Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for direct engraving of cups for receiving printing inks in the surface of gravure printing cylinders.
- a variant of the implementation of the information of printing image on the printing cylinder during gravure printing is the so-called Laser mask exposure of a previously on the printing cylinder applied thin thermal or Photosensitive mask layer followed by etching.
- the mask is removed by means of a fine laser beam or she is exposed in the places where one or no cup should be etched. Then done cleaning with thermal mask or developing and washing out in photosensitive mask the Mask surface and then followed by the etching the exposed elements of the copper surface.
- the wells in the mask layer also only created area variable are, i. they can only be in number and arrangement the composition of the surface elements vary. The means that a different depth variation of the individual wells is not possible because all wells etched the same depth over the etching process.
- a "halftone image" (half tone image) must be generated in which the desired gray value is converted into a bit structure for the respective screen or printing mesh ( Bitmap) is implemented.
- RIP raster image processor
- the gravure based on the laser mask coating has certain disadvantages, because in the Mask can, as mentioned, only surface variable written and the third dimension, i. the cup depth, is the same for all well sizes and is characterized by the same Process, namely the etching formed. It has It has been shown that this method also leads to quality limitations at the printed reproduction of the picture leads. In addition, the repeatability of the etching is subject Limitations and it shows up when playing back Halftone gradients that in particular in the field of large Brightness (light) does not achieve a smooth tonal curve becomes.
- the object is achieved according to the invention in that the engraving process is carried out such that the wells from a predetermined number of engraved pixels be formed.
- the method according to the invention are the Tiefticiannäpfchen, unlike the method according to the Laser mask coating, as with engraving with the help of the conventional engraving technique for the Gravure, directly into the engraving surface of the Engraved printing cylinder.
- the method can be achieved by means of existing engraving systems for engraving printing cylinders for gravure printing in principle, so that the method also in already in use, existing engraving can be used.
- the engraving depth of the pixels differently formable that is, the pixel volumes and thus the Well volumes can be selected by different Engraving depth of the individual pixels can be varied.
- the engraving depth of the pixels may preferably at same extent of the surface element of the pixel be formed differently, that is, it is according to the invention the engraving depth of the pixel no longer correlates with the two-dimensional extent of the surface element of the pixel. It follows that the data that in the inventive method drive used engraving tool, not, as in the Laser mask exposure, coded in a so-called "bitmap" are. Rather, it is possible according to the invention that everyone single pixel deeply engraved in a predefined way should be able to.
- the engraving depth may preferably be in stepped depth steps but it is in principle also possible that the engraving depth by analog control set or controlled the engraving tool becomes.
- the depth steps are optionally 1 resolved to 8 bits, preferably 8 bits, so that maximum 255 different depths can be engraved. It is but also possible, the depth resolution only with 2 bit too encode, so that, for example, four depth positions possible are like full depth, medium depth, small depth and no engraving. But there are also other depth patterns than 2 bit possible.
- the engraving width per grid mesh can also be built up step by step. So it may be advantageous that a cup consists of at least one pixel and maximum 255 pixels, that is, the pattern of Pixels that make up the cup can go from 1 to 255 Increase pixels.
- the two-dimensional surface element of the pixel is preferably variably adjustable with respect to its areal extent, the areal extent advantageously being in the range of 10 to 20 ⁇ m .
- the size of the areal extent of the surface element of the pixel that is, the size of the area of the pixel on the surface of the printing form to be engraved, can be used depending on the engraving process Engraving agent can be selected.
- the invention advantageously makes it possible that the engraving process is carried out such that Railnäpfchen formed of a predetermined number of pixels can be, so that in particular contours of text and images in the subsequent printing extremely sharply rendered can be.
- the training of Sectionnäpfchen was previously only in the method of the method the laser mask exposure in limited form possible or in offset printing with all the usual ones These known printing method prevailing disadvantages.
- any suitable engraving means or engraving tools to use.
- Fig. 1 In which the Principle of the formation of wells in a printing cylinder by a conventional art known in the art Engraving process is shown. From the whole Pressure cylinder is an example of a small area selected, consisting of 4 different sized wells consists.
- the actual engraving agent is here usually a shaped as Engierstichel accordingly Diamond.
- This known engraving method for The printing cylinder used in gravure is becoming common designated with electromagnetic engraving and is the Professional world long been known, so that on the description the control of the engraving agent to form the Cups not to be further discussed here needs.
