Definitions
- the invention relates to an ink cartridge according to the preamble of claim 1 for one Inkjet printer.
- An ink cartridge of the type mentioned is known from EP 0 635 373.
- the recorded in the channel Use in the longitudinal direction of the channel to the ink reservoir is slidable.
- a fiber bundle held in a sleeve is used, which is in the axial Has direction extending capillaries and that is axially displaceable in the channel through the sleeve is stored.
- the sliding insert is inserted when the ink cartridge is inserted in the Ink jet printer by a shaped element provided at the connection of the ink jet printer shifted in the channel towards the porous ink storage, whereby this in Contact area is compressed.
- the use of the porous ink storage deformed should cause a reduction in the average pore size in the area of deformation be, by which an additional capillary action in the ink reservoir in the direction of Outlet opening should arise. If the ink cartridge is removed from the inkjet printer, the use is due to the elastic preload that the ink reservoir experiences has to be moved back to its original position, reducing the average pore size return to their initial value and the ink supply is thus interrupted should.
- the aim is to achieve a valve effect that prevents ink from leaking out of the Connection port prevented when an ink cartridge is not installed in the inkjet printer.
- a disadvantage of this known ink cartridge is, in particular, that it usually consists of ink storage made of a porous material, in addition to its function as a storage should also serve as a biasing element for use to bring it back to its original position push back when the ink cartridge is removed from the inkjet printer becomes. It has been shown that with certain materials, such as melamine foams, which are often used for ink storage, the elasticity of the material it is small that on the one hand the restoring force generated by the ink reservoir is insufficient Use when the ink cartridge is removed from the inkjet printer back to its original position move back. On the other hand, the mechanical action of the insert causes on such a sponge in the contact area breaks in the capillary structure. The resulting sponge particles can clog the nozzles of the ink print head and thus lead to print image errors. In addition, the sponge loses in the contact area its elasticity and is permanently deformed.
- An ink cartridge is known from US 2001/0026306 A1, in which one with the ink chamber in the related channel, an insert is recorded which corresponds to the in the ink chamber accommodated in the ink chamber is in contact for dispensing ink.
- US 6 000 789 A discloses an ink cartridge in which the one housed in the ink chamber Ink storage can be connected to the printer via a second chamber, wherein the ink from the ink reservoir into the second chamber through one with the ink reservoir in use is promoted by capillary gradient.
- the invention is based on the object of specifying a simply constructed ink cartridge, in which even after repeated insertion and removal from an inkjet printer Adequate ink supply is reliably guaranteed.
- the invention solves the problem by an ink cartridge with the features of claim 1.
- An essential idea of the invention is that of a movable Use teaches you to move the insert and thus compress it to prevent porous ink storage.
- the channel is in the area of its inlet opening designed so that the porous insert is held securely in the channel is to achieve a defined ink transition from the ink reservoir to the porous insert guarantee.
- a limit must be provided for this, which is the inlet opening of the channel partially closed and on which the porous insert with its the ink storage face facing.
- the porous is Insert made of elastic and ink-resistant material in the axial direction of the channel the limit is pre-tensioned and held in such a way that the one not abutting the limit Portion of the face of the porous insert past the boundary with the porous ink reservoir is in contact. Since the channel dimensions are specified, can by suitable dimensioning of the porous insert in the unmounted state and applying one to the porous insert toward the porous ink reservoir effective biasing force when mounting the ink cartridge the contact surface between the insert and the capillary ink reservoir that there is sufficient and uninterrupted flow of ink from the capillary ink reservoir to the printhead is possible.
- the prestressing force acting on the insert is selected so that that the insert, with its portions of its Front side is under tension on the ink reservoir. Also in the case of manufacturing-related Fluctuations in the channel, insert and / or sponge geometry can be a more secure and ensures sufficient ink flow from the capillary ink storage to the ink printhead become. If necessary, the preload of the insert can also be so high that the insert slightly deforms and penetrates the ink reservoir.
- the porous insert is particularly preferred because of the prestress acting on it is deformed that its average pore size distribution is less than or equal to the average pore size distribution of the ink reservoir. Especially when the average pore size distribution of the insert is smaller than that of the ink reservoir, there is a capillary gradient between the insert and the ink storage realized so that the ink from the larger Pores in the ink reservoir migrate to the smaller pores in use due to the capillary action. In this way there is a continuous flow of ink from the ink reservoir through the insert to the inkjet printer.
- a medium Has a pore size distribution which is larger than the average pore size distribution of the Ink reservoir.
- the average pore size of the insert in the assembled state is here adjustable via the biasing force acting on it and is preferably so chosen so that the desired capillary gradient forms.
- the ink cartridge into the Preload inkjet printer, for example by appropriately designed, on the ink supply element of the inkjet printer provided form elements which on the porous So that it only works when it is installed in the inkjet printer is biased, with its mean pore size distribution being prior to installation in the Inkjet printers can be larger than the average pore size distribution of the porous Ink storage, is reduced by the bias so that the average pore size distribution of use at least the same, but preferably smaller than the average pore size distribution of the ink reservoir.
- the average pore size distribution varies in use that the insert acts as a valve due to its material properties, since when not installed Ink cartridge the average pore size distribution, which is larger than that of the ink reservoir, prevents ink flow, while the mean pore size distribution when installed Ink cartridge is reduced by the preload so that the previously mentioned Capillary action occurs.
