Abstract
Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polymeren durch Sprühpolymerisation, wobei die wässrige Monomerlösung mindestens einen Verdränger enthält, so dass sich das Polymer während der Polymerisation aus der wässrigen Lösung abscheidet, darüber hinaus wasserlösliche oder wasserquellbare Zusammensetzungen sowie deren Verwendung zur Verdickung und/oder Absorption von Flüssigkeiten.

Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polymeren durch Sprühpolymerisation
Beschreibung
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polymeren durch Sprühpolymerisation, darüber hinaus wasserlösliche oder wasserquellbare Zusammen¬ setzungen sowie deren Verwendung zur Verdickung und/oder Absorption von Flüssig¬ keiten.
Weitere Ausführungsformen der vorliegenden Erfindung sind den Ansprüchen, der Be¬ schreibung und den Beispielen zu entnehmen. Es versteht sich, dass die vorstehend genannten und die nachstehend noch zu erläuternden Merkmale des erfindungsgemä¬ ßen Gegenstandes nicht nur in der jeweils angegebenen Kombination, sondern auch in anderen Kombinationen verwendbar sind, ohne den Rahmen der Erfindung zu verlas- sen.
US-A-4,380,600, EP-A-O 183 466 und WO-A-97/34933 beschreiben Verfahren zur Herstellung von wässrigen Dispersionen von wasserlöslichen Polymeren mit hohem Feststoffgehalt. Die Polymerdispersionen weisen gegenüber Polymerlösungen mit ver- gleichbarem Feststoffgehalt eine deutlich niedrigere Viskosität auf.
Die EP-A-O 398 151 beschreibt die zweistufige Herstellung polymerer Verdicker. In einer ersten Stufe wird durch Polymerisation eine wässrige Polymerlösung oder - dispersion hergestellt, die in einer zweiten Stufe sprühgetrocknet wird.
Die GB-A-O 777 306 beschreibt die Herstellung von Polymeren durch Sprühpolymer¬ isation. Die Reaktion wird durch Amide, wie Acrylamid, Acetamid und partiell hydroly- siertes Polyacrylnitril, katalysiert. In den Beispielen wurden 0,7 bis 1 ,1 Gew.-%, bezo¬ gen auf die Monomerlösung, eines Polymerisationskatalysators eingesetzt. Die PoIy- mere können auch als Verdicker für synthetische Harzdisperionen verwendet werden.
Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung war die Bereitstellung eines verbesserten Verfah¬ rens zur Herstellung von Polymeren sowie wasserlösliche bzw. wasserquellbare Zu¬ sammensetzungen, die sich in wässrigen Flüssigkeiten schnell lösen bzw. schnell quel- len.
Die Aufgabe wurde gelöst durch ein Verfahren zur Sprühpolymerisation, wobei eine Monomerlösung, enthaltend
a) mindestens ein wasserlösliches ethylenisch ungesättigtes Monomer, b) mindestens einen Initiators und c) Wasser,
in einen Reaktionsraum versprüht und polymerisiert wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Monomerlösung zusätzlich mindestens einen Verdränger d) enthält, wobei der Verdränger
d1) 5 bis 50 Gew.-% mindestens eines wasserlöslichen Polymeren, d2) 1 bis 40 Gew.-% mindestens eines wasserlöslichen Salzes,
jeweils bezogen auf die Monomerlösung, oder eine Mischung aus Verdränger d1) und d2) ist.
Ein Verdränger ist ein Stoff oder eine Mischung unterschiedlicher Stoffe, der bzw. die gut wasserlöslich ist sowie die Löslichkeit des nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfah¬ ren erhältlichen Polymeren in der wässrigen Lösung herabsetzt.
Die Löslichkeit der Verdränger beträgt typischerweise mindestens 1 g/100 g Wasser, vorzugsweise mindestens 5 g/100 g Wasser, besonders bevorzugt mindestens 25 g/100 g Wasser, ganz besonders bevorzugt mindestens 50 g/100 g Wasser.
Beispielsweise kann die den Verdränger enthaltende Monomerlösung homogen sein. Das entstehende Polymer ist dann unlöslich, scheidet sich während der Polymerisation dispers ab und wächst in disperser Phase weiter.
Es ist aber auch möglich, dass bereits die Monomeren durch den Verdränger aus der wässrigen Phase gedrängt werden und die Polymeriation bereits in disperser Phase startet. Wird in diesem Fall der Verdränger erst unmittelbar vor den Reaktor zugesetzt, so kann auf Zusätze, die die Monomerdispersion stabilisieren, verzichtet werden.
Bevorzugte Verdränger setzen die Löslichkeit des Polymeren mindestens so herab, dass das Polymer bei einem Monomerumsatz von bis zu 90 mol-%, vorzugsweise bis zu 50 mol-%, besonders bevorzugt bis zu 30 mol-%, in der Monomerlösung eine disperse Phase bildet.
Als Verdränger können beispielsweise ein oder eine Mischung aus zwei oder mehr unterschiedlicher wasserlöslicher Polymere d1) eingesetzt werden. Desweiteren kom- men als Verdränger ein oder eine Mischung aus zwei oder mehr unterschiedlicher wasserlöslicher Salze d2) in Betracht. Weiterhin können auch Mischungen aus wasser¬ lösliche Polymeren d1) und wasserlöslichen Salzen d2) als Verdränger eingesetzt wer¬ den.
Wasserlösliche Polymere d1) sind beispielsweise Pfropfpolymerisate von Vinylacetat und/oder Vinylpropionat auf Polyethylenglykolen, ein- oder beidseitig mit Alkyl-, Carbo- xyl- oder Aminogruppen endgruppenverschlossene Polyethylenglykole, Copolymerisa-
te aus Alkylpolyalkylenglykolacrylaten oder Alkylpolyalkylenglykolmethacrylaten und Acrylsäure und/oder Methacrylsäure, Polyalkylenglykole, ein- oder beidseitig mit Alkyl-, Carboxyl- oder Aminogruppen endgruppenverschlossene Polyalkylenglykole, hydroly- sierte Copolymerisate aus Vinylalkylethern und Maleinsäureanhydrid in Form der freien Carboxylgruppen und in Form der zumindest partiell mit Alkalimetallhydroxiden oder Ammoniumbasen neutralisierten Salze und/oder einer wasserlöslichen Stärke aus der Gruppe kationisch modifizierter Kartoffelstärke, anionisch modifizierter Kartoffelstärke, abgebauter Kartoffelstärke und Maltodextrin, Polyvinylpyrrolidone, Polyacrylsäuren und Polymethacrylsäuren in Form der freien Carboxylgruppen und in Form der zumindest partiell mit Alkalimetallhydroxiden oder Ammoniumbasen neutralisierten Salze, oder eine Mischung aus zwei oder mehr der vorgenannten wasserlöslichen Polymeren. Ganz besonders bevorzugt sind Polyvinylpyrrolidon, Polyethylenglykol, Polyvinylamin und/oder Polyacrylsäure.
