Increasing the UV light power up to 600 watts per linear inch can be done to achieve a 97% or better cure.
  • fabric thickness and opacity are not too high, curing light can be projected from both sides of the fabric to enhance the curing of the UV ink. Using power much higher can result in the burning or even combustion of the fabric, so UV power has an upper practical limit.
  • the heat curing or drying station 26 may be fixed to the frame 11 downstream of the UV light curing station or may be located off-line. With 97% UV cure, the ink will be sufficiently colorfast so as to permit the drying station to be off-line. When on-line, the drying station should extend sufficiently along the length of fabric to adequately cure the printed ink at the rate that the fabric is printed. When located off-line, the heat curing station can operate at a different rate than the rate of printing. Heat cure at the oven or drying station 26 maintains the ink on the fabric at about 300°F for up to three minutes. Heating of from 30 seconds to three minutes is the anticipated advantageous range. Heating by forced hot air is preferred, although other heat sources, such as infrared heaters, can be used as long as they adequately penetrate the fabric to the depth of the ink.
  • a quilting station may be located on-line with the printing station or off-line, and either before or after the printing station. Locating a quilting station downstream of the oven 26 is advantageous in the case of quilted comforters and mattress covers and where quilting is to be applied and registered with printing on the fabric.

Claims (34)

  1. Procédé d'impression sur un substrat avec une pluralité de têtes d'impression à jet d'encre sur chacune desquelles est montée au moins une buse (41), le procédé comprenant le déplacement d'un chariot de têtes d'impression (129), sur lequel est montée la pluralité de têtes d'impression à jet d'encre (30, 130), parallèlement à un plan sur lequel est supporté le substrat (15) ayant une surface (16) destinée à être imprimée par la projection d'encre depuis la buse (41), et la projection d'encre depuis les buses (41) sur la surface (16) du substrat (15), dans lequel le substrat (15) est déplacé longitudinalement par rapport aux têtes d'impression (130) et les têtes d'impression (130) sur le chariot (120) sont déplacées transversalement au substrat (15), caractérisé en ce que le procédé comprend en outre le réglage automatique de la distance des têtes d'impression par rapport au plan en réponse à la détection de la position d'une partie de la surface (16) avec un capteur (138a, 138b) porté sur le chariot (129) afin de positionner les têtes d'impression à une distance prédéterminée de la surface (16) du substrat (15) où de l'encre doit être projetée depuis les buses.
  2. Procédé selon la revendication 1, dans lequel le substrat comporte un panneau rigide (15) et les buses de jet d'encre (41) sont dirigées vers une surface (16) du panneau (15), le réglage comporte le réglage automatique de la distance des têtes d'impression (30, 130) par rapport au panneau (15) afin de maintenir la distance prédéterminée entre les têtes d'impression (30, 130) et la surface du panneau (15) à une position sur laquelle de l'encre doit être projetée depuis les buses (41), et tout en déplaçant le chariot de têtes d'impression (129), la projection d'encre depuis les buses (41) à la distance prédéterminée et sur la surface (16) du panneau rigide (15).
  3. Procédé selon la revendication 2, dans lequel la surface (16) du panneau (15) sur lequel l'encre est projetée varie sur tout le panneau en terme de distance depuis le chariot (129), et le réglage comporte la variation de la position des têtes d'impression (30, 130) par rapport au panneau (15) durant le déplacement des têtes d'impression (30, 130) afin de maintenir l'espacement prédéterminé entre les têtes d'impression (30, 130) et l'emplacement sur la surface auquel l'encre est projetée.
  4. Procédé selon la revendication 1, dans lequel le substrat comporte un panneau rigide (15) et les buses de jet d'encre (41) sont dirigées vers une surface du panneau, la surface (16) du panneau (15) sur laquelle l'encre est projetée varie sur tout le panneau en terme de distance par rapport au chariot (129), la détection comporte la détection du contour de la surface du panneau, et le réglage comporte le déplacement du chariot (129) parallèlement au panneau jusqu'à des emplacements déterminés en réponse au contour détecté et la projection de l'encre sur la surface du panneau (15) aux emplacements.
  5. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel la détection de la position est effectuée durant le déplacement du chariot de têtes d'impression (129), et le réglage comporte la variation de la position des têtes d'impression (30, 130) par rapport au plan durant le déplacement du chariot de têtes d'impression (129) de façon à maintenir la distance prédéterminée sur tout le substrat (15) en réponse à la détection.
  6. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel la détection comporte la détection de la distance entre le chariot de têtes d'impression (129) et les emplacements sur la surface auxquels de l'encre doit être projetée, et le réglage comporte la variation de la position des têtes d'impression (30, 130) par rapport au chariot de têtes d'impression (129) en réponse à la distance détectée.
  7. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel l'encre est une encre à séchage aux UV, et le procédé comporte en outre l'étape de séchage au moins partiel de l'encre projetée sur la surface (16) en exposant l'encre projetée à une lumière ultraviolette.
