Definitions
- the invention relates to a printed and shaped document, called "insert" and a process for manufacturing such documents.
- inserts In the printing industry, especially dedicated to advertising, it is known to produce documents called “inserts” or “leaflets” intended for be either inserted in magazines or deposited at inside food packaging, especially for promotional operations. Such inserts can also be used in the field industrial as technical information carriers intended to be attached to an appliance or a product.
- Known inserts can be made with light weight paper to be compatible with continuous production processes involving, in particular, rotary printing machines. These inserts light weight can have one or more pages. If they consist of a single sheet, they sometimes have an immediately insufficient rigidity noticeable by the reader of a magazine or the recipient a promotion. They are, moreover, relatively delicate to handle - automatically for insertion into a magazine or in product packaging food.
- the invention more particularly intends to remedy by proposing a new insert having a rigidity equivalent to the inserts produced in heavyweight papers, for example greater than 200 g / m 2 , and which can be produced on a continuous printing and shaping chain, while it is effectively protected against humidity and / or chemical attack.
- the invention relates to a document printed and shaped, called “insert” or “leaflet”, comprising a single sheet, characterized in that this leaflet is printed continuously on a first face which is coated with a protective film, while its second side, opposite the first, is coated at least partially of permanent adhesive, the sheet being folded along a fold line, so that its second side is folded back on itself and that its first face, printed and protected, constitutes the two sides opposites of the document.
- the insert or leaflet presents the same properties as if it were made from a heavy weight paper, i.e. increased rigidity facilitating its grip, a "cartose” aspect and a improved aesthetics due to lamination, so that it is particularly suitable for making inserts advertising for luxury goods, such as perfumes and cosmetics.
- the insert can be made at from relatively light weight paper because its rigidity is increased by the superposition of the two parts of the sheet, so that it is compatible with continuous production, hence a manufacturing cost optimized and a significant shortening of the making the document available to its end user, delay being a particularly important aspect when is to launch a promotional campaign.
- the second side is completely folded back on itself, no part of it being accessible.
- the second face is partially folded back on itself, a section of the sheet, the second side is exposed, extending a main part of the sheet, the second side of which is glued on itself. This component allows stapling of the insert in a magazine.
- the protective film is made of a compatible material with its use in the food industry, especially polypropylene, which allows to consider insertion of the document in product packaging.
- food in compliance with the standards in force and preserving the information printed on the insert the ambient humidity which can result from the nature of food products but also condensation resulting from their storage mode.
- steps b) c) can be simultaneous or almost simultaneous or step b) can be before or after step c).
- the strip when from step c), is coated over substantially the half its width.
- step e when of an additional step or during step e), we cut the strip in the vicinity of the fold line and along a cutting line generally parallel to the direction of advance, in order to separate the fold line from the finalized documents. This allows to evacuate part of the insert in which the lamination could be imperfectly plated on the printed strip.
- the cutting lines advantageously have a geometry defined according to one or more patterns printed on the first side mentioned above.
- the production of shaped and film-coated inserts is carried out in the installation shown in FIG. 1 from a strip 1 of paper of grammage between 100 and 200 g / m 2 , this strip being originally wound on a coil 2.
- the strip 1 passes through a rotary printing machine 10 comprising roller groups 11 in number corresponding to the number of colors to be applied.
- the machine 10 is used to affix M units only on the top face 1a of the belt 1.
- multiple prints of machines can be arranged one behind the other in the path of the strip 1, each machine is dedicated to a print color.
- the strip 1 then progresses, in the direction of the arrows F 1 , to a film-coating and sizing machine 20 in which a polypropylene film 3, previously coated with a suitable adhesive, is unwound from a reel 21 and applied to the face 1 a of the strip 1 by means of two pressure rollers 22 and 23.
- a film-coating and sizing machine 20 in which a polypropylene film 3, previously coated with a suitable adhesive, is unwound from a reel 21 and applied to the face 1 a of the strip 1 by means of two pressure rollers 22 and 23.
- the film 3 may not be previously coated with adhesive and can be fixed on strip 1 thanks to glue applied in machine 20, everything particularly a hot melt type glue which has the advantage of having a rapid setting without risk of bubble formation.
- the strip 1 passes between two rollers 24 and 25 of which one, namely roller 25, consists of a cylinder "Anilox" bathing in a bath B of permanent adhesive contained in a tank 26.
- the width l 26 of the tank 26 or that of the roller 25 is such that the layer 27 of adhesive deposited on the underside 1 b of the strip 1 has a width l 27 substantially equal to half the width l 1 of the strip 1. In other words, the adhesive layer 27 is affixed over substantially half the width of the strip 1.
- the steps of applying the film 3 and of gluing the face 1 b which here are almost simultaneous, can be shifted in time, the application of the film possibly being earlier. or after gluing, these two operations being carried out in separate parts of the installation.
- the film-coated and glued strip 1 is conveyed, in the direction of the arrows F 1 , to a machine 30 where the face 1 b is folded back on itself along a line of folding 1 c located substantially in the middle of the width of the strip 1, so that the glued part and the non-glued part of the face 1 b are firmly pressed against each other.
- the two visible sides of the strip 1 are formed by two parts of its face 1 a which is printed and coated with the film 3, that is to say film-coated.
- the strip 1 is then conveyed to a cutting machine 40 where the strip 1 is cut at least in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the arrows F 1 , so that inserts I are formed by cutting before being poured into a tray 41.
- the cutting of the inserts I can take place by any known technique, in particular by means of cutting rollers.
- a first insert I is formed and we note 101 and 102 its longitudinal edges, the edge 101 corresponding to the fold line 1 c along which the fold is folded. strip 1 to form the insert I.
- the transverse edges of the insert I are noted 103 and 104.
- a pattern M in the form of a cookie is affixed on the two faces of the insert I which can be used as an advertising object .
- the thicknesses represented are not necessarily in proportion to the thicknesses of a real insert; for example, the adhesive layer 27 is in reality much thinner than strip 1.
- the film 3 is stretched around the strip 1 which is folded back on itself.
- the cutting operations according to the transverse direction i.e. shaping of edges 103 and 104
- the longitudinal cutting operation i.e. along edge 101, and possibly along edge 102
- the longitudinal cutting operation can be performed in a second machine.
- the strip 1 has been folded over a part of itself so that a part 1 b 'of the surface 1 b remains accessible at a flap 1 d of simple thickness, the rest of the insert I being double thickness and corresponding to the part of the surface 1 b which is folded down and glued on itself.
- the edges 101, 103 and 104 of this insert could be cut as explained for the second embodiment.
- the shutter 1 d makes it possible to envisage the insertion of the insert I into a magazine, a part of the shutter 1 d being superimposed on the pinout line AA 'of the magazine, which makes it possible to immobilize the insert I with respect to to the other sheets using one or more staples A.
- the M motif affixed to the printed side of the sheet is not limited to the example shown and may have any shape or color, depending on the intended use of the insert or leaflet.