Das mittlere Molgewicht der wasserlöslichen Polymere beträgt bis zu 250.000 g/mol, vorzugsweise bis zu 100.000 g/mol, besonders bevorzugt bis zu 50.000 g/mol. Höhere Molgewichte erhöhen die Viskosität der Monomerlösung und erschwerendamit das Versprühen/Vertropfen in den Reaktionsraum.
Grundsätzlich können auch wasserlösliche Polymere d1) auf Basis der Monomeren a) eingesetzt werden. Ein solcher Fall liegt beispielsweise vor, wenn die einzusetzende Monomerlösung neben Acrylsäure als Monomer a) auch Polyacrylsäure als Verdränger enthält.
Die Konzentration des wasserlöslichen Polymeren d1) in der Monomerlösung beträgt üblicherweise 5 bis 50 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 8 bis 30 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt 10 bis 20 Gew.-%.
Als wasserlösliche Salze d2) werden vorzugsweise anorganische Salze eingesetzt, beispielsweise Natriumsulfat, Natriumchlorid, Kaliumsulfat, Kaliumchlorid, oder eine Mischung aus zwei oder mehr der vorgenannten Salze. Ganz besonders bevorzugt ist Natriumsulfat.
Die Konzentration des wasserlöslichen Salzes d2) in der Monomerlösung beträgt übli- cherweise 1 bis 40 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 2 bis 30 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt 5 bis 20 Gew.-%.
In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird der Monomerlösung zusätzlich mindestens ein Komplexbildner zugesetzt, vorzugsweise Ethylendiamintetraessigsäure. Damit werden beispielsweise aus Rohrleitungen herausgelöste Eisenionen komplexiert und eine mögliche Wechselwirkung der Eisenionen mit der Polymerisation minimiert. Dies ist insbesondere deshalb wichtig, weil Übergangsmetallionen als Katalysatoren bei
Pfropfpolymerisationen eingesetzt werden. Eine Pfopfpolymerisation mit den als Ver¬ dränger eingesetzten Polymeren d1) als Pfropfgrundlage ist aber im erfindungsgemä¬ ßen Verfahren unerwünscht.
Die Konzentration des Komplexbildners in der Monomerlösung beträgt üblicherweise 0,0001 bis 0,1 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,0005 bis 0,05 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt 0,001 bis 0,01 Gew.-%.
Die Viskosität der Monomerlösung kann gemäß DIN 51562 gemessen werden und beträgt bei 23°C bis zu 100 mPas, vorzugsweise bis zu 50 mPas, besonders bevorzugt bis zu 25 mPas, ganz besonders bevorzugt bis zu 10 mPas.
Die Reaktion kann in Gegenwart eines inerten Trägergases durchgeführt werden, wo¬ bei inert bedeutet, dass das Trägergas mit den Bestandteilen der Monomerlösung nicht reagieren kann. Selbstverständlich ist es auch möglich eine Mischung unterschiedli¬ cher Komplexbildner einzusetzen. Das inerte Trägergas ist vorzugsweise Stickstoff. Der Sauerstoffgehalt des inerten Trägergases beträgt vorteilhaft unter 1 Vol.-%, vor¬ zugsweise unter 0,5 Vo!.-%, besonders bevorzugt unter 0,1 Vol.-%.
Das inerte Trägergas kann im Gleichstrom oder im Gegenstrom zu den frei fallenden Tropfen der Monomerlösung durch den Reaktionsraum geführt werden, bevorzugt im Gleichstrom.
Die Gasgeschwindigkeit wird vorzugsweise so eingestellt, dass die Strömung im Reak- tor gerichtet ist, beispielsweise liegen keine der allgemeinen Strömungsrichtung entge¬ gengesetzte Konvektionswirbel vor, und beträgt beispielsweise 0,02 bis 1,5 m/s, be¬ vorzugt 0,05 bis 0,4 m/s.
Die Reaktionstemperatur beträgt üblicherweise zwischen 70 bis 2500C, vorzugsweise 80 bis 1900C, besonders bevorzugt 90 bis 1400C.
Die Konzentration der Monomeren a) in der Monomerlösung beträgt üblicherweise 2 bis 50 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 5 bis 40 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt 10 bis 30 Gew.- %.
Die Löslichkeit der Monomeren a) in Wasser beträgt typischerweise mindestens 1 g/100 g Wasser, vorzugsweise mindestens 5 g/100 g Wasser, besonders bevorzugt mindestens 25 g/100 g Wasser, ganz besonders bevorzugt mindestens 50 g/100 g Wasser.
Ethylenisch ungesättigte Monomere a) sind beispielsweise ethylenisch ungesättigte C3- C6-Carbonsäuren. Bei diesen Verbindungen handelt es sich beispielsweise um Acryl-
säure, Methacrylsäure, Ethacrylsäure, α-Chloracrylsäure, Crotonsäure, Maleinsäure, Maleinsäureanhydrid, Itaconsäure, Citraconsäure, Mesaconsäure, Glutaconsäure, A- conitsäure und Fumarsäure sowie die Alkali- oder Ammoniumsalze dieser Säuren.
Weitere Monomere a) sind Acrylamidopropansulfonsäure, Vinylphosphonsäure und/ oder Alkali- bzw. Ammoniumsalze der Vinylsulfonsäure, wobei Säuren entweder in nicht neutralisierter Form oder in partiell bzw. bis zu 100 % neutralisierter Form einge¬ setzt werden.
Weiterhin kommen monoethylenisch ungesättigte Sulfon- oder Phosphonsäuren ala Monomere a) in Betracht, beispielsweise Allylsulfonsäure, Sulfoethylacrylat, SuI- foethylmethacrylat, Sulfopropylacrylat, Sulfopropylmethacrylat, 2-Hydroxy-3-acryloxy- propylsulfonsäure, 2-Hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropylsulfonsäure, Allylphosphonsäure, Styrolsulfonsäure und 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropansulfonsäure.
