Definitions
- the invention relates to a moisture transporting cloth, especially for use in bedding.
- a moisture transporting cloth comprising a knitting, said knitting having yarn comprising a spun of cut synthetic filaments, said cut filaments comprising at least one longitudinal groove.
- This at least one longitudinal groove, which is present on each filament provides micro channels in the yarn and thus in the knitting, which enables transpiration moisture to be transported from one side of the knitting to the other side. Because of the small dimensions of the groove, even a capillary effect could be present, which sucks the transportation moisture into the knitting.
- the content of cut filaments in said yarn is at least 50%. It has shown that the higher the content of cut filaments in the yarn, the better the moisture transporting properties are.
- the cut filaments have a cross section with an undulating periphery.
- the undulating periphery provides the grooves.
- the cut filaments could also have a substantially kidney shaped cross section.
- the cut synthetic filaments have an average length in the range of 20mm - 200mm.
- a yarn can be spun, which yarn has a lot of ends on the filaments on the outer surface of the yarn. Through these ends of the filaments, the moisture can be transported. Thus with a large number of ends, the transportation of the moisture is improved in respect to a yarn with less filament ends.
- a preferred average length of the cut filaments is in the range of 35mm - 40mm.
- the weight is in the range of 100gr/m 2 - 500gr/m 2 .
- the invention relates also to a quilt and a mattress cover each comprising a top cloth and a bottom cloth, at least peripherally arranged to eachother and a filling arranged between the top cloth and the bottom cloth, wherein at least one of the top cloth and the bottom cloth comprises a moisture transporting cloth according to the invention.
- a quilt according to the invention has the advantage, that the transpiration moisture is transported through the at least one moisture transporting cloth and contained in the filling. The moisture can then dampen out from the filling of the quilt.
- the cloth is knitted. By knitting the cloth a rather permeable cloth is manufactured in contrast to for example a woven fabric, which is due to the manufacturing process rather dense. Due to the open structure of a knitted cloth, the ventilation of the cloth is improved.
- An example of the manufacturing of a cloth according to the invention is as follows.
- Polyester micro filaments are selected based on their cross section.
- a filament with a cross section according to any of the figures 1-6 could for example be selected. These filaments are chopped into pieces of an average length in the range of 35mm - 40mm.
- polyester multi-filaments are selected based on their properties, such as durability, cleanability. Also flame retardant, bacteriostatic, antistatic properties could be selected.
- These multi-filaments are spun together with the chopped micro filaments to a yarn. The multi-filament is added to the chopped filaments to improve for example the procesability on a knitting machine. The spun yarn is then used to knit a cloth of a desired weight and with a desired permeability thickness and elasticity as a result of the knitting density.
- the knitting method could be a warp knitting method or a weft knitting method.
- the cloth could get a treatment to obtain properties such as flame retardant properties or antistatic properties.
- the cloth could also be printed.
- micro filaments with a suitable cross-section are chopped into pieces and spun to a yarn consisting essentially of those pieces of micro filaments.
- This spun yarn is then combined with other synthetic yarns and knitted to a cloth.
- the other yarns could provide properties such as durability, cleanability, flame retardant, and so on.
- the contents of the yarn consisting essentially of chopped pieces could amount up to 50% of the total knitting.
- a cloth produced as described above could be further processed into the cover cloth of a quilt, a sheet, fitted sheet, mattress cover or pillow-case.
