife contour at all points by 10-100 microns, more preferably spaced by 30-50 microns from the second knife contour.
  • the result is a blank which has a visible in the optical microscope, but not visible to the naked eye and not palpable lateral paragraph of 10-100 microns width in the cutting edge.
  • a plastic card with such a profile meets the requirements of ISO 7810.
  • the quality of the cut edge is further improved by the punch, which is preferably designed to be complementary to the punch knives, has a flat end face with a raised peripheral edge. This results in the force acting on the blank being concentrated on the edge of the blank.
  • the raised edge and the This hollow area formed between the card and stamp also serves not to damage the card surface during the stamping process. In particular on the card existing security features such as holograms are thereby spared.
  • the penetration depth of the first knife is preferably set by the stamp is lockable relative to the first punching knife at a predetermined distance from the knife crown. It therefore forms a stop for the material sheet, which prevents further penetration of the knife. At the same time it also prevents bending of the material sheet. This ensures that it is cut substantially perpendicular to the surface of the sheet, thus also improving the cut edge quality.
  • the stamp is designed such that air trapped between the stamp and the sheet of material or the blank can escape. This measure also serves to prevent the bending of the sheet and thus the improvement of the cut edge quality.
  • extending between a front surface and a rear surface of the punch vent holes are provided.
  • the sheet is preferably fed in such a way that it can interact with the punching knives largely unhindered and in particular does not bend before or during punching.
  • the punching device is designed so that the movement of the sheet in the punching direction in normal operation not limited by stops.
  • the drive of the punching blade relative to each other is preferably realized so that the punching depth or the stroke of the punching blade can be adjusted without stopping only by means of a suitable control of the drive.
  • a Wegbegrenzer is present as a safety feature, which prevents the collision of the punching blade in case of failure of the controller by ensuring a minimum distance of the punching knife. This minimum distance is preferably maintained solely by suitable control of the blade movement.
  • the punching method according to the invention comprises the production of a blank with a shoulder on the cutting edge. This is preferably circumscribing the blank and has a width of about 10-100 microns, preferably about 30-50 microns.
  • a plastic card preferably produced by the punching method according to the invention has an upper side, a lower side and side surfaces formed by the cutting edge, wherein the underside is larger than the upper side and the side surfaces in profile a paragraph or a step with a width of preferably about 10-100 microns exhibit.

  • the knife receiving plates 20 ', 22' can accommodate a plurality of blades 10, 12 side by side. In a blade change, the punching blades 10, 12 are removed and replaced together with their blade receiving plates 20 ', 22'.
  • the carrier device 22 is fixedly connected to the frame 40, while the first punching blade 10 and its carrier device 20 can be moved by means of a suitable drive 36 in the punching direction S and thereby executes a stroke H.
  • the stroke H is adjusted either via stops, not shown here, wherein the drive 36 in this case need not necessarily be adjustable to perform a predetermined stroke.
  • the drive is an electrically controllable, pneumatically or hydraulically operated lifting device whose stroke H is adjusted by means of a control device 42, and in small steps, e.g. in 0.02 mm increments, can be changed.
  • the stroke H is preferably between about 4 and 6 mm.
  • stops may also be present as a security feature, which ensure a predetermined minimum distance of the punching blades 10, 12.