Weitere Monomere a) sind beispielsweise Acrylamid, Methacrylamid, Crotonsäurea- mid, Acrylnitril, Methacrylnitril, Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylat, Dimethylaminoethylac- rylat, Dimethylaminopropylacrylat, Diethylaminopropylacrylat, Dimethylaminobutylacry- lat, Dimethylaminoethylmethacrylat, Diethylaminoethylmethacrylat, Dimethylaminoneo- pentylacrylat und Dimethylaminoneopentylmethacrylat sowie deren Quarternisierungs- produkte, beispielsweise mit Methylchlorid, Hydroxyethylacrylat, Hydroxyethylmethac- rylat, Hydroxypropylacrylat und Hydroxypropylmethacrylat.
Weitere Monomere a) sind Monomere, die durch Umsetzung von stickstoffhaltigen He- terocyclen und/oder Carbonsäureamiden, wie Vinylimidazol, Vinylpyrazol sowie Vinyl- pyrrolidon, Vinylcaprolactam und Vinylformamid, mit Acetylen erhältlich sind, die auch quarternisiert sein können, beispielsweise mit Methylchlorid, und Monomere, die durch Umsetzung von stickstoffhaltigen Verbindungen, wie Diallyldimethylammoniumchlorid, mit Allylalkohol oder Allylchlorid erhältlich sind.
Desweiteren können auch Vinyl- und Allylester sowie Vinyl- und Allylether, wie Vinyl- acetat, Allylacetat, Methylvinylether und Methylallylether, als Monomere a) verwendet werden.
Die Monomeren a) können allein oder in Mischung untereinander eingesetzt werden, beispielsweise Mischungen, enthaltend zwei oder mehr Monomere a). Bevorzugt wer¬ den Mischungen mit zwei unterschiedlichen Monomeren a) eingesetzt.
Bevorzugte Monomere a) sind Acrylsäure, Methacrylsäure sowie die Alkali- oder Am- moniumsalze dieser Säuren, Acrylamid, Methacrylamid, Acrylnitril, Methacrylnitril, Ita¬ consäure, Vinylformamid, Vinylpyrrolidon, Vinylimidazol, quarternisiertes Vinylimidazol, Vinylacetat, Natriumvinylsulfonat, Vinylphosphonsäure, Hydroxyethylacrylat, Hydroxye-
thylmethacrylat, 2-AcryIamido-2-methylpropansulfonsäure, Diallyldimethylammoni- umchlorid sowie deren Mischungen.
Die Monomeren a) sind vorzugsweise mit einem handelsüblichen Polymerisationsinhi- bitor stabilisiert, besonders bevorzugt mit einem Polymeriationsinhibitor, der nur zu¬ sammen mit Sauerstoff wirkt, beispielsweise Hydrochinomonomethylether.
Handelsübliche Polymerisationsinhibitoren sind Polymerisationsinhibitoren, die aus Gründen der Produktsicherheit als Lagerstabilisatoren in den jeweiligen Monomeren eingesetzt werden. Beispiele für solche Lagerstabilisatoren sind Hydrochinon, Hydro- chinonmonomethylether, 2,5-Di-tert.-Butylhydrochinon und 2,6-Di-tert.-butyl-4-methyl- phenol.
Die bevorzugten Polymerisationsinhibitoren benötigen für eine optimale Wirkung gelös- ten Sauerstoff. Daher können die Polymerisationsinhibitoren vor der Polymerisation durch Inertisierung, d.h. Durchströmen mit einem inerten Gas, vorzugsweise Stickstoff, von gelöstem Sauerstoff befreit werden. Vorzugsweise wird der Sauerstoffgehalt der Monomerlösung vor der Polymerisation auf weniger als 1 Gew.-ppm, besonders bevor¬ zugt auf weniger als 0,5 Gew.-ppm, gesenkt.
Die Monomeren a) werden in wässriger Lösung in Gegenwart von Initiatoren b) mitein¬ ander polymerisiert.
Die Initiatoren b) werden in üblichen Mengen eingesetzt, beispielsweise in Mengen von 0,001 bis 5 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 1 Gew.-%, bezogen auf die zu polymerisie- renden Monomere.
Als Initiatoren b) können sämtliche unter den Polymerisationsbedingungen in Radikale zerfallende Verbindungen eingesetzt werden, beispielsweise Peroxide, Hydroperoxide, Wasserstoffperoxid, Persulfate, Azoverbindungen und die sogenannten Redoxinitiato- ren. Bevorzugt ist der Einsatz von wasserlöslichen Initiatoren. In manchen Fällen ist es vorteilhaft, Mischungen verschiedener Initiatoren zu verwenden, beispielsweise Misch¬ ungen aus Wasserstoffperoxid und Natrium- oder Kaliumperoxodisulfat. Mischungen aus Wasserstoffperoxid und Natriumperoxodisulfat können in jedem beliebigen Ver- hältnis verwendet werden.
Geeignete organische Peroxide sind beispielsweise Acetylacetonperoxid, Methylethyl- ketonperoxid, tert.-Butylhydroperoxid, Cumolhydroperoxid, tert.-Amylperpivalat, tett- Butylperpivalat, tert.-Butylpemeohexanoat, tert.-Butylperisobutyrat, tert.-Butyl-per-2- ethylhexanoat, tert.-Butylperisononanoat, tert.-Butylpermaleat, tert.-Butylperbenzoat, Di-(2-ethylhexyl)peroxydicarbonat, Dicyclohexylperoxydicarbonat, Di-(4-tert.-butylcyclo- hexyl)peroxydicarbonat, Dimyristilperoxydicarbonat, Diacetylperoxydicarbonat, Allylpe-
rester, Cumylperoxyneodecanoat, tert.-Butylper-3,5,5-trimethylhexanoat, Acetylcyclo- hexylsulfonylperoxid, Dilaurylperoxid, Dibenzoylperoxid und tert.-Amylpemeodekanoat.
Bevorzugte Initiatoren b) sind Azoverbindungen, beispielsweise 2,2'-Azobis-isobutyro- nitril, 2,2'-Azobis(2,4-dimethylvaIeronitril) und 2,2'-Azobis(4-methoxy-2,4-dimethyl- valeronitril), insbesondere wasserlösliche Azostarter, beispielsweise 2,2'-Azobis{2-[1- (2-hydroxyethyl)-2-imidazolin-2-yl]propan}dihydrochlorid, 2,2'-Azobis-(2-amidino- propan)dihydrochlorid, 2,2'-Azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)propan]dihydrochlorid und 2,2'- Azobis[2-(5-methyl-2-imidazolin-2-yl)propan]dihydrochlorid. Ganz besonders bevorzugt sind 2,2'-Azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)propan]dihydrochlorid und 2,2'-Azobis[2-(5-methyl- 2-imidazolin-2-yl)propan]dihydrochlorid.
