Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a composite material, a method for managing the thermal effects generated in a physico-chemical process using said material, as well as applications of the material and of the method.
  • the processes implemented are based on a reversible physico-chemical process exothermic in one direction, endothermic in the other direction. In this type of process, it is generally desirable to remove the heat given off during the exothermic stage and it is necessary to supply the heat necessary for the endothermic stage in order to obtain good performance.
  • the storage of a gas in an adsorbent solid is widely studied and used.
  • the adsorption of the gas in the solid is exothermic and the heat released has a detrimental effect on the performance of the adsorption.
  • an inverse problem arises during the desorption of the gas during the regeneration stage. Indeed, this desorption induces an endothermic effect all the more marked as the regeneration step is carried out at high gas flow rates. This endothermic effect strongly inhibits the desorption of the gas and the kinetics of the process is then limited by the necessary heat input.
  • the solutions usually envisaged consist in the case of adsorption, for example in eliminating the heat formed outside, which requires the use of a material having a very high thermal conductivity as an adsorbent solid.
  • This high thermal conductivity can be obtained by adding expanded natural graphite (GNE) to activated carbon [S. Biloé, et al., Carbon, 2001, 39 (11), 1653-1662)] or by using a GNE-activated carbon composite prepared by activation in situ (WO01 / 55054).
  • GNE expanded natural graphite
  • the thermal conductivity of this composite corresponds to that of GNE which then only serves as a container and thermal conductor.
  • This composite material does not contain activated carbon and therefore has no ability to 1 adsorption. There is also an exudation of paraffin when using this type of composite.
  • a method and a system are known for accumulating heat or cold in a composite material comprising an expanded and compressed graphite matrix and a phase change material which may in particular be a congruent melting salt.
  • the composite material is obtained by vacuum impregnation of the matrix with a solution of the salt or by immersion of the matrix in a solution of the salt.
  • the objective of this type of material is only to ensure energy storage in the form of latent heat, and not to manage the thermicity of a physicochemical process associating a gas and a solid. active.
  • Composite materials are used in the textile field consisting of fibers of materials conventionally used for textile fibers and of micronodules of a phase change material.
  • the micronodules can be grafted onto the fibers or distributed in the mass of the material constituting the fibers.
  • the problem which the invention proposes to solve is to remedy the inhibitory effect generated by the heat released during the exothermic stage and by the heat consumed during the endothermic stage in the processes implementing a physico- reversible chemical which is exothermic in one direction and endothermic in the other direction, and which has its seat in a solid material.
  • the aim is to manage the thermal effects in situ during the physico-chemical process, so as to ensure isothermal operation.

Description

[G. Nelson, International journal of Pharmaceutics. 2002, 242, pp. 55-62) .
[Wilson S.J., et al., Cyclic steady-state axial température profiles in multilayer, bulk gas PSA - The case of oxygen VSA, Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research , Volume 41 , Issue 11 , 29 May 2002, Pages 2753-2765.