  8. Procédé selon la revendication 7, dans lequel l'exposition de l'encre comporte le réglage de la distance de la lumière UV depuis une source de lumière jusqu'audit plan lors du déplacement du chariot (129) parallèlement audit plan.
  9. Procédé selon la revendication 7, dans lequel l'exposition de l'encre comporte le réglage du foyer de la lumière UV sur la surface qui porte l'encre projetée lors du déplacement du chariot (129) parallèlement audit plan.
  10. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 7 à 9, dans lequel le procédé comprend en outre le chauffage de la surface (16) comportant l'encre au moins partiellement séchée afin de réduire le contenu de monomères non polymérisés de l'encre sur le substrat.
  11. Procédé selon la revendication 10, dans lequel le chauffage comporte le passage d'un air chauffé sur la surface (16) du substrat (15) comportant l'encre au moins partiellement séchée aux UV afin d'éliminer du substrat (15) des composants non séchés de l'encre.
  12. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, comprenant en outre les étapes consistant désormais à combiner une ou plusieurs couches secondaires de matière avec le substrat (16), et à piquer un motif piqué sur les couches combinées de matière et de substrat en coordination avec le motif imprimé sur le substrat (16).
  13. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 11, comprenant en outre les étapes consistant à combiner une ou plusieurs couches secondaires de matière avec le substrat (16), à piquer les couches combinées de matière et de substrat, puis à aligner la surface sur laquelle l'encre doit être projetée avec des contours du substrat piqué et à exécuter l'étape d'impression en imprimant sur le substrat en alignement avec le motif piqué.
  14. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 11, comprenant en outre les étapes consistant à combiner une ou plusieurs couches secondaires de matière avec le substrat (16), à piquer les couches combinées de matière et de substrat, puis à détecter les contours du substrat piqué et à exécuter l'étape d'impression en imprimant sur le substrat aux points déterminés en réponse à la détection des contours.
  15. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel les distances depuis chacune des têtes d'impression (130) jusqu'au plan sont réglées individuellement afin de positionner chacune des têtes (130) à une distance prédéterminée respective de la surface (16) du substrat (15) sur laquelle de l'encre doit être projetée depuis les têtes (130), et le procédé comprend en outre la projection d'encre depuis les têtes (130), à leurs distances réglées par rapport audit plan, aux distances prédéterminées respectives sur la surface (16) du substrat (15), puis le déplacement supplémentaire du chariot de têtes d'impression (129) parallèlement au plan tandis que le substrat (15) est supporté dans celui-ci, puis le réglage à nouveau individuellement des distances de chacune des têtes d'impression (130) par rapport au plan afin de repositionner chacune des têtes (130) pour maintenir la distance prédéterminée respective par rapport à la surface (16) qui varie relativement au plan, et la projection supplémentaire d'encre depuis les têtes (130), à leurs distances réglées à nouveau par rapport audit plan, aux distances prédéterminées respectives sur la surface (16) d'un substrat (15).
  16. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 14, dans lequel le procédé comprend en outre le réglage automatique et individuel des positions de chacune des têtes d'impression (130) vers le substrat (15) et à l'écart de celui-ci, lors du déplacement du chariot (129) parallèlement au substrat (15), afin de maintenir des distances prédéterminées respectives entre les têtes d'impression et la surface du substrat sur laquelle de l'encre est projetée depuis les têtes d'impression (130).
  17. Procédé selon la revendication 15 ou la revendication 16, comprenant en outre le réglage individuel de la position de chaque tête d'impression (130) et l'application d'une couleur d'encre différente avec des têtes d'impression différentes.
  18. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 15 à 17, comprenant en outre la détection de la distance entre les têtes d'impression (130) et le substrat (15).
  19. Procédé selon la revendication 18, comprenant en outre la transmission des informations de distance à un contrôleur (35) et le réglage à nouveau de la position des têtes d'impression (130) en fonction des informations de distance détectées.
  20. Procédé selon la revendication 19, comprenant en outre la transmission des informations depuis au moins l'un d'au moins deux capteurs (138a, 138b) montés sur le chariot.