Weiterhin bevorzugte Initiatoren b) sind außerdem Redoxinitiatoren. Die Redoxinitiato- ren enthalten als oxidierende Komponente mindestens eine der oben angegebenen Peroxoverbindungen und als reduzierende Komponente beispielsweise Ascorbinsäure, Glukose, Sorbose, Ammonium- oder Alkalimetallhydrogensulfit, -sulfit, -thiosulfat, - hyposulfit, -pyrosulfit, -sulfid oder Natriumhydroxymethylsulfoxylat. Vorzugsweise ver¬ wendet man als reduzierende Komponente des Redoxkatalysators Ascorbinsäure oder Natriumpyrosulfit. Bezogen auf die bei der Polymerisation eingesetzte Menge an Mo- nomeren verwendet man beispielsweise 1 x 10'5 bis 1 Mol-% der reduzierenden Kom¬ ponente des Redoxkatalysators.
Besonders bevorzugt wird die Polymerisation durch Einwirkung energiereicher Strah¬ lung ausgelöst, wobei man üblicherweise sogenannte Photoinitiatoren als Initiator b). Hierbei kann es sich beispielsweise um sogenannte α-Spalter, H-abstrahierende Sys¬ teme oder auch um Azide handeln. Beispiele für solche Initiatoren sind Benzophenon- Derivate wie Michlers-Keton, Phenanthren-Derivate, Fluoren-Derivate, Anthrachinon- Derivate, Thioxanton-Derivate, Cumarin-Derivate, Benzoinether und deren Derivate, Azoverbindungen, wie die oben genannten Radikalbildner, substituierte Hexaarylbisi- midazole oder Acylphosphinoxide, insbesondere 2-Hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenon (Darocure® 1173). Beispiele für Azide sind 2-(N,N-Dimethylamino)-ethyl-4- azidocinnamat, 2-(N,N-Dimethyl-amino)-ethyl-4-azidonaphthylketon, 2-(N,N-Dimethyl- amino)-ethyl-4-azidobenzoat, 5-Azido-1 -naphthyl-2'-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethylsulfon, N- (4-Su!fonylazidophenyl)maleinimid, N-Acetyl-4-sulfonylazidoanilin, 4-SuIfonylazido- anilin, 4-Azidoanilin, 4-Azidophenacylbromid, p-Azidobenzoesäure, 2,6-Bis(p- azidobenzyliden)cyclohexanon und 2,6-Bis-(p-azido-benzyliden)-4-methylcyclo- hexanon.
Besonders bevorzugte Initiatoren b) sind Azoinitiatoren, wie 2,2'-Azobis[2-(2- imidazolin-2-yl)propan]dihydrochlorid und 2,2'-A∑obis[2-(5-methyl-2-imidazoIin-2- yl)propan]dihydrochlorid, und Photoinitiatoren, wie 2-Hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenon und 1 -[4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1 -propan-1 -on, Redoxinitiato-
ren, wie Natriumpersulfat/ Hydroxymethylsulfinsäure, Ammoniumperoxodisul- fat/HydroxymethylsuIfinsäure, Wasserstoffperoxid/Hydroxymethylsulfinsäure, Natrium- persulfat/Ascorbinsäure, Ammoniumperoxodisulfat/Ascorbinsäure und Wasserstoffpe- roxid/Ascorbinsäure, Photoinitiatoren, wie 1-[4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2- methyl-1-propan-1-on, sowie deren Mischungen.
Als Komponente c) enthält die Monomerlösung Wasser.
Der pH-Wert der Monomerlösung ist nicht entscheidend. Entsprechend der Produktan- forderungen kann aber der pH-Wert des erfindungsgemäßen Polymeren über den pH- Wert der Monomerlösung auf den gewünschten Bereich eingestellt werden. Beispiels¬ weise sollten Polymere für kosmetische Anwendungen einen pH-Wert um 7 aufweisen.
Die Polymerisation der Monomere a) kann in Gegenwart eines Vemetzers oder einer Kombination verschiedener Vernetzer erfolgen. Vernetzer sind Verbindungen mit min¬ destens zwei polymerisierbaren Gruppen. Die Polymerisation in Gegenwart mindes¬ tens eines Vernetzers ist bevorzugt.
Die Konzentration der Vemetzer in der Monomerlösung beträgt üblicherweise 0,001 bis 1 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 0,5 Gew.-%.
Geeignete Vernetzer sind beispielsweise (Meth)acrylsäureester mehrwertiger Alkohole, die mit bis zu 100, meist bis zu 50, Ethylenoxid- und/oder Propylenoxideinheiten alko- xyliert sein können. Geeignete mehrwertige Alkohole sind insbesondere C2-CiO-Alkan- polyole mit 2 bis 6 Hydroxylgruppen, wie Ethylenglykol, Glycerin, Trimethylolpropan, Pentaerythrit oder Sorbitol. Bevorzugte Vernetzer sind Polyethylenglykoldiacrylat und Polyethylenglykoldimethacrylate, die sich jeweils von Polyethylenglykolen (die als e- thoxyliertes Ethylenglykol aufgefasst werden können) eines Molekulargewichts von 200 bis 2000 ableiten. Weitere verwendbare Vernetzer sind Methylenbisacrylamid, Tri- methylolpropantriacrylat, Trimethylolpropantrimethacrylat, Ethylenglykoldiacrylat, Pro- pylenglykoldiacrylat, Butandioldiacrylat, Hexandioldiacrylat, Hexandioldimethacrylat oder Diacrylate und Dimethacrylate von Blockcopolymerisaten aus Ethylenoxid und Propylenoxid.
Desweiteren kommen als Vernetzer Diallylcarbonat, Allylcarbonate oder Allylether mehrwertiger Alkohole, die mit bis zu 100, meist bis zu 50, Ethylenoxid- und/oder Pro¬ pylenoxideinheiten alkoxyliert sein können, und Allylester mehrwertiger Carbonsäuren in Betracht.
Allylcarbonate mehrwertiger Alkohole entsprechen der allgemeinen Formel I
worin A für den Rest eines mehrwertigen Alkohols steht, der mit 0 bis 100, meist 0 bis 50, Ethylenoxid- und/oder Propylenoxideinheiten alkoxyliert sein kann; und n für die Wertigkeit des Alkohols, beispielsweise für eine ganze Zahl von 2 bis 10, vorzugsweise 2 bis 5, steht. Ein besonders bevorzugtes Beispiel einer derartigen Verbindung ist E- thylenglykoldi(allylcarbonat). Weiter eignen sich besonders Polyethylenglykol- di(allylcarbonate), die sich von Polyethylenglykolen eines Molekulargewichts von 200 bis 2000 ableiten.
