Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of sheet materials based on fibers and more particularly relates to a usable glass veil as a substrate for the production of coated, coated or impregnated with bitumen, in particular for cover and / or sealing.
- bituminous membranes that are applied to the surface to be cover or seal. These membranes generally consist of a sheet substrate coated or impregnated with a bituminous matrix.
- Sheet materials can be of various kinds and are usually obtained from organic or inorganic fibers, preferably in the form of nonwovens.
- glass sails have a large interest because they guarantee the dimensional stability over time of the bituminous membrane.
- the glass mats can be obtained by any technique known per se, in particular wet-known technique, described in particular in the reference book The Manufacturing Technology of Continuous Glass Fiber, KL LOEWENSTEIN Ed. ELSEVIER, 2nd edition, 1983, pp. 315-317.
- This technique similar to papermaking techniques, consists in preparing an aqueous suspension of chopped glass fibers, depositing this suspension in a film on a filter mat subjected to suction to remove a portion of the water from the deposited film, apply a binder composition to the wet film, dry the web and crosslink the binder in an oven, and then condition the web in the desired manner.
- the final product is in the form of a fairly thin sheet (thickness of the order of 0.2 to 0.8 mm) generally packaged in rolls.
- the binder is often an aqueous composition based on urea-formaldehyde resin, this resin having a satisfactory temperature resistance to temperatures of subsequent implementation of the impregnation bitumen.
- glass sails have the disadvantage of relatively low tear strength, which penalizes comfort of use and particularly obliges the user to take precautions when manipulation to form the membrane or put it on the roof.
- the object of the invention is to propose a glass-based material whose resistance to tearing is improved, without its manufacture being more complicated than that of a traditional veil.
- EP-A-0 763 505 discloses a fiberglass mat for the manufacture of asphalt roofing shingles, whose strength is improved thanks to a urea-formaldehyde binding agent modified with a self-crosslinking vinyl additive.
- a minor proportion of fibers may not consist of glass, and be especially chosen from organic fibers such as Nylon®, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene. This document does not give precise indication on these organic fibers, and contains no examples particular illustrating this possibility.
- the present invention is based on the discovery that many organic fibers do not lend themselves well to the manufacture of a veil and even have a very negative effect on the properties of the veil in the application bituminous blankets, but a very precise selection of materials Synthetics overcomes this disadvantage.
- the subject of the invention is a fiber-based veil which can be used for the formation of bituminous membranes, comprising glass and organic fibers bound by a binder, characterized in that the fibers have a shrinkage rate at 130 ° C less than or equal to 5%, in a steam or humid atmosphere for 30 minutes.
- glass veil includes, according to the invention, materials well known to those skilled in the art of fiber-based products glass. These are thin-film materials, essentially of structure isotropic, that is to say that there is no preferential orientation of the fibers.
- a veil can be described by means of the "isotropic ratio", tensile strength of the web in the machine direction / tensile strength of the web in the cross direction, which is generally of the order 1, in particular of the order of 1 to 1.5, sometimes up to 2.
- essentially random orientation of the fibers is usually obtained at from the presentation of glass fibers to cut yarns for manufacturing of the veil, for example according to the wet technique mentioned above. high.
- the organic fibers used in the manufacture of have a high melting point to prevent their degradation in all thermal stages of the manufacture of the veil, especially drying and crosslinking in an oven, and implementation of the veil, in particular in contact bituminous binder.
- synthetic organic matter is chosen to have a melting point greater than about 220 ° C.
- the fibers are selected according to their thermal shrinkage rate: this quantity corresponds to the dimensional variation, in this case a shortening, of the fiber after it has been exposed to a given temperature for a defined time .
- this quantity corresponds to the dimensional variation, in this case a shortening, of the fiber after it has been exposed to a given temperature for a defined time .
- the decisive removal rates according to the invention are expressed for a temperature of 130 ° C produced in a vapor atmosphere during a duration of 30 min.
- the shrinkage is chosen to be less than or equal to 5%, preferably 4%, in particular 3%, for example of the order of 2 to 3%.
- this quality of fiber can be obtained from semicrystalline polymer materials, in particular of which the spinning process allows a drawing which increases the degree of crystallinity.
- other manufacturing conditions such as the presence of nucleating agents or the temperature factor can also lead to the organization of basic macromolecules for the initial amorphous structure polymer begins to take a crystalline structure and become semi-crystalline.
- Fibers meeting the requirements of the invention can be found among the polyester fibers, in particular polyalkylene terephthalate, particularly polyethylene terephthalate.
- Organic fibers suitable for the manufacturing processes are preferred wet nonwovens, which contain a sizing allowing the dispersion in the water of the individual filaments.
