Definitions
- the invention relates to the use of a tool made of a hard metal alloy for forming articles of steel at forming temperatures of more than 600 ° C.
- Tools for forming materials at elevated temperatures are subject to high mechanical, thermal and tribological stresses.
- the forming temperatures used depend on the type of material to be formed and the forming process and are for example about 600 ° C for brass, about 800 ° C for steel and about 1300 ° C for glass.
- Important forming processes at elevated temperatures include, for example, compression and tension forming, extrusion, rolling and drawing.
- When forming at elevated temperatures in addition to the general wear of the forming tool is often also a fracture of the tool caused by hot cracking, temperature shock and Adphasesverschl devis.
- EP 0 062 311 B1 describes a hard metal alloy for parts for tungsten carbide hot forming with a binding phase of chromium, aluminum, nickel and cobalt and optionally small amounts of molybdenum, boron and zirconium, the binder phase containing fine particles of the precipitated Ni 3 Al ⁇ phase.
- this hard metal alloy still does not have a sufficiently good wear resistance at elevated temperature and, because of the ⁇ phase in the binder, is more complicated to produce than conventional hard metal alloys without such a phase.
- US-A-3,746,519 discloses a tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide alloy containing 10 to 50% by weight of steel binder containing substantially 4 to 30% by weight of nickel, optionally 1 to 25% by weight of cobalt and 1 to 15% by weight of molybdenum and titanium optionally contains 1 - 10 wt.% Chromium.
- the alloy should be particularly suitable for tools for hot forming and especially for cold-stamping dies for copper-nicked alloys.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a tool made of a hard metal alloy for the forming of steel objects at forming temperatures above 600 ° C available, the alloy used compared to previously known alloys has a significantly better wear resistance and is easy to produce.
- this is achieved by the use of a hard metal alloy with 75 to 95 wt.% Hard material phase of essentially tungsten carbide 5 to 25 wt.% Binder phase, which consists of 60 to 80 wt.% Of iron.
- the alloy has the wear resistance required for the special use at forming temperatures above 600 ° C. It has been found that the binding phase primarily depends on the high iron content.
- the other elements which are present in the binder phase are no longer so essential, but there are preferably nickel with low levels of cobalt in question.
- the binder may contain small amounts of chromium, aluminum, molybdenum, niobium, zirconium and / or boron. A complete replacement of nickel by cobalt is conceivable.
- the best properties of the hard metal alloy according to the invention are achieved with tungsten carbide as the hard material phase.
- the use of small amounts of other hard materials, such as titanium carbide, tantalum carbide or niobium carbide is also possible, since the outstanding high temperature properties of the hard metal alloy according to the invention are not significantly deteriorated.
- the production of the hard metal alloy according to the invention is carried out by conventional powder metallurgical production process by pressing the powdery starting materials and subsequent sintering in a temperature range of 1350 to 1450 ° C.
- Particularly advantageous alloys have been found to be those having a hard material phase in the range from 80 to 90% by weight and having a binder phase in the range from 10 to 20% by weight.
- a particularly advantageous hard metal alloy for the use according to the invention is present when the binder phase consists of 70% by weight of iron, 20% by weight of nickel and 10% by weight of cobalt.
- a hard metal alloy according to the invention consisting of 88 wt.% Tungsten carbide with a mean grain size of 3 microns and 12 wt.% Binder with 70 wt.% Iron, 10 wt.% Cobalt and 20 wt.% Nickel were plate-shaped samples 1 with a trapezoidal cross-section of 28 x 6 mm and a prism length of 28 mm.
- the powdery starting materials were mixed and pressed the powder mixture on a die press at a pressure of 180 MPa to the plate-shaped blanks. Then the pressed blanks were brought to final gauge by milling. Subsequently, the samples were sintered at 1400 ° C for 60 minutes. This was followed by gas treatment with hydrogen at 900 ° C for 60 minutes.
- Table 1 summarizes the evaluations with regard to hardness, toughness and abrasion of the steel bolt of the different samples.