Als bevorzugte Beispiele für Allylether. lassen sich aufführen: Polyethylenglykoldially- lether, die sich von Polyethylenglykolen eines Molekulargewichts von 200 bis 2000 ableiten; Pentraerythrittriallylether oder Trimethyiolpropandiallylether. Weiterhin geeig- net sind Umsetzungsprodukte von Ethylenglykoldiglycidylether oder Polyethylengly- kolglycidylether mit 2 MoI Allylalkohol und/oder Pentaerythritoltriallylether.
Ein geeigneter Allylester einer mehrwertigen Carbonsäure ist beispielsweise Dial- lylphthalat.
Bevorzugte Monomere a) oder Kombinationen von Monomeren a) sind Acrylamid/ quarternisiertes Vinylimidazol, Acrylamid/Diallydimethylamoniumchlorid, Acrylamid/ quarternisiertes Dimethylaminoethylacrylat, Vinylpyrrolidon/quarternisiertes Vinylimida- zo), Vinylpyrrolidon/Diallydimethylamoniumchlorid, Vinylpyrrolidon/quartemisiertes Di- methylaminoethylacrylat und Acrylsäure.
Bevorzugte Initiatoren b) oder Kombinationen von Initiatoren b) sind Azoinitiatoren und Azoinitiatoren/Photoinitiatoren.
Bevorzugte Verdränger d) oder Kombinationen von Verdrängern d) sind Polyvinylpyrro- lidon/Polyethylenglykol, Natriumsulfat/Polyvinylamin, Polyethylenglykol/Acrylsäure- Maleinsäure-Copolymere und Acrylsäure-Maleinsäure-Copolymere,
Die Reaktion wird vorzugsweise in Apparaten durchgeführt, die auch für die Sprüh- trocknung geeignet sind. Derartige Reaktoren werden beispielsweise in K. Masters, Spray Drying Handbook, 5th Edition, Longman, 1991, Seiten 23 bis 66, beschrieben.
Die im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren können eine oder mehrere Sprühdüsen einge¬ setzt werden. Die einsetzbaren Sprühdüsen unterliegen keiner Beschränkung. Derarti-
gen Düsen kann die zu versprühende Flüssigkeit unter Druck zugeführt werden. Die Zerteilung der zu versprühenden Flüssigkeit kann dabei dadurch erfolgen, dass sie nach Erreichen einer bestimmten Mindestgeschwindigkeit in der Düsenbohrung ent¬ spannt wird. Ferner können für den erfindungsgemäßen Zweck auch Einstoffdüsen, wie beispielsweise Schlitzdüsen oder Drallkammern (Vollkegeldüsen) verwendet wer¬ den (beispielsweise von Düsen-Schlick GmbH, DE1 oder von Spraying Systems Deutschland GmbH, DE).
Erfindungsgemäß bevorzugt sind Vollkegeldüsen. Darunter sind solche mit einem Öff- nungswinkel des Sprühkegels von 60 bis 180° bevorzugt. Besonders bevorzugt sind Öffnungswinkel von 90 bis 120°. Der sich beim Versprühen einstellende mittlere Trop¬ fendurchmesser ist erfindungsgemäß typischerweise kleiner 1000 μm, vorzugsweise kleiner 200 μm, bevorzugt kleiner 100 μm, sowie üblicherweise größer 10 μm, vorzugs¬ weise größer 20 μm, bevorzugt größer 50 μm, und kann nach üblichen Methoden, wie Lichtstreuung, oder anhand der bei den Düsenherstellern erhältlichen Kennlinien be¬ stimmtwerden. Der Durchsatz je Sprühdüse beträgt zweckmäßig 0,1 bis 10 m3/h, häu¬ fig 0,5 bis 5 nY7h.
Der sich beim Versprühen einstellende Tröpfchendurchmesser ist üblicherweise von 10 bis 1.000 μm, bevorzugt von 50 bis 500 μm.
Die Reaktion kann auch in Apparaten durchgeführt werden in denen die Monomerlö¬ sung in Form monodisperser Tropfen frei fallen kann. Geeignet dazu sind Apparaturen, wie sie beispielsweise in der Patentschrift US-A-5,269,980, Spalte 3, Zeilen 25 bis 32, beschrieben sind.
Eine Vertropfung durch laminaren Strahlzerfall, wie in Rev. Sei. Instr., Band 38 (1966), Seiten 502 bis 506, beschrieben, ist ebenfalls möglich.
Die Verwendung von Sprühdüsen zur Tropfenerzeugung ist bevorzugt.
Die Reaktionsraum des Polymeriationsreaktors kann im Überdruck oder im Unterdruck durchgeführt werden, ein Unterduck von bis zu 100 mbar gegenüber dem Umgebungs¬ druck ist bevorzugt.
Der Polymerisationsreaktor wird vorzugsweise von einem Trägergas durchströmt. Be¬ vorzugt ist die Gleichstromfahrweise, das heißt, das Trägergas durchströmt den Poly¬ merisationsreaktor von oben nach unten.
Die Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit und die Trockengeschwindigkeit weisen üblicher¬ weise unterschiedliche Temperturabhängigkeiten auf. Dies kann beispielsweise bedeu¬ ten, dass die versprühten Tropfen trocknen bevor der gewünschte Umsatz erreicht
worden ist. Daher ist es vorteilhaft die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit und die Trockenge¬ schwindigkeit getrennt zu beeinflussen.
Die Trockengeschwindigkeit kann über den Wasserdampfgehalt des Trägergases be- einflusst werden. Der Wasserdampfgehalt des Trägergases beträgt im allgemeinen bis 90 Vol.-%, vorzugsweise bis 50 Vol.-%.
Die Polymeriationsgeschwindigkeit kann durch Art und Menge des verwendeten Initia¬ torsystems eingestellt werden. Vorteilhaft zur Steuerung der Polymerisationsgeschwin- digkeit ist die Verwendung von Azoverbindungen oder Redoxinitiatoren als Initiatoren b). Das Anspringverhalten der Polymerisation läßt sich mit Azoverbindungen oder Re¬ doxinitiatoren über Auswahl des Initiators, Initiatorkonzentration und Reaktionstempe¬ ratur besser steuern als beispielsweise mit reinen Peroxidinitiatoren.
