Definitions
- the invention relates to a joint seal and / or surface seal as a barrier against microorganisms, especially molds, as well as against odors, dust particles and other air pollution with the joints or the openings of a surface covering layer, wherein the joints and / or the openings of a surface under the covering layer completely or partially filled with an adsorbent, which is suitable for binding liquid and / or gaseous substances and / or solid particles.
- the invention relates to a skirting board for breathable cover of floor joints and openings in wall and floor surfaces and a method for the prevention and control of mold infestation in soil and expansion joints.
- air pollutants is understood by the skilled person to include, in addition to odors and dust particles, air pollutants, the term air pollutant encompassing a wide variety of particulate solid and / or liquid substances (aerosols) which are so light that they float in the air.
- gaseous air pollutants up to a size of 5 microns, can be very harmful to health, because they are able to penetrate deep into the lungs. Larger particles that only penetrate into the respiratory tract, on the other hand, can be triggers of allergies.
- Air pollutants must also include the gaseous metabolic products produced by mold fungi, known as microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOC). These are common the cause of odor disorders. Molds and their components and their metabolic products, such as mold toxins, can cause allergies and infections in people with a weakened immune system. Even the components of killed molds have toxic potential and can lead to allergic reactions.
- MVOC microbial volatile organic compounds
- Molds are composed of a root-like network, the mycelium, the fruiting body and the spores that serve as a propagating unit.
- the size of the spores can range from 2 to 25 microns.
- heat-stable mycotoxins derived from a variety of mold fungi such as the Penicillium, Aspergillus and Fussarium molds, can be toxic. Toxic effect, especially on the skin and mucous membranes also have the decay products from the cell wall of mold fungi, which are referred to as glucans. Particularly toxic and also carcinogenic are aflatoxins.
- Humidity damage for example, due to poor insulation in the outer wall area or by condensation and water damage indoors, z. B. caused by leaking pipes underfloor heating.
- metal foils in particular wallpaper-like aluminum foils
- these metal foils are not breathable so that moisture is trapped without combating their cause. It should be remembered in particular that due to the susceptibility to wear and slope of the metal foils for cracking can not be assumed by a permanent gas tightness.
- adsorption materials such as activated carbon and mineral silicates are used, in particular in critical areas such as operating theaters and high-tech cleanrooms (chip production).
- filter devices of an adsorption of granular activated carbon and / or mineral silicate high-performance suspended solids filter (HEPA filters) are connected downstream.
- HEPA filters high-performance suspended solids filter
- the object of the invention is the construction of a seal of floor and wall joints and smaller openings in floor and wall surfaces such as cracks.
- the areal sealing in the floor area relates in particular to floating floorings under which mold has formed, the screed panel not only opening towards the room in the area of the wall-side floor joints, but may also have smaller and larger cracks in the area of the entire floor area. These cracks can cause the odors and mold fungus components to escape.
- the purpose of the seal is to permit the complete or at least partial elimination of mold spores, odors and airborne contaminants while acting as a breathable barrier against the release of residual, non-eliminated airborne contaminants, particularly in buildings that have a fungus that can be treated without the need for total remediation.
- the joint seal according to the invention consists of a layer of the adsorbent or the adsorbent mixture and the covering layer.
- the joints are completely or partially filled with the adsorbent.
- the MVOCs present in the joints as well as the mold constituents are bound in the porous cavities and on the surface of the adsorbent.
- the gap is finally covered to the outside by a fleece-like fabric or by a perforated foil.
- the cover should be breathable, ie permeable to gaseous compounds of the air and to water vapor, so that moisture can not form again in the joints.
- the cover should have dust-binding properties, so that the non-bound by the adsorbent pollutant particles can not leave the joint area.
- the thermal conductivity of the covering layer should be as low as possible in order to prevent the release of heat to the outer wall.
- the essence of the invention is the combination of an adsorbent that binds liquid and / or solid particles and air pollutants of various kinds, with a tissue that allows the breathable seal the adsorbent laden with air pollutants.
- the covering layer should have properties which are intended to prevent the adsorbent from escaping and also from the air pollutants not yet bound by the adsorbent.