  21. Appareil pour imprimer sur une surface d'un substrat tridimensionnel comprenant un cadre (11, 111) sur lequel est monté un support de substrat (20, 120) définissant un plan de support de substrat et une piste de têtes d'impression (28, 128) s'étendant parallèlement au plan, une pluralité de têtes d'impression à jet d'encre (30, 130) sur chacune desquelles est montée au moins une buse (41) supportées en mouvement sur la piste (28, 128) par l'intermédiaire d'un chariot de têtes d'impression (129) avec les buses orientées vers la surface (16) d'un substrat (15) supporté par le support de substrat (20, 120), le support de substrat (20, 120) étant actionnable pour déplacer le substrat (15) longitudinalement par rapport aux têtes d'impression (130) et les têtes d'impression (130) sur le chariot (129) pouvant être déplacées transversalement au substrat (15), et un système de commande (35) actionnable pour déplacer et commander les têtes d'impression (30, 130) afin d'imprimer sur le substrat (15) en projetant de l'encre depuis les buses (41) sur la surface (16) d'un substrat (15), caractérisé en ce que l'appareil comprend en outre un capteur (40a, 40b, 138a, 138b) porté sur le chariot (129) et actionnable pour assurer une mesure de distance d'une partie de la surface (16), et en ce que les têtes d'impression (30, 130) sont déplaçables automatiquement perpendiculairement au plan en réponse au capteur (40a, 40b, 138a, 138b) jusqu'à une distance prédéterminée de la surface (16) du substrat (15).
  22. Appareil selon la revendication 21, comprenant en outre une tête de séchage par lumière UV (23, 123a, 23b) positionnée de façon à exposer à la lumière UV l'encre projetée sur la surface (16) du substrat par la tête d'impression (30, 130).
  23. Appareil selon la revendication 23, dans lequel la tête de séchage par lumière UV (23, 123a, 123b) est déplaçable par rapport au plan, et le système de commande (35) est actionnable pour déplacer la tête de séchage (23, 123a, 123b) afin de maintenir le foyer de la lumière UV provenant de la tête de séchage (23, 123a, 123b) sur l'encre projetée sur la surface (16) du substrat (15).
  24. Appareil selon la revendication 22 ou la revendication 23, comprenant en outre : une station de chauffage (26, 126) positionnée de façon à chauffer l'encre exposée à la lumière UV sur le substrat.
  25. Appareil selon la revendication 24, dans lequel la station de chauffage (26, 126) comporte une soufflante orientée pour diriger de l'air chauffé sur un substrat sur le support.
  26. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 25, comprenant en outre une station de piquage positionnée pour piquer le substrat (15) afin de donner un contour à la surface du substrat (15).
  27. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 26, dans lequel le capteur (40b, 138a, 138b) est monté dans le chariot (129).
  28. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 27, dans lequel le capteur comporte deux capteurs (138a, 138b) montés dans le chariot (129).
  29. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 28, dans lequel le capteur est un dispositif de mesure de distance sans contact (40b, 138a, 138b) qui comporte une source de lumière et un détecteur de lumière montés sur la piste.
  30. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 29, dans lequel le capteur (138a, 138b) est actionnable pour déterminer un emplacement sur la surface (16) du substrat (15) et les têtes d'impression (130) sont déplaçables individuellement et sélectivement perpendiculairement au plan en réponse au capteur (138a, 138b) jusqu'à des distances prédéterminées de l'emplacement déterminé sur la surface (16) du substrat (15), et le système de commande (35) étant actionnable pour déplacer et commander individuellement chacune des têtes d'impression (130) afin d'imprimer sur le substrat (15) en projetant de l'encre depuis les têtes d'impression (130) aux distances prédéterminées respectives et sur le substrat.
  31. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 29, dans lequel les têtes d'impression (130) sont déplaçables individuellement et espacées dans le sens du déplacement du chariot (129) de façon à passer séquentiellement par-dessus les mêmes zones du substrat (15) et à imprimer chacune un ensemble de couleurs sur celles-ci, les têtes d'impression (130) sont déplaçables individuellement et sélectivement vers le plan et à l'écart de celui-ci, et le système de commande (35) est actionnable pour commander les têtes d'impression (130) en réponse au capteur (138a, 138b) afin de suivre séquentiellement le contour de la surface de substrat lorsque le chariot se déplace en travers du substrat pour maintenir une distance constante de parcours de l'encre depuis chaque tête d'impression par rapport à la surface du substrat.
  32. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 29, dans lequel les têtes d'impression (130) sont déplaçables individuellement et agencées côte à côte sur le chariot (129) perpendiculairement au sens de déplacement du chariot (129) de façon à ce qu'elles puissent chacune maintenir un espacement commandé par rapport au substrat où le contour du substrat (15) varie dans le sens perpendiculaire au déplacement du chariot (129).
  33. Appareil selon la revendication 31 ou la revendication 32, dans lequel les têtes d'impression (130) sont des têtes d'impression bidirectionnelles qui impriment tout en se déplaçant transversalement à un substrat (15) qui peut être déplacé longitudinalement par rapport aux têtes d'impression (130), le capteur comporte deux capteurs (138a, 138b) montés sur le chariot (129) transversalement aux têtes d'impression (130), un de chaque côté des têtes d'impression.
  34. Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 21 à 33, dans lequel sur la piste (128) est en outre montée une pluralité de servomoteurs (137a à d), répondant chacun à un signal de sortie du capteur (138a, 138b) afin de régler la position des têtes d'impression (130) par rapport au substrat (15) pour commander la distance à laquelle de l'encre est projetée durant l'impression.