Besonders vorteilhaft sind Photoinitiatoren. Bei Verwendung von Photoinitiatoren kann die Trockengeschwindigkeit über die Temperatur auf den gewünschten Wert eingestellt werden, ohne dass damit gleichzeitig die Radikalbildung wesentlich beeinflusst wird.
Das Trägergas wird zweckmäßigerweise vor dem Reaktor auf die Reaktionstemperatur von 70 bis 2500C, vorzugsweise 80 bis 19O0C, besonders bevorzugt 90 bis 1400C, vorgewärmt.
Das Reaktionsabgas, d.h. das der Reaktionsraum verlassende Trägergas, kann bei¬ spielsweise in einem Wärmeaustauscher abgekühlt werden. Dabei kondensieren Was- ser und nicht umgesetztes Monomer. Danach kann das Reaktionsabgas zumindest teilweise wieder aufgewärmt und als Kreisgas in den Reaktor zurückgeführt werden. Vorzugsweise wird das Kreisgas so abgekühlt, dass das abgekühlte Kreisgas den für die Reaktion gewünschten Anteil an Wasserdampf hat. Ein Teil des Reaktionsabgases kann ausgeschleust und durch frisches Trägergas ersetzt werden, wobei im Reakti- onsabgas enthaltene nicht umgesetzte Monomere abgetrennt und rückgeführt werden können.
Besonders bevorzugt ist ein Wärmeverbund, dass heißt, ein Teil der Abwärme beim Abkühlen des Reaktionsabgases wird zum Aufwärmen des Trägergases verwendet.
Der Reaktionsraum kann begleitbeheizt werden. Die Begleitheizung wird dabei so ein¬ gestellt, dass die Wandtemperatur mindestens 50C oberhalb der Reaktorinnentempera¬ tur liegt und die Kondensation an den Reaktorwänden zuverlässig vermieden wird.
Das Reaktionsprodukt fällt in Form rieselfähiger Polymerpartikel an und kann dem Re¬ aktionsraum in üblicher Weise entnommen werden, vorzugsweise am Boden über eine
Förderschnecke, und gegebenenfalls bis zur gewünschten Restfeuchte und zum ge¬ wünschten Restmonomerengehalt weiter getrocknet werden.
Vorzugsweise weisen mindestens 95 Gew.-% des partikulären Polymeren einen Parti- keldurchmesser (Korngröße) von 5 bis 1000 μm, vorzugsweise 10 bis 500 μm, auf, wobei es sich insbesondere bei größeren Partikeldurchmessern um Agglomerate deut¬ lich kleinerer Primärpartikel handelt. Die Partikelgrößenverteilung kann nach üblichen Methoden bestimmt werden, beispielsweise analog zur von der EDANA (European Disposables and Nonwovens Association) empfohlenen Testmethode Nr. 420.2-02 "Particle Size Distribution - Sieve Fraction".
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren kombiniert in vorteilhafter Weise die Herstellung einer Polymerdispersion mit der Trocknung dieser Dispersion in einem Schritt, wobei die Polymerisationswärme gleichzeitig zur Trocknung verwendet werden kann. Der Verdränger bewirkt, dass in den Tropfen jeweils eine Polymerdispersion entsteht, die während der Sprühpolymerisatiön trocknet. Dadurch entstehen Primärteilchen, die deutlich kleiner sind als die Ursprungstropfen. Beim Trocknen im Reaktor bilden diese Primärteilchen zusammen mit dem Verdränger Agglomerate. So sind die erfindungs¬ gemäßen Polymere leicht redispergierbar und schnell löslich.
Ein weiterer Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung sind wasserlösliche oder wasser- quellbare, pulverförmige Zusammensetzungen, enhaltend
i) mindestens 10 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise mindestens 30 Gew.-%, besonders be- vorzugt mindestens 50 Gew.-%, eines polymerisierten wasserlöslichen ethyle- nisch ungesättigten Monomeren a) oder mindestens zweier copolymerisierter wasserlöslicher ethylenisch ungesättigter Monomere a) und ii) mindestens einen Verdränger d), wobei der Verdränger ii1) mindestens 5 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise mindestens 25 Gew.-%, beson- ders bevorzugt mindestens 35 Gew.-%, mindestens eines Verdrängers d1),
Ü2) mindestens 2 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise mindestens 10 Gew.-%, beson¬ ders bevorzugt mindestens 20 Gew.-%, mindestens eines Verdrängers d2) jeweils bezogen auf die Zusammensetzung, oder
Ü3) eine Mischung aus Verdränger d1) und d2) ist),
wobei das mittlere Molgewicht der Komponente ii) niedriger ist als das mittlere Molgewicht der Komponente i). iii) gegebenenfalls 0,001 bis 2 Gew.-%, vorzugsweise 0,01 bis 1 Gew.-%, besonders bevorzugt 0,02 bis 0,5 Gew.-%, mindestens eines polymerisierten Vernetzers,
wobei die Summe der obengenannten Komponenten höchstens 100 Gew.-% beträgt. Vorzugsweise haben mindestens 95 Gew.-% der pulverförmigen Zusammensetzung einen Partikeldurchmesser im Bereich von 5 bis 1.000 μm, vorzugsweise 10 bis 500 μm.
Die Polymere oder Copolymeren i) weisen mittlere Molgewichte von mindestens 1.000.000 g/mol, vorzugsweise von mindestens 2.500.000 g/mol, besonders bevorzugt von mindestens 5.000.000 g/mol auf.
Die Polymere ii) weisen mittlere Molgewichte von höchstens 250.000 g/mol, vorzugs¬ weise von höchstens 100.000 g/mol, besonders bevorzugt von höchstens 50.000 g/mol auf.
Grundsätzlich können die Polymer i) und die Polymere ii) aus denselben Monomeren aufgebaut sein, bleiben aber aufgrund ihrer unterschiedlichen mittleren Molgewichte unterscheidbar (bimodale Molgewichtsverteilung).
Die erfindungsgemäßen Zusammensetzungen enthalten vorzugsweise weniger als 10 Gew.-% Wasser, besonders bevorzugt weniger als 5 Gew.-%, ganz besonders bevor- zugt weniger als 2 Gew.-%.
Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren herstellbaren wasserlöslichen oder was- serquellbaren, Polymere eignen sich zum Verdicken und/oder zur Absorption von Flüs¬ sigkeiten, insbesondere wässriger Systeme, sowie als Absorptionsmittel in Hygienear- tikeln.
