  • the present invention generally pertains to a printing system, in particular to an apparatus for deformation detection in a printing system, and a method for calibrating such an apparatus.
  • One or more deformations present within a sheet of a medium to be printed can cause serious reliability problems in a printing system, such as an inkjet printing system, where there is only a small gap between a sheet transport mechanism and an image forming device or printing head of the printing system. If the sheet to be printed touches the image forming device or the printing head as a result of such a deformation, this can lead to print quality degradation and/or to a sheet jam in the machine. To achieve high print quality in an inkjet printing system, the distance between the printing heads and sheet to be printed should be kept small. Because of this small distance (print gap) the print heads are easily touched by the sheets as they pass. Accordingly, even small deformations like dog ears, wrinkles, tears etc. can cause a so-called "head touch", which can degrade print quality, cause nozzle failure, or even sheet jams.

From there, a value for the angle ⁇ can be determined.

  • the detailed embodiments are aimed at a configuration wherein the sensor assembly is positioned to receive light from the sheet only when a deformation comes into contact with the emission beam. For sheets with deformations below a predetermined threshold height no light is reflected from the sheet to the sensor assembly. As explained, this reduces signal noise due to the vibrations in the printing system.
  • the beam aligning concept of the present invention can also be applied to a proofing device wherein the sensor assembly is positioned on a laterally opposite side of the transport path with respect to the beam emitter. In case of deformations below the threshold height, the substantially entire emitter beam reaches the sensor assembly.
  • Deformations are detected by a drop in intensity as a deformation enters the emission beam and reflects light away from the sensor assembly.
  • the reliability of the proofing device is improved by ensuring that the emission beam travels parallel to the plane of the sheet (and/or the transport path), which can be achieved by means the method and apparatus according to the present invention.
  • any reference to a structural element is intended to encompass any computer executable instructions that instruct a computer to generate such a structural element by three-dimensional printing techniques or similar computer controlled manufacturing techniques. Furthermore, such a reference to a structural element encompasses a computer readable medium carrying such computer executable instructions.

Claims (14)

  1. Appareil (20) pour la détection de déformation de feuilles (S) qui sont transportées à travers un système d'impression de feuille (1), comprenant :
    - un trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) ;
    - un dispositif de détection de qualité de feuille (21) positionné le long du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) et configuré pour la détection de feuilles (S) sur le trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP), le dispositif de détection de qualité de feuille (21) comprenant un émetteur (23) pour l'émission d'un faisceau d'émission (B) sur le trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) et un ensemble capteur (25) pour la détection d'au moins une partie du faisceau d'émission (B) ;
    - une poutre de support (25B) s'étendant latéralement sur une largeur du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP), dans lequel l'émetteur (23) est monté sur la poutre de support (25B) ;
    - des moyens d'ajustement (24, 24') pour l'ajustement et le placement d'un angle (α) entre la poutre de support (25B) et un plan (32) du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP).
  2. Appareil (20) selon la revendication 1, dans lequel l'émetteur (23) est rigidement attaché à la poutre de support (25B).
  3. Appareil (20) selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel les moyens d'ajustement (24, 24') comprennent un actionneur (24 24') mobile perpendiculairement au plan (32) du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) pour l'ajustement de l'angle (α).
  4. Appareil (20) selon la revendication 3, dans lequel des moyens d'ajustement (24, 24') comprennent une paire d'actionneurs (24, 24') positionnés au niveau d'extrémités opposées de la poutre de support (25B) l'une par rapport à l'autre.
  5. Appareil (20) selon la revendication 4, dans lequel la paire d'actionneurs (24, 24') est mobile indépendamment l'un par rapport à l'autre perpendiculairement au plan (32) du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) pour :
    - l'inclinaison de la poutre de support (25B) par rapport au plan (32) du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) ; et
    - le placement d'une hauteur du faisceau d'émission (B) par rapport au plan (32) du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) pour déterminer un seuil de rejet de feuille.
  6. Appareil (20) selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, comprenant en outre un ensemble capteur (25) positionné par rapport à l'émetteur (23) de sorte que :
    le faisceau d'émission (B) soit empêché d'atteindre l'ensemble capteur (25) lorsqu'une feuille (S) sur le trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) est adaptée pour l'impression ; et
    au moins une partie du faisceau d'émission (B) est réfléchie par une feuille (S) sur le trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) à l'ensemble capteur (25) lorsqu'une déformation (D) dans la feuille (S) entre dans le faisceau d'émission (B).
  7. Appareil (20) selon la revendication 6, dans lequel l'ensemble capteur (25) s'étend latéralement sur une largeur du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP).
  8. Appareil (20) selon la revendication 6 ou 7, dans lequel l'ensemble capteur (25) est monté sur la poutre de support (25B).
  9. Appareil (20) selon la revendication 8, l'ensemble capteur (25) comprend une pluralité d'unités de capteur (25A) positionnées le long d'une longueur de la poutre de support (25B).
  10. Appareil (20) selon l'une quelconque des revendications 6-9, comprenant en outre :
    un processeur (29) pour déterminer l'adaptabilité de la feuille (S) pour l'impression à partir de données de capteur générées par l'ensemble capteur (25) et représentatives d'une déformation (D) dans la feuille (S) ;
    dans lequel le dispositif de commande (28) est configuré pour la commande de la suite de la progression de la feuille (S) le long du trajet de transport (PP) en fonction de l'adaptabilité de feuille déterminée pour l'impression ;
    un dispositif de retrait (26) pour le retrait de la feuille (S) du trajet de transport (PP) du système d'impression (1), dans lequel le dispositif de commande (28) est configuré pour commander le dispositif de retrait (26) pour retirer la feuille (S) du trajet de transport (PP) si le processeur (29) détermine que la feuille (S) est inadaptée pour l'impression.
  11. Système d'impression (1) comprenant l'appareil (20) selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes.
  12. Procédé d'étalonnage d'un appareil (20) pour la détection de déformations sur des feuilles qui sont transportées à travers un système d'impression (1), l'appareil (20) comprenant un émetteur (23) pour l'émission d'un faisceau d'émission (B) sur un trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP), le procédé comprenant les étapes de :
    - positionnement d'une structure d'étalonnage (40) avec une hauteur prédéfinie sur un premier côté latéral du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) ;
    - déplacement de l'émetteur (23) perpendiculairement au trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) avec la structure d'étalonnage (40) sur son premier côté ;
    - détermination d'un premier paramètre de hauteur de l'émetteur (23) lors de la détection d'une variation d'une intensité du faisceau d'émission détecté (B) ;
    - positionnement de la structure d'étalonnage (40) avec une hauteur prédéfinie sur un second côté latéral du trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) ;
    - déplacement de l'émetteur (23) perpendiculairement au trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP) avec la structure d'étalonnage (40) sur son second côté ;
    - détermination d'un second paramètre de hauteur de l'émetteur (23) lors de la détection d'une variation d'une intensité du faisceau d'émission détecté (B) ;
    - comparaison des premier et second paramètres de hauteur pour déterminer un angle (α) pour l'alignement du faisceau d'émission (B) par rapport au trajet de transport de détection de feuille (PP).
  13. Procédé selon la revendication 12, comprenant en outre l'inclinaison de l'émetteur (23) de sorte que lors de l'utilisation le faisceau d'émission (B) s'étende parallèlement au trajet de transport de détection de feuille.
  14. Procédé selon les revendications 12 et 13, comprenant en outre l'étape de détection d'une déformation (D) dans une feuille (S) passant dans le faisceau d'émission (B) et qualifiant la feuille (S) d'inadaptée pour l'impression.