- a special feature of the electromagnetic engraving produced wells is that due the solid geometry of the engraving stylus the depth and the diameter, i. the extent 14, in Fig. 1 by way of example based on the diagonal of a cup 10, to the engraving depth 12 in a certain fixed ratio stand.
- the scored by electromagnetic engraving Printing form is called semi-autotypic gravure, since the wells 10 in their extension 14 and in their engraving depth 12 are variable, but always in one fixed relationship to each other, only by different trained engraving tools, for example. By a different cut of a diamond stylus, can be changed during the actual engraving process but always firm.
- Another special feature of electromechanical engraving is also that due to the used in gravure printing low-viscosity ink full tone contours (text and Line content) in basically the same print grid Wells as the images (image content) are rendered, in the one chosen for the respective color Printed screen. As a result, there is a certain degree of gravure Blur for contours (text and line contents).
- this Method or this method is also the experts It has been known for a long time, cf. Figs. 2a and 2b, in contrast to electromechanical engraving, Particles 15 form what is both for the area the contour 18 as well as the picture applies.
- the laser mask exposure and subsequent etching be sharper contours 18 compared to the with the electromechanical engraving of 10 wells achieved Contours reached 18, not with the relatively strong in Appearance passing "sawtooth effect", for example by means of Diamond stylus engraved contours 18 (text and Line contents) are afflicted.
- Fig. 3 shows an example by means of the method of Laser mask exposure trained, made of a plurality formed by pixels surface variable halftone dot 20, which in its entirety said well 10 form. Since the laser light writing beam 19 at this known method can only say "yes” or “no", that is, remove the mask previously applied to the printing cylinder or can leave, so can do so trained wells can only be created variable in area.
- the engraving depth 12 is common to all wells 10 Equal to the etching process.
- a trained in a grid 17 according to the invention Cup 10 is shown schematically in FIG.
- the process is carried out in such a way that means the engraving process, the wells 10 by a suitable Engraving agent that is an electro-mechanical engraver but also laser light can be from a predetermined Number of pixels 11 were formed, i.e., the actual well 10 becomes active during the engraving process from a predetermined number of pixels 11, also called pixels formed.
- a suitable Engraving agent that is an electro-mechanical engraver but also laser light can be from a predetermined Number of pixels 11 were formed, i.e., the actual well 10 becomes active during the engraving process from a predetermined number of pixels 11, also called pixels formed.
- the process can be conducted so that each well 10, depending on the preset tonal values of the printable Image, from an arbitrary number of pixels 11 can be composed, wherein a cup 10 at least consists of a pixel 11 and maximum the number of pixels 11 due to the program-related Raster ist be desired, for example, 255 pixels.
- gravure mesh becomes a grid in 255 steps corresponding to 1 byte resolved, so that the formation of the wells 10 by 255 different Pattern of pixels 11 a meaningful number or relationship represents.
- the engraving depths are 12 the centrally arranged pixels 11, the darkest appear, at the deepest, the central area surrounding pixels 11 are on the other hand less deep formed and the outer, surrounding pixels are formed in an even smaller depth, here, for example. formed in the form of a predetermined fixed depth grid, eg represented by 2 bits. So could, for example. the full depth, the middle depth, the shallow depth and no engraving follow the bit code 11, 10, 01 and 00. It should be noted that also preferably finer depth levels than with 2 bit realized feasible can be, for example an 8 bit deep depth graduation.
- this high number represents more than 1000 adjustable Values of the pixels 11 per well 10 one Overdetermination, but in the printing practice by is canceled, because of engraving and printing technology View certain pixels 11 of the pixel pattern be withdrawn in their engraving depth 12, so a smooth expression of gradients is possible.
- Figs. 5a and 5b are formed such that there by the method according to the invention also sectionnäpfchen 15 from a predetermined number of pixels 11 can be formed. This will achieve that as well Contours 18 can be played as sharp as it was previously only possible with offset printing, but with all the advantages of gravure over the Offset printing.
- the extent 14 of the surface element 13 of the pixel 11, cf. also to Fig. 1, the training of Well 10 by conventional electromechanical Engraving can also be variably adjustable and can be made dependent on the actual engraver
- laser light 16 can be.
- the engraver in shape is used by laser light 16
- the through a grid of the engraving grid represented printing density, where the grid
- the grid For example, has a resolution of 70 lines / cm, from a Halftone image with a higher resolution, e.g. with 120 Lines / cm, interpolated, so that an additional Information exists, namely how the density within a Gravurrastermasche is approximately distributed.
- This information can be used for targeted relocation of the entire Pattern of the pixels 11, that is composed of these Well 10, can be used.
