A combination of a damping device (70) with hinges (10) for connecting two furniture components pivotally relative to one another, particularly door leaves (12) or flaps fastened to the carcass of an item of furniture, in which the hinge has a fastening portion (24), which is in the form of a hinge cup, which is fitted recessed into a recess in the movable furniture component, in the intended installation position on the item of furniture, and which is pivotally coupled to a carcass fastening portion constructed as a support arm (18) by means of a linkage mechanism (20; 22), wherein the damping device has a damper housing (32) provided on the door leaf fastening portion (24), in the interior of which there is a fluid damping medium and a resistance element, which is movable relative to the damping medium and is coupled to an actuating element, which extends out of the housing and is operatively connected to the second furniture portion during at least a portion of the pivotal movement of the two furniture portions (12; 14) relative to one another and transmits the movement imparted to it by the second furniture portion (12; 14) to the resistance element, characterised in that the damper housing (32) is arranged, in the intended installation position, on the rear side of the movable furniture portion (door leaf 12) and that the actuating element extending out of the damper housing (32; 82) contacts the upper web surface of the support arm (18) during a final portion of the closing movement of the door leaf (12).
  2. A combination as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the damper housing has an elongate, cylindrical interior filled with the fluid damping medium, longitudinally movably disposed in which is a piston (36) constituting the resistance element, which is engaged by a piston rod (38) constituting the actuating element, the end of which remote from the piston extends out of the damper housing (32).
  3. A combination as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that the damper housing (32) is an integral component of the door leaf fastening member (24).
  4. A combination as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the damper housing (82) is a separate component arranged on the rear surface of the movable furniture portion (door leaf 12) directly following the door leaf connecting portion (24) in the intended installation position, that the actuating element has a slider (86) longitudinally movably guided in a recess in the damper housing and that provided in the damper housing (82) there are two cavities, which are spaced from one another and are filled with fluid damping medium, with respective resistance elements, which are rotatable in the respective cavity and are rotationally fixedly connected to respective toothed wheels (94), which are rotatably mounted in the damper housing and are in mesh with respective arrays of teeth (92) provided on opposite longitudinal edges of the slider (86).