- the audiometer according to the invention provides and the method according to the invention represents an effective and advantageously very cost-effective solution for the treatment of the mold fungus problem and other moisture problems.
- Activated carbon is understood to mean carbon structures made of the smallest graphitic crystals and amorphous carbon with a porous structure and internal surfaces that are many times the outer surface area. These properties also include soot.
- Aluminum oxides also have a high specific surface area and a correspondingly good adsorption capacity.
- silicate minerals in particular silica gel and zeolites are known for their excellent adsorption properties.
- Silical gels also called silica gels, are colloidal silicic acid of solid consistency with a loose to dense pore structure and high adsorption capacity for gases and vapors and liquids.
- Zeolites are crystalline, hydrous silicates of alkali or. Alkaline earth aluminum silicates. Zeolites give off the water during heating steadily and without changing the crystal structure and therefore have in the dried state an enormous capacity for water and other substances.
- the crystal lattices of the zeolites are built up from tetrhexene silicon tetraoxide units, which form space-like, uniform channel-like cavities via oxygen bridges.
- a fine dust filter is provided as the covering layer.
- a high performance particulate arresting (HEPA) filter is characterized by the fact that particles whose size does not fall below 0.3 microns are retained with an efficiency of up to 99.5%.
- the filter effect of such filters is not only caused by the pore size, but also by the electrostatic charge of the filter. Due to the electrostatic charge, the effective pore size is additionally reduced compared to the actual pore size.
- the covering layer is attached on the back and bottom edge of a skirting board.
- the covering layer is attached only on the back or only on the lower edge of the skirting board.
- the final layer e.g. can be in a Hepafilter already connected during manufacture with the skirting board.
- the invention also includes a method for binding microorganisms, in particular molds in boundary and expansion joints.
- the joints are depending on the strength of the Schimmerpilzbefalls completely or partially filled with an adsorbent before the covering layer is applied to seal the joint.
- the adsorbent after an incubation the duration of which may be variable and may be dependent on the type of adsorbent to remove wholly or partially by the application of a vacuum.
- the joint areas affected by the mold are dried.
- drying may be done as a step in combating the cause of the mold fungus treatment in any case, and especially prior to incorporation of the adsorbent. The drying takes place by heating the rooms, whereby the air emerging from the joints is sucked in by a dust filter equipped with high-performance dust filters to avoid the spread of the molds. After drying, the joint areas are again completely or partially filled with adsorbent.
- the removal and refilling of the adsorbent can take place several times in succession.
- the not filled with adsorbent bottom joint can be treated with 70-80% ethyl alcohol or any other disinfectant.
- the openings of the joints are covered with a covering layer which has breathable and / or dust-binding properties
- the invention relates to the area of the outer wall of a house.
- the up to the outside with insufficient external insulation ceiling plate undesirably acts as a thermal bridge and promotes the formation of moisture in the interior of the room.
- the bottom joint formed on the inside between the wall and the ceiling slab with the floor covering lying down is filled with an adsorbent for binding liquid, gaseous and even smaller solid particles.
- adsorbent for binding liquid, gaseous and even smaller solid particles.
- the opening of the floor joint is sealed by a breathable film-like filter-like fabric (covering layer) so that no air pollutants or particles can escape from the floor joint.
- a skirting board is applied, the rear side of which is structured and allows the exchange of air.
- the attachment of an improved outer wall insulation covering the ceiling slab would be indicated in the example.
- a skirting board has a cover layer applied to the back and bottom which is breathable as a nonwoven fabric or film and / or dust-binding properties is trained.
- the air exchange on the voltage applied to the baseboard side of the fabric is ensured by grooved recesses in the baseboard.
- the air exchange can be ensured only by a not entirely smooth, but ribbed structure of the skirting on the back and bottom.
- the edges connected to the skirting border the longitudinal sides of the covering layer and surround the fabric or film. It is conceivable that the voltage applied to the bottom joint edge of the bottom bar is rounded or flattened and in the resulting space additional adsorbent is introduced.