- Organic fibers can have variable dimensions, with a average diameter of the order of 7 to 25 microns, for a title of the order of 0.5 to 2 dtex.
- the fibers are cut to a length of the order from one to several tens of millimeters, in particular from 6 to 30 mm.
- organic fibers are clearly perceptible as early as 5% by weight per compared to the total weight of fibers.
- the proportion of organic fibers is advantageously of the order of 5 to 30%, especially 20 to 30%, in particular about 25% by weight based on the total weight of fibers.
- the glass fibers used according to the invention are of a type conventional for the realization of sail, in the form of threads cut, to a length of the order of ten millimeters, in particular of 6 to 30 mm, preferably about 10 to 20 mm, for example 12 to 18 mm. he is understood that a certain proportion of yarns (for example 5 to 10%) may be cut to a length up to 100 mm. Moreover, we can introduce in the web of the continuous yarn, especially glass yarn, as reinforcement in the longitudinal direction.
- the binder used to constitute the veil is advantageously based on urea-formaldehyde resin, preferably modified with vinyl additives and / or acrylic, as known from US-4,681,802, EP-A-0 763 505.
- the level of binder is generally from 15 to 30% by weight of dry matter per relation to the veil.
- the veil is manufactured with a standard grammage for glass sails, of the order of 30 to 150 g / m 2 , in particular of 50 to 120 g / m 2 .
- the amount of material in the web according to the invention for a given grammage is a little higher than that contained in a glass veil, which results in a thickness relatively higher and / or lower porosity.
- the porosity is for example of the order of 1500 to 1900 l / m 2 s for a sail of 50 g / m 2 .
- the web according to the invention being particularly suitable for applications sealing and / or covering, the invention also relates to a bituminous membrane comprising a coated, coated or impregnated substrate of a bituminous matrix, characterized in that the substrate is a veil such as previously described.
- bituminous matrix may be chosen from the matrices known in self: natural bitumen, modified or not, or synthetic binder, such as "binder in particular to give the membrane a color decorative.
- the fiber suspension which also contains the usual additives, know anti-foam, dispersant, viscosity agent, is implemented in standard conditions on a sail making machine comprising (i) a hydroformer on which is formed a partially wet film dewatered, (ii) a spray binder application station, coating [device of 'cascade' or 'curtain coater'] or passage in a bath of a aqueous composition based on urea-formaldehyde resin plasticized with acetate and acrylic, which deposits on the veil a quantity of binder of 19% by weight of dry matter in relation to the weight of the sail, (iii) a drying oven and Cross-linking at several temperature zones from 135 to 215 ° C where the veil circulates with an average residence time of the order of 30 seconds, preferably slightly less than 30 seconds.
- the veil is no problem manufacturing, and is obtained with a weight of 50 g / m 2 , a thickness of 0.3 mm and a porosity of 1580 l / m 2 .s.
- a measurement of the tensile strength at 250 ° C is also carried out under fixed load equal to 10% of the measured rupture value previously, and we measure the time needed to break of the test piece.
- Example 1 has mechanical characteristics and dimensional stability very satisfactory. It was implemented on a line of continuous manufacture of bituminous membrane by impregnation with hot bitumen at about 200 ° C, with a good aptitude for impregnation, even giving the membrane a very aesthetic appearance satisfactory.
- a veil based exclusively on glass yarn is manufactured as in Example 1.
- the veil has a basis weight of 50 g / m 2 , a binder content of 24% by weight of dry matter relative to the weight sail, a thickness of 0.3 mm and a porosity of 2000 l / m 2 .s. It is subjected to the same mechanical tests as the veil of Example 1.
- Example 1 is reproduced with an organic fiber which does not meet the criteria of the invention. It is polyester fiber marketed by TERGAL FIBERS under the reference 1.6dtex T110 mid-cut mat, also dispersible in water, characterized by a title of 1.6 dtex, a cutting length of 12 mm, a rate shrinkage at 130 ° C in a 7% steam atmosphere.
- polyester fiber marketed by TERGAL FIBERS under the reference 1.6dtex T110 mid-cut mat, also dispersible in water, characterized by a title of 1.6 dtex, a cutting length of 12 mm, a rate shrinkage at 130 ° C in a 7% steam atmosphere.
- a web of 50 g / m 2 was made with a binder content of 24% by weight, a thickness of 0.3 to 0.4 mm and a porosity of 1700 l / m 2 .s.
- Manufacturing is a problem at the end of the day because formation of folds exiting the oven, which can be attributed to a phenomenon thermal shrinkage of the organic fiber.
- the veil has a low mechanical strength, deteriorated compared to the conventional glass veil. We notes in particular that the anisotropy of the veil is greatly increased. In in addition, the mechanical strength at 250 ° C is non-existent.