- an elastic insert made of a porous material is produced, whose average pore size distribution is at least the average pore size distribution of the ink reservoir corresponds, preferably less than the average pore size distribution of the ink reservoir, so that even with a comparatively low preload of use, which only slightly compress the average pore size distribution leads, the desired, defined capillary action occurs. This is particularly so then an advantage if the capillary effect between the insert is as precise as possible and to set the ink storage.
- the porous insert is made of elastic and ink-resistant material additionally pre-stressed in the channel using a press fit hold in order to avoid a shift of the insert.
- the ink reservoir is also made of a porous material is not biased in the contact area by the use and a predetermined defined Showing shape regarding the use, it is of particular advantage if the limitation with its upper side facing the ink chamber flush with that of the ink chamber delimiting inner wall of the housing of the ink cartridge.
- the ink reservoir is also flush with the boundary of the boundary with the inner wall the inlet opening of the channel evenly against the inner wall of the ink chamber and offers the application a flat, even contact surface in the area of the Inlet opening.
- the limitation in a particularly preferred embodiment is the ink cartridge a rib extending across the inlet opening of the channel is provided, which preferably is arranged centrally to the inlet opening of the channel.
- the rib is able to keep the insert in a defined position in the channel, while ensuring at the same time is that the largest possible contact area of the insert to the ink storage also low bias is given.
- the limitation in the form of a plurality of protruding into the inlet opening Form limiting lugs, which are preferably evenly over the inner circumference the entrance opening are distributed.
- This type of limitation is also a big one Contact area of the insert with the ink reservoir, with comparatively low preload, possible.
- this type of limitation is particularly suitable if use with the aid of a shaped element provided in the inkjet printer, as described, is additionally biased against the boundary to the contact surface Increase ink storage.
- the boundary can preferably also consist of two cruciformly arranged in one plane Ribs spanning the inlet opening, which are preferably at right angles to one another run.
- the limitation can be made up of several, parallel to and at a distance from one another, ribs arranged in one plane and running transversely across the inlet opening be educated.
- the boundary which is formed from one or more ribs it is particularly advantageous if the rib or ribs has a polygonal cross section, preferably a rectangular, square or diamond-shaped cross section, has or have, wherein in each case one of the longitudinal edges of the respective rib the insert is arranged closest to, or penetrates into this.
- This rib cross section has in particular the advantage that the mold is usually removed from plastics by injection molding manufactured components of the ink cartridge is simplified.
- the described invention with its embodiments and developments is the same can also be used with ink cartridges, their channel or connecting piece, in the form of a cup is designed with a closed bottom part and an outlet opening in the wall part.
- the stake is supported on the bottom part of the cup-shaped channel.
- This bottom part can either be already molded, so that the insert from the inside of the cartridge is assembled. But it is also possible to use through the initially open bottom of the to assemble cup-shaped channel and then this assembly opening ink-tight to close with a suitable element.
- a suitable closure element is, for example an elastic stopper made of ink-resistant material.
- a flat one is also suitable Wall part made of the same material as the ink tank itself, which seals the channel wall, is connected by means of a welding or adhesive process, for example.
- the channel extends in the longitudinal direction through the connecting piece extends, i.e. is open at its two opposite ends, one being open End facing the porous ink reservoir, the entrance opening and the other open end forms the outlet opening.
- the ink cartridge has Area of the outlet opening of its connecting piece to be connected to the inkjet printer a support for use, the use between the support and the boundary of the channel provided in the inlet opening is clamped.
- the design of the support can possibly be due to its elasticity past the support of the outlet opening into the channel.
- the insert is supported across its cross-section, especially in the sections is in which it does not abut the boundary in the inlet opening, is in the Embodiment described above proposed the support at the outlet opening and to arrange the boundary at the inlet opening offset in such a way that the support is aimed in these non-contiguous sections in the direction of the Prestressed inlet opening. This ensures that these sections on the ink storage come to the system are kept under tension. At the same time the demolding of the ink cartridge, which is usually injection molded from plastic, is facilitated.
- connection piece is stiffened in the area of the outlet opening, so that a undesired deformation of the connection piece when inserting it into the inkjet printer is avoided.
- each web has a recess with a straight edge on, the edges of the two recesses parallel to the transverse to the inlet opening extending rib are formed.
- support lugs it is possible to support the support from several, preferably evenly over the Distributed inner circumference, protruding into the outlet opening to form support lugs, the Number of supporting lugs corresponds to the number of limiting lugs in the entry opening and the support lugs to the limiting lugs in the inlet opening in the circumferential direction of the Channel are seen offset.
- This combination of support lugs and boundary lugs is of particular advantage that on the one hand it facilitates the insertion of the insert into the channel, on the other hand ensures a secure hold of the insert in the sewer.
- the boundary is formed from two ribs spanning the inlet opening in a cross shape
- the support formed from two webs is proposed in a further development of the support formed from two webs, to provide each bar with a recess in its straight edge.
- the the two webs formed on the inner wall of the channel are separated by two spaces.
- the recesses and spaces are preferably congruent with the Ribs arranged in the inlet opening. This is a simple demolding of the injection-molded ink cartridge possible.
- the limitation is made up of several parallel ones that span the inlet opening Ribs formed, is proposed in a particularly preferred development, at the outlet opening several support lugs protruding into the channel as support to provide, wherein the support lugs protrude into the region of the channel in the longitudinal direction of the Seen channel is not covered by the ribs spanning the inlet opening.