Unvernetzte Polymere lösen sich in Wasser, während vernetzte Polymere stark quellen und ebenfalls die Viskosität des wässrigen Medium stark erhöhen. So haben beispiels¬ weise 2 gew.-%ige wässrige Lösungen der nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren herstellbarer Polymeren bei pH 7 eine Viskosität von 800 bis 40.000 mPas (gemessen in einem Brookfield-Viskosimeter, Spindel 6, bei 2O0C), wobei die Viskosität mit dem Vemetzungsgrad steigt.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Polymere können als Verdickungsmittel für wässrige Systeme verwendet werden, beispielsweise als Zusatz zu Papierstreichmassen, als Verdick¬ ungsmittel für Pigmentdruckpasten und als Zusatz zu wässrigen Farben wie Fassaden¬ farben. Sie sind außerdem in der Kosmetik einsetzbar, beispielsweise in haarkosmeti¬ schen Zubereitungen wie Conditioner oder Haarfestiger oder als Verdicker für Kosme¬ tikformulierungen, für die Oberflächenbehandlung von Leder als auch zur Absorption von wässrigen Flüssigkeiten.
Die Viskosität 2 gew.-%iger wässriger Lösungen, enthaltend nach dem erfindungsge¬ mäßen Verfahren hergestellter Polymere, beträgt bei 23°C mindestens 500 mPas, vor- zugsweie mindestens 1.000 mPas, besonders bevorzugt mindestens 2.000 mPas.

9 kg 30gew.-%iges wässriges Polyvinylpyrrolidon und 10 g 40gew.-%ige wässrige E- thylendiaminotetraessigsäure wurden in 27,5 kg Wasser gelöst. Die Mischung wurde mit 12 kg Pluriol E1500 (Polyethylenglykol der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) versetzt. Mit Triethanolamin wurde der pH-Wert auf 6,75 eingestellt. Innerhalb von 10 Minuten wurden 34,8 kg 50gew.-%iges wässriges Acrylamid und 13,3 kg 45gew.-%iges wässri¬ ges mit Methylchlorid quartemisiertes Vinylimidazol zudosiert. Anschließend wurde die Mischung mit 30 g Irgacure® 2959 (1-[4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2- methyl-1-propan-1-on der Ciba Spezialitätenchemie, CH) und 20 g 2,2'-Azobis(2- amidinopropan)dihydroch!orid (Azoinitiator V5Q der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphäre gefüllten Sprüh- turm (15O0C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleichstrom) ver- sprüht. Im oberen Drittel des Sprühturms passierten die Tropfen 6 UV-Lampen (Fe- dotierte Hg-Strahler, je 6kW). Am Boden des Sprühturms wurde ein rieselfähiges, wei¬ ßes Pulver erhalten. Die durchschnittliche Korngröße betrug 20 μm. Dieses Pulver ließ sich in Wasser klar lösen. Die 2 gew.-%ige Lösung hatte einen pH-Wert von 7 und eine Viskosität von 1.050 mPas.
Beispiel 2
13,5 kg 30gew.-%iges wässriges Polyvinylpyrrolidon und 10 g 40gew.-%ige wässrige Ethylendiaminotetraessigsäure wurden in 25,5 kg Wasser gelöst. Die Mischung wurde mit 10,5 kg Pluriol E1500 (Polyethylenglykol der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) ver¬ setzt. Mit Triethanolamin wurde der pH-Wert auf 6,75 eingestellt. Innerhalb von 10 Mi¬ nuten wurden 34,8 kg 50gew.-%iges wässriges Acrylamid und 7,3 kg 60,7gew.-%iges wässriges Diallyldimethylammoniumchlorid zudosiert. Anschließend wurde die Mi¬ schung mit 30 g Irgacure® 2959 (1-[4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2-methyl- 1-propan-1-on der Ciba Spezialitätenchemie, CH)1 10 g 2,21-Azobis(2-amidinopropan) dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V50 der Wako Deutschland, DE) und 10 g Ammoniumpero- xodisulfat versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmo¬ sphäre gefüllten Sprühturm (15O0C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleichstrom) versprüht. Im oberen Drittel des Sprühturms passierten die Tropfen 6 UV-Lampen (Fe-dotierte Hg-Strahler, je 6kW). Am Boden des Sprühturms wurde ein rieselfähiges, weißes Pulver erhalten. Die durchschnittliche Korngröße betrug 20 μm.

Innerhalb von 10 Minuten wurden 34,8 kg 50gew.-%iges wässriges Acrylamid, 13,3 kg 45gew.-%iges wässriges mit Methylchlorid quarternisiertes Vinylimidazol und 37,3 g 98gew-%iges Triallylamin zudosiert. Anschließend wurde die Mischung mit 30 g Irgacure® 2959 (1-[4-(2- Hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-propan-1-on der Ciba Spezialitätenche¬ mie, CH) und 20 g 2,2'-Azobis(2-amidinopropan)dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V50 der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphäre gefüllten Sprühturm (9O0C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwin¬ digkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleichstrom) vertropft. 13,5 kg 30gew.-%iges wässriges Polyvinylpyrrolidon und 10 g 40gew.-%ige wässrige Ethylendiaminotetraessigsäure wurden in 16,7 kg Wasser gelöst. Die Mischung wurde mit 13,5 kg Pluriol E1500 (Polyethylenglykol der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) ver¬ setzt. Mit Triethanolamin wurde der pH-Wert auf 6,75 eingestellt. Innerhalb von 10 Mi- nuten wurden 34,8 kg 50gew.-%iges wässriges Acrylamid und 6,6 kg 80gew.-%iges wässriges mit Methylchlorid quarternisiertes Dimethylaminoethylacrylat zudosiert. An¬ schließend wurde die Mischung mit 30 g Irgacure® 2959 (1-[4-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)- phenyl]-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-propan-1-on der Ciba Spezialitätenchemie, CH) und 20 g 2,2'-Azobis(2-amidinopropan)dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V50 der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphäre gefüllten Sprühturm (900C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0, 1 m/s im Gleichstrom) vertropft. 7,7 kg Natriumsulfat, 12,8 kg Vinylpyrrolidon und 6,4 kg 50gew.-%iges wässriges mit Methylchlorid quarternisiertes Vinylimidazol wurden in 30 kg Wasser getost. Als Disper¬ giermittel wurden 7,5 kg 20gew.-%iges wässriges Polyvinylamin (Catiofast® PR8106 der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) zugesetzt. Mit 5gew.-%iger Schwefelsäure wurde der pH-Wert auf 6,75 eingestellt. Anschließend wurde die Mischung mit 50 g 2,2'- Azobis(2-amidinopropan)dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V50 der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphäre gefüll¬ ten Sprühturm (1500C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleich¬ strom) versprüht. 7,7 kg Natriumsulfat, 12,8 kg Vinylpyrrolidon, 5 kg 65gew.-%iges wässriges Diallyldi- methylammoniumchlorid und 48 g Pentaerythrttetraallyether wurden in 39 kg Wasser gelöst. Als Dispergiermittel wurden 6,3 kg 25gew.-%iges wässriges Polyvinylamin (Ca¬ tiofast® PR8106 der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) zugesetzt. Mit 5gew.-%iger Schwe¬ felsäure wurde der pH-Wert auf 6,75 eingestellt. Anschließend wurde die Mischung mit 60 g 2,2'-Azobis(2-arnidinopropan)dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V50 der Wako Deutsch- land, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphä¬ re gefüllten Sprühturm (1500C1 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleichstrom) versprüht. Am Boden des Sprühturms wurde ein rieselfähiges, weißes Pulver erhalten. Die durchschnittliche Korngröße betrug 24 μm. Dieses Pulver ließ sich in Wasser klar lösen. Beispiel 7
7,7 kg Natriumsulfat, 12,8 kg Vinylpyrrolidon, 6,4 kg 45gew.-%iges wässriges mit Me- thylchlorid quarternisiertes Vinylimidazol und 48 g Triallylamin wurden in 34,7 kg Was¬ ser gelöst. Als Dispergiermittel wurden 6,3 kg Sokalan® PA80 (Pσlyacrylsäure der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) zugesetzt. Mit 50gew.-%iger Schwefelsäure wurde der pH-Wert auf 6,75 eingestellt. Anschließend wurde die Mischung mit 50 g 2,2'-Azobis[2- (2~imidazolin-2-yl)propan]dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V44 der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. 9 kg Sokalan® HP22 (Polyacrylsäure der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) und 5,2 kg Sokalan® CP2 (Polyacrylsäure der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) wurden in 2,9 kg Wasser gelöst. Innerhalb von 10 Minuten wurden 3 kg Acrylsäure zugesetzt. Anschlie- ßend wurde die Mischung mit 8 g 2,2'-Azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-y!)propan] dihydrochlo- rid (Azoinitiator V44 der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. 9 kg Sokalan® HP22 (Polyacrylsäure der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) und 5,2 kg Sokalan® CP2 (Polyacrylsäure der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) wurden in 2,9 kg Wasser gelöst. Innerhalb von 10 Minuten wurden 3 kg Acrylsäure und 9 g Triallylamin zugesetzt. Anschließend wurde die Mischung mit 8 g 2,2'-Azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2- yl)propan]dihydrochlorid (Azoinitiator V44 der Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphäre gefüllten Sprühturm (1100C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleichstrom) versprüht. Beispiel 10
12 g Pluriol® P600 (Polypropylenglykol der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) und 5,2 kg Sokalan® CP2 (Polyacrylsäure der BASF Aktiengesellschaft, DE) wurden in 10,6 kg Wasser gelöst. Innerhalb von 10 Minuten wurden 3 kg Acrylsäure zugesetzt. Anschlie¬ ßend wurde die Mischung mit 8 g 2,2'-Azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)propan] dihydrochlo- rid (Azoinitiator V44 der Fa. Wako Deutschland, DE) versetzt. Diese Mischung wurde in einem erwärmten, mit Stickstoffatmosphäre gefüllten Sprühturm (11O0C, 8m Höhe, 2m Breite, Gasgeschwindigkeit 0,1 m/s im Gleichstrom) versprüht. Am Boden des Sprüh- turms wurde ein rieselfähiges, weißes Pulver erhalten. Die durchschnittliche Korngröße betrug 22 μm. Dieses Pulver ließ sich in Wasser klar lösen. Die 2 gew.-%ige Lösung hatte einen pH-Wert von 7 und eine Viskosität von 500 mPas.
Claims
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polymeren durch Sprühpolymerisation, wobei eine wässrige Monomerlösung, enthaltend
a) mindestens ein wasserlösliches ethylenisch ungesättigtes Monomer, b) mindestens einen Initiators und c) Wasser,
in einen Reaktionsraum versprüht und polymerisiert wird, dadurch gekennzeich¬ net, dass die Monomerlösung zusätzlich mindestens einen Verdränger d) enthält, wobei der Verdränger
d1) 5 bis 50 Gew.-% mindestens eines wasserlöslichen Polymeren, d2) 1 bis 40 Gew.-% mindestens eines wasserlöslichen Salzes,
jeweils bezogen auf die Monomerlösung, oder eine Mischung aus Verdränger d1) und d2) ist.
2. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das der Verdrän¬ ger d1) Polyvinyipyrrolidon, Polyethylenglykol, Polyvinylamin, Polyacrylsäure, ein Acrylsäure/Maleinsäure-Copolymer und/oder ein Pfopfpolymerisat von Vinylace- tat und/oder Vinylpropionat auf Polyethylenglykol ist.
3. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Verdränger d2) ein anorganisches Salz ist.
4. Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Monomer a) Acrylsäure, Vinylpyrrolidon, quarternisiertes Vinylimidazol, Acry- lamid, quarternisiertes Dimethylaminoethylacrylat und/oder Diallyldimethylammo- nimchlorid ist.
5. Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Initiator b) eine Azoverbindung, ein Redoxinitiator und/oder ein Photoinitiator ist.
6. Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Monomerlösung zusätzlich einen Komplexbildner enthält.
7. Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reaktion in Gegenwart eines inerten Trägergases durchgeführt wird.
8. Wasserlösliche oder wasserquellbare, pulverförmige Zusammensetzungen, ent¬ haltend
i) mindestens 10 Gew.-% eines polymerisierten wasserlöslichen ethylenisch 5 ungesättigten Monomeren a) oder mindestens zweier copolymerisierter wasserlöslicher ethylenisch ungesättigter Monomere a) und ii) mindestens einen Verdränger d), wobei der Verdränger ii1) mindestens 5 Gew.-% mindestens eines Verdrängers d1), ü2) mindestens 2 Gew.-% mindestens eines Verdrängers d2) 10 jeweils bezogen auf die Zusammensetzung, oder
Ü3) eine Mischung aus Verdränger d1) und d2) ist),
wobei das mittlere Molgewicht der Komponente ii) niedriger ist als das mittlere Molgewicht der Komponente i).
15.
9. Verwendung der Polymere gemäß Anspruch 8 zum Verdicken und/oder zur Ab¬ sorption von wässrigen Flüssigkeiten.
10. Verdickte wässrige Flüssigkeiten, enthaltend ein Polymer gemäß Anspruch 8.
